WESTOVER, Md.- The DEA’s Take Back Day event provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. Too often unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, leading to dangerous and tragic results.
Take Back Day offers the opportunity to dispose of unused/expired prescription medications in a safe manner across the country. This year, Take Back Day will be taking place on Saturday, October 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The following prescription drug drop off sites are available in Somerset County:
Needles, liquids, thermometers, or biohazard materials will be not be accepted in any of the Drug Take Back boxes. Acceptable deposits include: any expired or unused medication that comes in pill form, capsules, or liquid in a bottle and/or non-liquid forms of medication that can be in the original container or in a zip lock baggie.
For individuals unable to take unused prescription medication to a Drug Take Back Box, the Somerset County Health Department will be offering Deterra Drug Deactivation and Disposal System Pouches to any community member who would like one. The easy-to-use drug disposal system can be used at home or in a clinical setting to safely destroy unused or expired medications, making them unavailable for misuse and safe for disposal in normal trash. To receive a Deterra Pouch, call 443-523-1700.
