Hospital Reduces Support Staff At Riverside Shore Memorial
Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSMH) today announced that it has reduced its staff by a total of 25 employees including individuals in both management and staff positions. Several recently-vacated positions have gone unfilled which lessened the severity of the necessary cuts. Clinical staff were not directly affected, as changes were focused in areas away from the bedside or treatment area.
This action is the result of continued severe financial pressures facing acute care hospitals, particularly hospitals in rural areas. For the last 18 months, the widespread contraction of the nations economy has negatively impacted hospitals: reimbursements to hospitals for Medicare- and Medicaid-insured patients have declined; people from all walks of life are deferring or delaying medical treatment; and those people who must seek immediate treatment are often less likely to have insurance.
"This is not a decision that anyone in our organization made lightly," stated Joseph P. Zager, Administrator at RSMH. "But labor costs are the largest expense for hospitals, so we are constantly evaluating and modifying our staffing needs in relation to current and forecasted utilization. Unfortunately, this is another example of the economy's continued decline impacting the good, hardworking people and families of the Eastern Shore."
Zager continued, "It is important that our patients understand that this adjustment will not compromise the variety of services we offer or the quality of care we deliver. We were spared more drastic action, like curtailing patient services, by the support we receive from our affiliation with Riverside Health System. Riverside remains strongly committed to our future and the future of healthcare on the Shore."
Staff were offered a transition package that includes 30 days pay plus an additional amount based on length of employment.

HELP! MISSING Kristen Shockely

Pocomoke resident Teresa Shockley needs help finding her missing daughter Kristen Shockley missing since April 6th.
This is a missing person case not unlike the Christine Sheddy case.
I have spoken to the mother and in her view of things she is not getting the cooperation and attention of the police agencies that a missing person case deserves so lets get her side of the story out in the ‘public eye’ and lets find this missing young lady.
Kirsten is a Worwic college student that would ride the transit bus everyday to get to Worwic. Kristen’s mother Teresa, would take Kristen to Wal*mart every Monday thru Thursday to catch the transit bus to Worwic, this was a daily routine that began in November of this year.
April 6th 2010 Kristen’s mother Teresa dropped Kristen off at the transit bus stop as usual and Kristen got on the bus to travel to Worwic just like any other day but on the day April 6th 2010 Kristen did not come home. We do not know if Kristen made it to the Worwic stop or got off the bus somewhere in-between Pocomoke and Worwic college but we do know Kristen did not go to class and did not come home, Kristen’s mother has not seen her daughter since that day, April 6th 2010.
When Kristen did not return home the mother (Teresa) tried to contact Kristen with no luck at that point Teresa contacted the Pocomoke Police, Kristen’s mother Teresa Shockely says she got the run-around and the police acted as though they felt that Kristen was just off having fun and has simply run away. When Kristen’s mother reported Kristen missing she was told that Kristen had to be missing for 24 hours before she would be considered a missing person. 24 hours pass and Kristen’s mother Teresa makes the official missing persons report, the Pocomoke city police still will not right up the missing persons report and tells Kristen’s mother that Kristen is “just off playing and partying” and brushed it off as not being serious. After Teresa presses the issue the Pocomoke city police finally file a missing persons report after Kristen had been missing for 3 days. According to Kristen’s mother Teresa she was not even referred to a detective, the report was taken by a patrol officer.
Kristen has a boyfriend that has been abusing her, he has beat Kristen a number of times to the point that Kristen had to visit the ER. Kristen’s mother says that charges were pressed but each time Kristen dropped the charges.
Near the date that Kristen went missing her boyfriend beat her again, sending Kristen to the ER for the 4th time, Kristen pressed charges, this time Kristen did not drop the charges and the boyfriend was arrested. Kristen’s boyfriend made bail after a few days in incarceration, 3 days later Kristen went missing.

CRISFIELD: Page Elmore to host town hall meeting tonight
Del. Page Elmore, R-38A, will hold a town hall meeting tonight in Crisfield to discuss issues facing the Maryland General Assembly in the upcoming session.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 319 W. Main St.
The public is invited to discuss any concerns they have.
Elmore also has two more meetings scheduled: Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Somerset County Office Complex in Princess Anne and Monday at 7 p.m. at Fruitland City Hall.
The 2010 session of the General Assembly begins Jan. 13 in Annapolis.

