Maryland's 36-cents per gallon gas tax may be suspended temporarily

 

As Maryander’s reel from skyrocketing gas prices, Governor Larry Hogan, House Speaker Adrienne Jones, and Senate President Bill Ferguson this week agreed to temporarily suspend Maryland’s gas tax.

In a joint statement, Speaker Jones and President Ferguson said they would work with the governor in the coming days to provide a month-long reprieve for drivers by suspending Maryland’s 36 cents per gallon tax on gasoline.

Area Code use on Va. Shore

Beginning April 9, callers will have to dial the area code even when calling locally.  The new overlay will add another code to the 757 area of southeast Virginia in September.  From that point, all new phone numbers will have 948 as their area code.  As of Friday April 9, callers who do not use 757 along with the 7 digit regular number will not be connected.

The Russian Space Agency’s decision not to sell rocket motors to the United States could have an impact on Northrup Grumman’s  Antares launches at Wallops, but  Supervisor Ron Wolf said the next two launches will take place as scheduled.

(Nasdaq: RKLB), a global leader in launch services and space systems, has selected Wallops Island, Virginia in Accomack County as the location for its launch site and extensive manufacturing and operations facilities for its Neutron rocket, which is expected to create up to 250 new jobs.

Masks in public schools now optional on lower Eastern Shore

 

Mandatory mask requirements have been lifted in the public schools in Worcester, Somerset, and Wicomico Counties, including on school buses.  However, wearing a mask in the school environment is strongly recommended.
