The untold story...The Bridge-Tunnel Commission financed this project by issuing about $200 million in tax free bonds. By 1970 they defaulted on about $100 million of the bonds, many of which were held by local residents, including my grandparents.

Recognition for our Public Safety Dispatchers-

 City - County - State - Federal

(Worcester County Sheriff's Office:) ... we want to recognize the critical work our dispatchers do. They are the first contact for our residents, in potentially the worst day of their life. They are the calm voice on the other end of the phone reassuring callers that they are not alone, and that help is on the way, all while ensuring officers receive crucial information to respond. They are extremely important in determining how each call is going to come to completion. Our office is extremely grateful for their service to us all.

They perform an invaluable job. We see you and we thank you!

Much appreciation to our dispatch brothers and sisters!!

Apparently they are not important enough to tell us who they are.

Special Weather Statement
National Weather Service Wakefield VA
831 AM EDT Sun Apr 14 2024

...INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY...

The combination of dry fuels, relative humidity values of as low
as 25 percent, and southwest winds gusting to 25 mph will increase
the potential for the spread of wildfires today.

Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential
ignition source...including machinery... cigarettes...and matches.
Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses
and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread
quickly.

Virginia residents are reminded that open burning is
prohibited before 4 pm each day through April 30th.