Pocomoke Blogger Billy Burke found guilty of illegally taping mayor
Billy (William) Burke, Publisher of The Pocomoke Tattler a Pocomoke City resident who went on trial today on charges that he illegally recorded a heated conversation with his town's mayor, made a plea agreement and was sentenced to probation before judgment.
Burke entered an Alford plea this afternoon, conceding that prosecutors had enough evidence to obtain a conviction without admitting guilt.
A Circuit Court judge pronounced Burke guilty of a misdemeanor wiretapping charge and sentenced him to probation, but did not hand down any jail time.
Burke stood accused of violating state wiretapping laws by recording a conversation with mayor Mike McDermott just before spring elections in 2009 without telling McDermott he was being taped. Burke's wife, Stephanie Burke, was a candidate for city council at the time.
Burke, who runs the pocomoketattler.com blog, had asserted his innocence in a blog posting this morning, saying the Bill of Rights and free-speech laws ought to protect him in the matter.

Well today is the day we find out the results of local blogger Billy Burke publisher of the Pocomoke Tattler wiretapping charges.
While the trial has been put-off and postponed several times Mr. Burke will today finally know his fate.
The trial was finally set to be a jury trial after the state bussed in a out-of-town judge that would hear the case.
On the Maryland Judicial Case search site Mr Burke's trial again has changed from a "Criminal Jury Trial", to a "Criminal Non-Jury Trial" holding the same date.
Mr. Burke was accused of "illegally recording" the Mayor of Pocomoke during the time that Mrs. Burke had been running for a council seat in Pocomoke and after publishing an out of context clip (posted below for you to hear) of the recording on his blog The Pocomoke Tattler.
The events that followed turned their life upside-down including a "raid" of their home where the PCPD collected most anything electronic that the Burke's owned and possesed, computers, cameras, recording devises, etc.
1st the recording was made in a public place. (hearsay)
2nd Mr. Burke (IMHO) did not receive a "speedy trial" while the state (for whatever reason) was looking to find an out-of-town robe.
Now of course I'm not an attorney, but I did study and make many phone calls on Mr Burke's behalf in relation to Marylands "wiretapping" laws and if all accounts are accurate he will be acquitted today. (and I did stay at Holiday Inn)
Yes it is immoral, unethical, and just not a nice thing to do while your 'mark' is unaware they are being recorded in what 'they' think to be a private conversation no matter where that conversation takes place. BUT... is it illegal?
We shall see.

Pocomoke City Christmas Parade
The 2009 Date Has Been Set!
On November 30, 2009 (Rain date Dec.2) Pocomoke City will be turned into a magnificent winter wonderland with one of Delmarva's largest nighttime Christmas parades. Always held on the first Monday night after Thanksgiving, the Pocomoke parade has become an Eastern Shore tradition and will attract over 100 units from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia along with thousands of spectators. As part of the tradition, parade night is said to be the "coldest night of the year. Each year the parade features marching bands representing middle and high schools from seven co
unties in three states.Also featured will be beautifully decorated and lighted floats entered by schools, civic organizations, churches and commercial enterprises. Clowns, marching units, fire departments, equestrian units, and of course the one and only "Santa Claus" will round out the two-hour event, slated to kick-off at 7:00 pm. sharp. Also as tradition the blowing of the fire siren will signal the starting of the parade. The route will take the parade North on Market Street beginning at 14th Street and ending at the Pocomoke River.
Professional Judges, from the Judges Association, will score entries in 10 different categories. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded immediately following the event to the top entries in each category. A special thanks to the community of Pocomoke City and Surrounding areas for the recent support given to us to continue this great tradition that has been a part of the town of over 30 years. Accident @ US 13 and Stockton Rd.
Yesterday one of my sons friends and his brother were crossing US 13 on Stockton Rd. I don't know if he didn't see the vehicle on 13 or if he just misjudged the distance, both had to be transported to PRMC.
This is and has been a very bad intersection for many years and for some reason, the cries of the people to the state to have a stop light at this intersection have so far gone rejected.
How many injuries and/or fatalities does it take for the state to recognize that this is a dangerous location?
For those of us that are experienced drivers and have crossed that portion of US 13 many times, we realize that when a vehicle pops around that south-bound turn they are on top of us and we don't chance it. To new drivers and/or visitors this optical illusion looks as if they have plenty of time to cross.
This intersection needs attention, lets get it done before someone else is seriously injured or killed.

