After 3 years at WMDT, meteorologist Erich Ahlf has left for greener pastures (and whiter winters) in Albany, N.Y. where he'll be presenting the weather at the CBS TV affiliate there.  Meteorologist Jake Grant, formerly with WMDT, is now doing weather for Fox Carolina in the Greenville-Spartanburg area. Meteorologists Sam Leppo and Drew Wolf joined WMDT recently.

Other local media news:

Kristina DeRobertis, formerly with WBOC and WRDE is now working as an executive news producer with an Allentown, Pa. television station.

Ever notice?

WMDT's weekend newscasts (apparently recorded on Friday) are a repeat of news from the previous week.  Why? Probably to avoid the expense of a news and studio crew on the weekend when news ratings are mostly lower anyway and news is sometimes pre-empted by sports.  WBOC pinches pennies on the weekend by having the news reader present the weather most times rather than one of the station's meteorologists being there.

Even E.S. Va. can't dodge it...

Early 1970s Pocomoke High School star basketball player Wilbert "Wilbur" Mills passed away, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest athletes in the school's history.

High School Achievements

• Led the Pocomoke Warriors to their first-ever MPSSAA State Championship in 1971.
• Remembered by peers as an elite guard and the "greatest teammate ever". 

College Career

• Played NCAA collegiate basketball for the James Madison University Dukes from 1972 to 1976.
• Set the school's single-season assist record with 126 assists during the 1973–74 season.
• Ranks among the all-time single season assist leaders in James Madison University program history. 
• Later Life and Legacy
  • Resided in the Pocomoke City area with his wife, Myrtle Marie Tindley Mills.
  • Predeceased his family members, including his son, Wilbert "Buddy" Mills Jr.
  • Honored posthumously through The Wilbert J. Mills, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supports local students.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office has received reports that several residents are receiving scam phone calls that appear to come from the Sheriff's Office's official phone number.

The caller falsely claims the victim missed Federal Jury Duty and now has a citation or warrant requiring them to pay several thousand dollars immediately.

THIS IS A SCAM!!!

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office will never call you to tell you that you missed jury duty, threaten you with arrest, or demand payment over the phone. Scammers can "spoof" phone numbers, making it appear that the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency—even when it is not.

If you receive a call like this:

• Hang up immediately.

• Do not provide any personal or financial information.

• Do not send money or purchase gift cards or cryptocurrency.

• If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Worcester County Sheriff's Office directly using a trusted phone number.
