Early 1970s Pocomoke High Scholl star basketball player Wilbert "Wilbur" Mills passed away, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest athletes in the school's history.
High School Achievements
- Led the Pocomoke Warriors to their first-ever MPSSAA State Championship in 1971.
- Remembered by peers as an elite guard and the "greatest teammate ever".
College Career
- Played NCAA collegiate basketball for the James Madison University Dukes from 1972 to 1976.
- Set the school's single-season assist record with 126 assists during the 1973–74 season.
- Ranks among the all-time single season assist leaders in James Madison University program history.
- Later Life and Legacy
- Resided in the Pocomoke City area with his wife, Myrtle Marie Tindley Mills.
- Predeceased his family members, including his son, Wilbert "Buddy" Mills Jr.
- Honored posthumously through The Wilbert J. Mills, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supports local students.
