Doe! Deer Rescuer Threatened With Criminal Charges

After being rescued, Sunny the fawn faces euthanasia, while Sunny's rescuer is threatened with jail time.

Leslie Cain thought she was doing the right thing when she saved an orphaned baby deer she named Sunny.

Investigators from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, however, were of a different opinion.

Cain is under criminal investigation and faces 60 days in jail and a $500 fine after investigators learned that she had found Sunny in a subdivision in Ohio and took her across state lines to a farm in central Kentucky.

Say what? Turns out, it's against the law to transport orphaned deer for fear of spreading disease.

What's more, investigators have told Cain she needs to help them locate Sunny so the fawn can be euthanized.

So far, Cain says she wants to cooperate, but claims she wouldn't be able to find the farm she brought Sunny to because she brought the fawn there at night (why she can't simply ask the friend of a friend who originally gave her the information for the location is a mystery). The outcome of Sunny's saga remains to be seen. Sunny, if you're reading this – make a run for it!
