I remember when Pocomoke Elementary burned. Mary Williams' father was custodian; he opened the door to the boiler room and quickly realized there was nothing he could do. He tripped the fire alarm and the rest was history. Apparently all those fire drills did pay off; it was an orderly and safe evacuation.
