Members of Volunteer Nature Trail Committee were introduced at the Pocomoke City  Council Meeting  on Monday night, June 3, 2013.

During the evening meeting  Hunter Tatterson  was recognized for his community service.  I'm sure anyone working on the Nature Trail will admit that the work was not easy but the results have been fulfilling....ask this community spirited young man.  Fourteen-year old Hunter Tatterson selected working on the nature trail as his Community Service Project through his school.

Nature Trail Update

If you missed last night’s City Council meeting (only three other people attended that I saw) you missed a small town ceremony of Hunter Tatterson being honored for his volunteerism of the Trail construction going far beyond his Community Service requirement. And there was Andy Clarke receiving the “Whomper,” the fabled black circus hammer that dwarfed the

pitifully small gavel the mayor was forced to use. Now the Whomper is a hammer (to paraphrase Crocodile Dundee). What it symbolizes is more than a backwoods argument settler: it is stewardship of the Trail.

 

Don Malloy and I have shared that stewardship over the years, understanding that the City of Pocomoke and the City Public Works crew have taken maintenance to a matter of pride as well. We are blessed with good political leadership in an era when politicians seem to decide to NOT cooperate with each other. Maybe we should take the

Whomper to Washington to settle a few of the arguments we hear about in the news (and many more we don’t know about).

 

After the incredible pace of the 5/25 work day, the last week has been a welcome breather. We will put up the three next observation stations on Friday.

 

New members of the Foot of the Trail include Diane and Jack Burton. Our T-shirts are available at the Chamber of Commerce Office (410-957-1919) and at mine (410-957-1550). Don Malloy and JoAnn Shoemaker also have a few shirts for sale. I must say the crew of volunteers all decked out in the various colors of Bird shirts looked great at City hall last night.
