SCAM ALERT

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office has received reports that several residents are receiving scam phone calls that appear to come from the Sheriff's Office's official phone number.

The caller falsely claims the victim missed Federal Jury Duty and now has a citation or warrant requiring them to pay several thousand dollars immediately.

THIS IS A SCAM!!!

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office will never call you to tell you that you missed jury duty, threaten you with arrest, or demand payment over the phone. Scammers can "spoof" phone numbers, making it appear that the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency—even when it is not.

If you receive a call like this:

• Hang up immediately.

• Do not provide any personal or financial information.

• Do not send money or purchase gift cards or cryptocurrency.

• If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Worcester County Sheriff's Office directly using a trusted phone number.

Please help protect your family, friends, and neighbors by sharing this post. Staying informed is one of the best ways to prevent becoming the next victim of a scam.

POSTPONED: Neighborhood Outreach Initiative Rescheduled to July 16

Due to weather concerns, Pocomoke City's Neighborhood Outreach Initiative scheduled for Thursday, July 9, was postponed.

The event has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 16, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

We still look forward to meeting with residents in the neighborhoods surrounding:

(Montgomery Ward was located across the street from the current Pocomoke City Hall Municipal Building which was under construction in 1936/1937.)

How old am I? I easily remember George Henderson, Jr., Mary Lee Moore (Leister) and when Walters Implement Company had new tractors delivered by rail car down by Railroad Avenue. My first pair of real work boots came from the Montgomery Ward store, sold by Bobby Judd for the magnificent sum of $10.

tk for PPE says:  Mary Lee Moore was my second-grade teacher. That is, it was Miss Moore at the start of the school year and Mrs. (Klein) Leister later during that school year.  She dressed in her wedding gown to show us.  Bobby Judd was in my sister's graduating class of 1954.  His younger sister Peggy was in my class.  Could you have bought those work boots at the adjacent JC Penney at the corner of Clarke and Market?  I remember Bobby working there.

Good catch! Bobby did work at JC Penny, the place with all the pneumatic tubes. I was fascinated with the "latest" technology.
