Jackson Holliday is back doing Jackson Holliday things.

It took only two games, but the Orioles' top prospect has shaken off his disappointing first stint in the majors and resumed his mashing of minor league pitching.  Holliday is hitting .289 with a home run and three doubles over his past twelve games for Triple-A Norfolk.  He's walked (15) more than he's struck out (12) showing the kind of production that prompted the Orioles to call up the 20-year-old in the first place.

"He's doing exactly what we're asking him to do," Orioles executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias told the Baltimore Sun on Monday.  "He's putting the work in.  He's been a very encouraging performer in the time he's been back down there, and I think things are trending in a really good direction.  He's doing a great job of putting in a lot of work, and he's had good results to show for it already.  Things are looking good."

The Orioles have sent their No. 1 prospect, Jackson Holliday, back to the minor leagues after his struggles to start the season.

Holliday was batting .059 in ten games with only two hits and 18 strikeouts. The 20-year-old phenom finally hit a wall in his pro career, struggling for the first time at the plate since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2022.

The move was announced today by the Orioles who are recalling outfielder Ryan Mckenna from triple-a.

In a corresponding move they also designated catcher David Bañuelos for assignment. Jordan Westburg and Jorge Mateo are expected to take over at second base, while Ramon Urias will fill in at third.

Holliday was hitting well at triple-a before his major league debut, so if he can find his confidence and begin hitting again, he shouldn’t be in the minor leagues for too long. It may just have been a little early for this Oriole’s No. 1 prospect.

(UPDATED) Jackson Holliday won't be on the big team to start season.

 

The Pocomoke Public Eye will be keeping an eye on former Delmarva Shorebird Jackson Holliday who's been in Spring Training with the Baltimore Orioles.  Last season Holliday sped through the ranks from Low 'A,' High 'A," Double 'A,' and Triple 'A.'  Will we see him on the Baltimore team later this season?
