Pocomoke Mayor Mike McDermott Stripped Of Police Powers In Worcester County

SNOW HILL — Worcester County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael McDermott was temporarily stripped of his police powers while the department investigates a Sept. 2009 incident involving a service weapon, according to his lawyer. McDermott is the mayor of Pocomoke City and a Republican candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 38B.

Worcester County Sheriff Charles T. Martin confirmed that McDermott’s power to arrest was taken away on July 22, and said McDermott is now on administrative office duties. An incident involving McDermott is being investigated, Martin said, but he declined to comment on the specifics of the case because it is a personnel matter.
“Those powers remain suspended until they are reinstated by me or the case is adjudicated,” Martin said. “It’s something that is going to be adjudicated within the system, and he knows the system as well as I do."

I'm still voting for Mike and if I hear one inkling that this is somehow politically motivated the 2 democratic (local) candidates for other offices, that I am (reluctantly) voting for, are losing my vote.

Everyone in town knows it was only a matter of time before McDermott went down.

C'mon we all believed him and he lied to all of us

Mike should be a man and withdraw from the race and resign as Mayor.

I read somewhere that even his father said he should resign.

The transparancy behind this is so obvious. The residents of this county haven't heard from their sheriff in years. Any and all press releases were done though a public infomation official from the sheriff's office.
Now all of a sudden, during an election year the sheriff for whatever reason feels the need to issue a statement himself? Politally motivated? Yeah I'd say so.

Anon 12:24 I agree with you. I don't think that this is a matter to spew before the public and if it wasn't an election year and if it was who it is no one would know anything about it.

How convenient it is that this happened almost a year ago and gets dug out now.

And didn't Sheriff Martin appear in Norm Conway's TV ads in uniform? That's a violation of Departmental Policy. Hmmmm.
