Fire takes out the Dubois home on Brantley Road, Pocomoke City, two days before Christmas. Now donations are being accepted through Go Fund Me.

POCOMOKE CITY — A local family is struggling to recover following a tragic fire that burned down their house two days before Christmas.

Now the public is being asked to help them get back on their feet.

It was just before 6 a.m. on Dec. 23 when Pocomoke, Snow Hill and Girdletree volunteer firefighters were called for service to a working fire at the Dubois family home at 3624 Brantley Road.

Accomack County Public Schools 1/5

 

Weather Delay for Wednesday, January 5, 2022 

Due to icy road conditions, Accomack County Public Schools will be observing a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 for all students, staff, and 12-month employees.


Worcester County Public Schools 1/5

 
Due to inclement weather conditions, Worcester County Public Schools will be opening two-hours late on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.  Due to the two-hour delay, there will be no AM half-day Pre-Kindergarten classes. Busses will operate accordingly.


Somerset County Public Schools 1/5


Due to icy back roads and more inclement weather expected, Somerset County Schools will be closed Wednesday, January 5, 2022. 12 month staff is to telework. Essential personnel should report for building checks.

Accomack County Public Schools-

 
Virtual Learning Day for Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Due to road conditions, Accomack County Public Schools will be closed for in person instructions on January 4, 2022. This will be a Virtual Learning Day for students. Twelve month employees should work from home.


Worcester County Public Schools-

 

Due to continued inclement weather conditions, Worcester County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  All after school, evening and Adult Education classes are also cancelled.


Somerset County Public Schools-

Due to inclement weather, Somerset County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January, 4, 2022. 12 month staff will not report. Essential personnel should report when it is safe for building checks and to prepare for reopening on Wednesday.



Mayor & City Council Meeting cancelled

The Pocomoke Mayor & City Council Meeting originally scheduled for Monday evening, January 3rd, has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. Agenda items will be moved to the next Mayor & City Council Meeting which will take place on Tuesday, January 18, at 630pm.

1/1/22 announcement from Somerset County Public Schools

 

SCPS will return in-person from Winter Break on Monday, January 3, 2022.

At this time, we have no plans to make changes to our in-person learning status. We will return on Monday, January 3rd in-person, maintaining our mask requirements for students, staff and visitors. We will continue to maintain our enhanced sanitization efforts, and social distancing protocols to minimize the risk of transmission in our school buildings.

Berlin New Year's Friday events cancelled

Due to rising COVID-19 CASES in the area and multiple vendor cancellations, the Mayor and Council of the town of Berlin have decided to cancel the laser shows and ball drops on Main Street.

All town-scheduled events for Friday, December 31st, are cancelled.

Although the town's New Year's eve events are cancelled, please consider supporting our local business community.

(Numerous venues serving food and beverages are scheduled to be open New Year's eve.)

Former long-time Worcester County Commissioner has died

BERLIN, Md.- James Lee Purnell Jr., who served as the first Black member, president and vice president of the Worcester County Commissioners, passed away Monday at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. He was 84.