H1N1: Free walk-in clinic scheduled Saturday in Wicomico
SALISBURY — The Wicomico County Health Department plans to hold a free, walk-in H1N1 vaccination clinic Saturday.
Appointments are available and walk-ins can fill in between appointments.
Intranasal and injectable vaccines will be available to pregnant women, persons who live or provide care for infants under six months of age, any individuals age six months to 24 years and individuals age 25 to 64 with underlying medical conditions.
The clinic is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the William C. Fritz building on West Carroll Street.

Pocomoke sweeps Bayside South field hockey awards
Congratulations Pocomoke Warriors.
POCOMOKE CITY -- The Bayside South field hockey awards and teams have been announced, and Pocomoke swept, winning both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year and Co-Coach of the Year.
Michelle Roberts was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Taylor West was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Coach Susan Pusey was named co-Coach of the Year along with Parkside head coach Kim Pelot.
Other Warriors making the first team include Annah Brittingham, Bianca Merritt, Kasey Tapman and goal keeper Derian Matthews.
Washington had four players make the first team, including Gracie Daniels, Amanda Muir, Tyler Overholt and Dana Rock.
Parkside had three players make the first team, including Anna Davis, Rachel McCain and Breck Sullivan. Crisfield's Courtney Thomas and Stephen Decatur's Alicia Arrivello rounded out the first team.
Pocomoke also had three players make the second team, which included Skylar Hall, Emily Leonard and Natalie Parks. Washington had three players make the team, which included Amber Baines, Lindsey Lescallett and Kelsey Thornton. Crisfield's Elle Hinman and Kirsten Ward were also named. Parkside's Kari Lamboni and keeper Caroline Carozza, along with Decatur's Gracie Ferber and Wicomico's Megan White, finished the second team.

Smith Island school boat captain arrested for drunken boating
A captain of the Smith Island school boat was charged with operating his boat under the influence of alcohol while he was transporting schoolchildren.
Alan Wade Tyler, 49, was arrested Wednesday after the Coast Guard boarded and then detained his 60-foot boat, the Chelsea Lane Tyler, in Tylerton until Maryland Natural Resources Police arrived.
The five children on board were transported home to Ewell by NRP officers, said Sgt. Art Windemuth, an NRP spokesman.
Tyler was charged with operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol, operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol, operating a vessel while impaired by any drug or combination of drugs and alcohol and negligent operation of a vessel.
The Coast Guard has temporarily suspended his license and will initiate administrative proceedings against him, according to a spokesman for the agency.
Tyler, along with his father, Alan Tyler Sr., share the responsibility of transporting island children to and from Crisfield High School each day.
Alan Tyler Sr. is the owner of the boat and has a contract with the Somerset County Board of Education, similar to contracts the school system has with bus drivers.
Superintendent Karen-Lee Brofee said she did not learn of the incident until about 24 hours later, and still did not know all the details except that the island children did not miss school Thursday.
"There was no break in service," she said. "The children will still get to school safely."

More on Eastern Shore Robotics
POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- Students across Delmarva are building robots to learn about engineering.
On Monday, a team of local high schoolers showed off their latest creation, affectionately called "Bubbles" the robot, at the Hawk Institute for Space Sciences in Pocomoke City.
The students say they spent about 150 hours to build a robot that competed in an international competition earlier this year. It went against other robots in a game that required each machine to toss balls into the attached trailing nets of competitors.
Organizers of the local non-profit group, called Eastern Shore Robotics, say it helps recruit a next generation of engineers. The group participates in the international FIRST Robotics competition.
"As our older engineers retire, we don't have a lot of really well-trained [and] technically-minded young kids coming in to fill those positions," said Chris Thompson, an organizer of the group.
The group uses resources from the Navy and NASA. It plans to begin working on a its next robot, under a strict six-week build period for the competition, beginning in January.

