Scam alert for Comcast internet customers

Comcast Xfinity says it will never call, ask for sensitive details over phone. They will also not call you and ask to connect to your computer.

There's a consumer alert for Comcast Xfinity customers who might have received phone calls from “Comcast Customer Assistance”. There are several scam versions such as the caller telling you that your modem wasn't accepting updates or that your internet IP address has been compromised.

If you’re a Comcast customer and you see “Comcast” on your caller ID, do not answer the phone because Comcast says it’s a scammer trying to steal your personal information. Comcast is warning customers not to fall for this scam.

“We’re not going to call you and ask for your password. We’re not going to call and ask you to give us your sensitive details over the phone or ask you to send us your account number or Social Security number or anything like that," said Cindy Arco, public relations manager for Comcast Xfinity.

Comcast says if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Comcast employee and the call sounds suspicious, do not give out any personal information and immediately hang up the phone. After you hang up the phone, make sure you call Comcast to report that suspicious phone call.

"You can call us at 1-800-Comcast or 1-800-Xfinity and that way, you know, you’re actually speaking with a Comcast agent and we can check your account to see if there is something that needs to be addressed," Arco said.

Accomack School Board

(Shore Daily News)

The Accomack School board took no action on the inevitable rescinding of mandating mask wearing by students Tuesday night.

Parents continued to press the school board during the public comment period of the meeting. One asked what would be done now that the Governor has asked for an emergency order that would allow parents to immediately decide whether their children will wear masks at school.

The officials did not respond to the question.  The Board previously voted 8-1 to require masks and students have been suspended for not doing so.

Hogan leaves door open for presidential bid

 (CNN)

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) on Sunday said he is “certainly going to take a look” at a 2024 bid for president, days after he announced that he will not run for Senate in the Old Line State despite members of his party urging him to campaign for a seat in the upper chamber.

Asked by co-anchor Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union” if he is considering a presidential run, Hogan emphasized that he is focused on completing his term as governor, which expires in January 2023.

“I'm going to run through the tape as governor until January of next year. I'm going to try to be the very best governor I can be. I'm going to continue to stand up and be a voice. I'm not going to sit back and not be involved in the issues of the day,” Hogan said.

“I'm concerned about the direction of the party and the country. And I will make a decision about 2024 after I finish this job,” he added.

Pressed on if he is considering a presidential bid, Hogan said “We're certainly going to take a look at it after January of '23.”
