This Sunday here at The Pocomoke Public Eye we take you back to 1879 and the trial of a young Pocomoke City woman charged in the shooting death of her close female companion at the large residence of the victim's parents on Willow Street.  The trial made news nationwide .. a real life soap opera-like drama being recounted in court proceedings in Snow Hill. NORTHAMPTON CONFEDERATE MONUMENT PUBLIC HEARING DRAWS RANGE OF OPINIONS

The public hearing on the future of the Confederate Monument on the Historic Courthouse Green in Eastville drew a wide array of opinions Tuesday evening.

Most of the speakers supported Dr. Art Carter’s idea of adding to the Historic Courthouse Green, rather than taking away or tearing down. Carter proposes adding a monument to a Union Solider who is carved in “an African-American likeness.”

Footnote:  Meinster's father was a longtime Pocomoke City dentist. Anyone remember when his office was at a second floor location on the east side of Market Street, vicinity of the F.W. Woolworth store? Later Dr. Meinster's dental practice  was located at his home on Second Street.