Crisfield Teen Arrested for Attempted Murder
Authorities on Friday morning arrested a Crisfield teen wanted on attempted murder and related charges in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this month.
Crisfield police say that on Oct. 13, 17-year-old Denzell J. Gregory got into an argument with another male at the Somers Cove apartments complex in Crisfield. Investigators say Gregory pulled a handgun from his waistband and began shooting at the victim while he ran away. The victim was not injured during the incident, according to police.
Police say while investigating the shooting, they received information that Gregory had fled to the Salisbury area.
At around 6 a.m. Friday, Crisfield police, working with Salisbury police, Maryland State Police, the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, executed two search and seizure warrants at 907 Apartment G on Booth Street in Salisbury as well as at 154 Somers Cove apartments in Crisfield.
During Friday's execution of the search and seizure warrants, police located Gregory in the Booth Street apartment and took him into custody. Investigators say that hidden inside Gregory's jacket was the .38 caliber automatic handgun used in the Crisfield shooting, along with several pieces of crack cocaine. Police say that in addition, officers located inside the apartment 1-ounce of crack cocaine and several bags of heroin.

Pocomoke Walmart thief to pay store back what he stole
"Timed served" seams like the-in-trend everywhere now. Do you think Wal*mart will get it's restitution? I doubt it.
A Salisbury man has been ordered to repay a local Walmart for more than $1,100 in merchandise he stole over a four-week period during the summer.
A Salisbury man has been ordered to repay a local Walmart for more than $1,100 in merchandise he stole over a four-week period during the summer.
Gary Belote, 37, of Decatur Avenue pleaded guilty to theft less than $100 for an Aug. 24 incident, in which he was caught walking out of the Pocomoke City Walmart Supercenter with a $99 cell phone SIM card. Worcester County District Court Judge Gerald Purnell gave him the maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, although the judge allowed the 64 days he had already served since his arrest count toward that total. The remaining 26 days were suspended, and Belote was ordered not to return to Walmart for three years.
Six other counts of theft and trespassing in the case were placed on the inactive docket as part of a plea deal. In addition, while the store had surveillance tapes of Belote taking other merchandise off the rack and opening packaging, Deputy Worcester County State's Attorney Paul Haskell said he "can't prove that he went to the register or not."
However, Belote will still have to pay restitution to the Pocomoke City store for all the goods he is accused of stealing between Aug. 8 and Aug. 24 -- a value of $1,196.32.

2 units were burning, no cause yet, but the fire is extinguished.. all in less then 1 hour from volunteers that have to drive to the VFD, get suited-up etc.

Chapter 5: Just the facts, Man!
OE has decided that this chapter will not be about Nictitates misguided, misinformed, and sometimes made up story. Somehow along the way of this tale, OE came to the realization that Nictitates book was just plain stupid! There will always be someone out there looking to suck off of another to sensationalize their self. Anyone with half a brain can figure out Nictitates motives and if you can’t, OE will tell you that the motives are not pure.
Christine’s family has chosen to align their selves with Nictitate and have exhibited behavior beyond belief to all who have done nothing more than extend a hand of compassion. We know who has done what and belaboring the point is useless. Their behavior is self destructive and OE believes that they know no other way in life.
OE began this tale because too many lies were being told about efforts to find Christine and bring the people to justice who are responsible for her disappearance. Good, kind hearted people were being unfairly maligned and it was beyond OE’s realm of understanding how anyone could be so evil and hateful wishing to intentionally cause pain to others. It is still beyond OE’s realm of understanding.
Much ado has been made about the Fires on Byrd Road. Readers have asked many questions about what went on during the period from September to November of 2007 at the farm where Christine was staying and was last seen. Speculation about these fires is that the occupants disposed of Christine in one of the many fires and one of the searches focused on sifting through the ashes of the burnt down chicken house. OE has searched out the story about the fires and is now sharing them with you.
Sources tell OE that the first fire started around 10:00 P.M. on September 20, 2007. The neighbors tell OE that their dog had been barking off and on and they assumed that it was barking at deer walking around and eating in the just harvested corn fields surrounding the farm. They first noticed the fire while watching television and catching a glimpse of bright orange out the window. One of the neighbors got up and looked and saw that the end of one of the old chicken houses on the farm was in flames. They immediately called 911 to report the fire.
Fire crews arrived within minutes to put out the flames which were by then burning out of control. Sources tell OE that they had to have seen it because by the time the neighbors saw it the fire was burning out of control.
It is known that the occupants first said that “hunters” had been on the property and insisted the “hunters” were around when the fire started and were also back on the property afterwards. No one else saw these “hunters”. Sources tell OE that the following day one of the occupants of the farm house produced a Delaware license plate that had been partially burned. Supposedly, it was found while the occupants were looking through the remains of the fire. This was turned over to a Deputy Fire Marshall who was investigating the fire.
Contradictory to this story, one source tells OE that the owner of the farm had been on the property that day and one of the occupants and his nephew who was visiting from New York at the time, had told a story about how they had removed the license plate from the owners truck and made it look like he had been the one to start the fire. They did this because the owner had given them notice of eviction. Purely for informational purposes, the owner of the farm did not have insurance on the old chicken houses.
In the early hours of September 22nd, someone invaded the neighboring home while they were sleeping and stole a laptop, cell phone, and wallet. Sources tell OE that the neighbors have no doubt that it was one of the occupants of the farm house. Amazingly, one of the occupants of the farm house taunted the neighbors afterwards telling them that he had done it. He was brazen enough to admit in court to the Judge that yes he had told the neighbors that he did it.
The occupants came up with the rent money and were not evicted. Speculation about where the money came from to pay the rent ran rampant because none of the occupants worked a job. The big question was, where did the money come from to pay the rent?

