Renovation of former Pocomoke Fire House-

Pocomoke Area Chamber of Commerce

MERIT AWARD, 401 Fifth Street, Pocomoke City, MD

Congratulations to Broadband Holdings, Davis Strategic, and Kirk and Bret Davis on the successful renovation and recent Merit Award by the Pocomoke Area Chamber of Commerce on what was the old Pocomoke City Fire Station.

Built in 1939, the property was purchased from Pocomoke City in 2022 and underwent an extensive renovation to include 9 apartments and two commercial spaces. As of this date, all 9 apartments have been leased and one of the two commercial spaces is occupied by Simple Fiber.

Our hats are off to Kirk and Bret Davis for this wonderful preservation of one of our town's most admired buildings and for their vision and steadfastness into making our town a better place to live for all.

Do you know of an eligible property in our town that is deserving of this recognition? Please email your nominations to pocomokechamber@gmail.com for consideration.

Artist's Chincoteague mural; upcoming project in Pocomoke-

Downtown Chincoteague mural taking shape

BY JANET BERNOSKY Eastern Shore Post

Renowned mural artist Michael Rosato creates stories with his paint brushes. His latest project, currently underway on Chincoteague Island, captures a moment of time in the island’s history more than a century ago, when it was a bustling fishing village.

One of his upcoming projects at Pocomoke City’s Delmarva Discovery Museum will include a 90-foot-long painted background diorama to an exhibit depicting daily life in a village of the local Pocomoke Indian Nation from the pre-Colonial era. The various roles women played in the tribe will feature prominently.

Where's Alex?

Meteorologist Alex Seymore has moved on from forecasting the  weather at local NBC affiliate WRDE.  Here is his Facebook post:

After nearly 7 years with Draper Media on WBOC and WRDE, I have decided to leave television to ensure that I have more time to spend with family and friends. While I will no longer be on tv, I do still plan on providing weather updates on Facebook. I recently took a position with Special Olympics Delaware where I will be able to tell the stories of the incredible athletes, coaches, and volunteers through digital media channels. While I will certainly miss my time working in tv, I look forward to this new career path.

I can remember when Citizens National Bank on Market Street paid 3% interest on my passbook savings account. I would walk in every six months or so, and Gloria Richardson would take my passbook to a counter in the back, do some magic with an electric calculator, bring my passbook back and use a rubber stamp to mark the date and then add in the magic interest numbers.

You can't get 3% anymore and no bank has used passbook savings account in probably 40 years or more.
