A later years' view of the J. J. Newberry store on the northeast corner of Market and Second Street.
Prior to moving into their new building Newberry's was located on the west side of Market Street (between Scher's and the old bank building). There were two other "5 & 10's" in downtown Pocomoke: Woolworth's was in the middle of the block on the east side of Market Street (between Clarke and Second), and Murry's was on the southwest corner of Market Street and Clarke Avenue.

A fertilizer truck is shown engulfed in flames near Cheriton on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, closing southbound lanes on Route 13. The driver escaped injury. The vehicle had been used to spread dry fertilizer.