Sources tell OE that every time that the neighbors had company or tried to sit outside in their backyard, the occupants of the farm house would come on their property and start trouble. At one point, one of the farm house occupants was arrested and spent the night in jail. Sources tell OE that particular incident started the threats from the farm house occupants of hurting or killing the neighbors. One of the farm house occupants was carrying a lead pipe and trying to hit people with it. By this time, Justin Hadel was living at the farm house.
The terror of huge “bon fires” began. Sources tell OE that at all hours of the night 30 to 40 foot flames would suddenly shoot up into the air in the area surrounding the farm house. Eyewitnesses tell OE that it appeared as if the whole place was going to go up in flames. OE is told that on some occasions during these huge “bon fires” the occupants of the farm house could be seen dancing around the fire and throwing something into it that exploded.
The second fire began around midnight in early October. The other end of the old chicken house that had not burnt down in the first fire burst into flames. Security guards who had been hired to protect the neighbors called 911. Eyewitnesses watched as a small glow began in the building and then burst into flames. By the time that fire crews arrived, which was in minutes after the 911 call, the remainder of the building was burning out of control.
This time, Fire Marshall McMahon arrived to investigate. The occupants of the farm house told the story of seeing the neighbors on the back part of their property and that they started the fire. When the Fire Marshall questioned the neighbors, it was learned that the security guards were on the back part of the property patrolling not the neighbors. It was learned that while patrolling, the occupants of the farm house were observed sitting in a car drinking beer and then taking off and tearing up the soybean field surrounding the old chicken house.
Again, many questions and speculations ran rampant. One source tells OE that the occupants of the farm house were heard arguing and one of the occupants was hollering at the other saying “I know that you did this”.
The Fire Marshall laid down the law to everyone and said that if he saw so much as a spark, he would take it as someone trying to burn something down. The entire area was like tinder waiting to burn.

The neighbors explained what Fire Marshall McMahon had directed them to do and were told that the occupants of the farm house could now do whatever they wanted. Eyewitnesses tell OE that this “talk” got very loud and threatening. The neighbors ended it by telling the LE men that the whole place could burn down and they wouldn’t pick up the telephone. They then sent the LE men on their way.
This incident has had many accusing the VFD of threatening the neighbors. Clearly, the VFD had nothing to do with it. The neighbors say that if they had wanted to do something about it, they would and that they “surely would not ask Nictitate to stick her nose into it”. After seeing a recent email where Nictitate is questioning about the threats made to them if they called the fire department, they are angry that it continually appears to be a sticking point with Nictitate and that all kinds of wild accusations are being made. They feel that it’s no one’s business unless they say it is and have talked to OE and PPE only because the entire story has been misconstrued and they want the record set straight. They are also angry that Nictitate has taken pictures without permission that belong to them and is using them for personal gain. They have requested in the past and are requesting again that the pictures be removed from Nictitates website.
OE has obtained an actual picture of the second chicken house fire. Unlike Nictitate, OE was given the picture with permission to use it.
This is an actual Byrd Rd fire, not a controlled burn fire from the Showell VFD site.

