TIME MACHINE: 2004, 1915, 1939, 1952.

October, 2004

(Corrections to newspaper typo's below: should read "It was sold in the 1990's." and "which used to be WDVM.")

The change from WDMV to WGOP occurred when the corporation owning the station decided to assign the WDMV call letters to a station it operated on the western shore and assign that station's WGOP call to 540 in Pocomoke. -tk

1964.. Cassius Clay becomes the heavyweight boxing champion defeating Sonny Liston.

1975.. Home video recorders are a reality but will it be Betamax or VHS winning format dominance?

The Time Machine is a weekly feature I've enjoyed researching and compiling on The Pocomoke Public Eye since 2011.  I have fond memories of growing up in Pocomoke City and welcome reader contributions we can share about things you've read, remember, or were told relating to our Pocomoke/Eastern shore area...a sentence, a paragraph, or more all fine. Just email it.

  1. I may be wrong but I believe Choppy along with the late Wayne Powell together opened Transmedia (music shop) and Transmedia Thing (live music venue)in the early 70's. A great safe place for young people to have an enjoyable time.

  2. Barry is correct about Choppy and Wayne's Transmedia, Transmedia Thing. They actually got it started around 1968 and kept it going into the 1970's. Thanks for the noteworthy recollection Barry.
