Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Winter Rennick and John Powers Jr. on officially becoming Full Members of the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving our community have earned them this achievement, and we are proud to have them as part of our team.

We would also like to welcome our newest Probationary Member, Mickenzie Gould, to the department. We are excited to have Mickenzie join the company and begin her journey in the fire service.

Please help us congratulate and welcome these members as they continue their service to the citizens of Pocomoke City and the surrounding communities.

Pocomoke firemen confronted snowstorm havoc-

Beginning this past Sunday evening the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company maintained a volunteer staffed engine, rescue, command vehicle, and utility vehicle to serve during the course of the snowstorm.

By early Monday afternoon Pocomoke Fire Company personnel had responded to 17 calls for service, including assisting Accomack with a structure fire. The majority of incidents were storm-related, involving vehicles off the roadway, numerous trees and limbs down, downed power and utility lines, and assisting EMS.

Crews removed countless trees and limbs. Members also faced adverse and hazardous conditions, and in some cases, obstructions could not be safely removed.

Personnel remained standing by at the station, ready to respond to additional emergency calls.

A big thank you and congratulations to the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company!

 2026 Annual Banquet

On Saturday night, the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company held its annual banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of the department over the past year and to recognize members for their dedication, service, and sacrifice.

The Auxiliary recognized their members as well as Miss Fire Prevention Baylee Cowger, Little Miss Fire Prevention Levin Sterling, and Little Fire Chief Weston Tyler. The Auxiliary presented President Howard with a donation on behalf of the Auxiliary. 

Service awards were presented to Angel Bolding and Jimmy Englishmen for five years of service; Noah King for ten years; Dean Olsen and Mark Speta for twenty years; Travis Cowger for twenty-five years; Michael Shannon for thirty-five years; Danny Miles for forty-five years; and Rick Choquette and Michael Dean for an incredible fifty years of service.

In addition, Michael Shannon was named Firefighter of the Year; the Chief’s Award was presented to Josh Weichmann; and Winter Rennick was awarded Rookie of the Year. 

Firefighters Deyton Dean, Tommy Wall III, and Christian Martin, along with Officer Chris Barrs of the Pocomoke City Police Department were presented with awards for their heroic actions in rescuing a trapped occupant from a house fire prior to the fire department’s arrival—an outstanding example of courage, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our community.

The department also recognized its Top 15 Responders for the year: Larry Fykes, Mike Dean, Mike Shannon, Ryan Aydelotte, Dicky Gladding, Billy Sparrow, Travis Cowger, Paul Taylor, Bobby Ayres, Chris Henry, Josh Weichmann, Jerry Barbierri, Eric Denston, Marion Butler Jr., and Joseph Kamps.

We thank all of our members for their hard work, continued dedication, and countless hours of service throughout the year. We are also deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our community and to everyone who attended and helped make the evening a success.

Finally, we would like to thank the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company Inc for providing a stand-by crew so our members could enjoy an evening of fellowship.

Firemen quell Pocomoke home blaze.

On 12/15/24 at 12:52 pm, the PCVFC along with neighboring fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Walnut Street. Units arrived to find a 3-story home with smoke coming from the eaves of the house and fire showing from a second-floor window.

New emergency siren for Pocomoke

Our Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company's 2023 Boat & Cash Bash is Saturday, March 25th from 1-6pm at the fire company, 1410 Market Street,  doors  open  at  1230pm.

Grand prize is a 2022 184 Coastal Skiff with Trailer and 70hp Yamaha Motor provided by Scott's Cove Marina.

Cash prizes: 

$250 every 15 min, $1,000 at 530p.m.

Marking a big day in Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Company history

On September 4, 1939 our former firehouse on 5th Street was dedicated. The 5th Street Firehouse was state of the art and featured several apparatus bays, a recreation room, office, meeting room, hose tower, kitchen, and second floor dining hall. The dining hall later became famous with the Ladies Auxiliary’s Chicken and Dumpling Dinners.

In 1937, Chief Fred Henderson had been appointed by the Mayor and Council to seek a location for a new firehouse. This was after Chief Henderson expressed concerns to the City that the company had out-grown the Willow Street location that served as home since 1908 (formerly located behind the First National Bank, now a vacant lot). A location was selected on 5th Street between Market Street and Walnut Street and the project was taken on under the Works Progress Administration. The 5th Street Firehouse was the proud home to our organization from September 4, 1939 until April 26, 2008. On April 27, 2008 the PCVFC dedicated the new 16,500 square foot station located on Market Street.

For over 130 years, the volunteers of the PCVFC have continuously served the citizens of Pocomoke City and the surrounding areas. PCVFC is actively seeking new members to join our ranks. We have positions available for Firefighters, Auxiliary Members as well as Cadets. If you’re interested in joining our company, please contact us directly.

Around noon this past Saturday the fire company was alerted to provide a landing zone for the Maryland State Police - Aviation Command at Newtown Park. Pocomoke City Emergency Medical Services had a patient needing to be flown to a specialty center across the Chesapeake Bay.