As the story goes, the occupants were utilizing an old wood stove in the farm house to provide heat. Sources tell OE that they had grabbed up or chopped up any piece of wood that they could find. In spite of being told not to use the woodstove, they did. Somehow, the house caught on fire and again, fire crews had to put out another fire on the Byrd Road Farm in the early morning hours.
Christine was living at the farm house at this time. As a matter of fact, this fire occurred 2 days prior to when she went missing. Questions remain as to why she stayed after the fire because the farm house was not habitable. The VFD had cut a hole in the roof to put out the fire and everything had to have been soaked from where the fire fighters used water to put the fire out. We know that there was no hot water or heat. It’s inconceivable that anyone would inhabit a house under these conditions especially with two small children. OE’s question for Nictitate is – Did Christine go somewhere else to stay after the house fire?

Amazingly, since November of 2007, the VFD has not had to rush to Byrd Road. Clearly, something was going on however it has been explained to OE that suppositions are not enough evidence to put an arsonist behind bars. Unless an arsonist is witnessed in the actual act of starting a fire a conviction is rare. Don’t criticize the VFD’s or the Fire Marshall for this. Go to your Sate Capitol and get the laws changed.
There appears to be a clear pattern and we have learned that one of the former occupants of the Byrd Road Farm has now been arrested in Tennessee for repeating the same pattern. Eviction equals set it on fire.

Chapter 5: Just the facts, Man!
OE has decided that this chapter will not be about Nictitates misguided, misinformed, and sometimes made up story. Somehow along the way of this tale, OE came to the realization that Nictitates book was just plain stupid! There will always be someone out there looking to suck off of another to sensationalize their self. Anyone with half a brain can figure out Nictitates motives and if you can’t, OE will tell you that the motives are not pure.
Christine’s family has chosen to align their selves with Nictitate and have exhibited behavior beyond belief to all who have done nothing more than extend a hand of compassion. We know who has done what and belaboring the point is useless. Their behavior is self destructive and OE believes that they know no other way in life.
OE began this tale because too many lies were being told about efforts to find Christine and bring the people to justice who are responsible for her disappearance. Good, kind hearted people were being unfairly maligned and it was beyond OE’s realm of understanding how anyone could be so evil and hateful wishing to intentionally cause pain to others. It is still beyond OE’s realm of understanding.
Much ado has been made about the Fires on Byrd Road. Readers have asked many questions about what went on during the period from September to November of 2007 at the farm where Christine was staying and was last seen. Speculation about these fires is that the occupants disposed of Christine in one of the many fires and one of the searches focused on sifting through the ashes of the burnt down chicken house. OE has searched out the story about the fires and is now sharing them with you.

It seams as if many people here are taking advantage of the system, things like section 8 housing, food stamps, free medical, etc. yet some of these people are completely able to contribute to society.
Take for example a person that was just summoned to court for a
If a person is physically able to “stalk” another person why does the system grant them tax dollars only to be a burden on society and commit illegal activities? If we would happen to encounter this “stalker” and kick their ass your tax dollars will pay for their medical bills, feed them and pay their rent and utilities, does that make sense?
It simply seams to me that we here on the shore have an over abundances of government leaches that draw from the government teat and never add any value to our community.

While Jonathan Taylor was NOT supposed to be in Court today, he showed up in a wheel chair and required special attention when the Donna Ennis case was brought up. He was escorted into the court room in an extra wide, (seriously) wheel chair and the Judge said, why don't we try this case today, since both parties are here. Clearly the Judge could realize that Jonathan had been served a temporary Peace Order and considering today's hearing was supposed to only be about Donna, Jonathan proved to the Judge just by showing up for a hearing that he will follow her no matter what.Clearly walking out of the court just fine!!
