Active Death Investigation in Pocomoke City, MD

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. today, July 26, 2026, deputies with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office assisted the Pocomoke City Police Department in the search for a missing 4-year-old child.  (area of Laurel Street and Clarke Avenue)
The child was located, and despite life-saving efforts by law enforcement and EMS personnel, the child was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office’s County Bureau of Investigation has assumed responsibility for this active investigation. Based on this being an active investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.
We ask that you keep the child's family, loved ones, and all first responders involved in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Pocomoke City officials have invited members of the community to gather for a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. this evening (Sunday) at Cypress Park in support of the child's family, our first responders, and the entire Pocomoke City community. Those who wish to stand together in remembrance and show their support are encouraged to attend.

Today, our hearts are broken.

It is with profound sadness that I share the tragic news that the 4-year-old child who was the subject of today’s emergency search has been found deceased.

There are simply no words that can ease the pain of a loss like this. On behalf of the City of Pocomoke City, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the child’s family and loved ones. Our entire community grieves alongside you, and we ask everyone to keep this family lifted in prayer during this unimaginable time.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the Pocomoke City Police Department, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, our fire and EMS personnel, public works employees, neighboring agencies, volunteers, and every community member who responded so quickly and worked tirelessly in the search efforts. Your dedication, compassion, and selfless service exemplify the very best of our community.

Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, I ask everyone to refrain from speculation and allow law enforcement to complete their work. The greatest gift we can offer this family right now is our prayers, our love, and our respect for their privacy.

AMBER ALERT CANCELED

WILMINGTON, Del.- A 3-year-old boy has been located after he went missing from a Delaware home early Tuesday morning.

New Castle County Police have canceled an Amber Alert issued after reports were issued that the child was abducted at gunpoint.

The missing child, identified as Brian Kenney, was later found uninjured in Wilmington. He is currently being evaluated.

Stumbers (the childs mother) was taken into custody and is facing charges. The incident remains under investigation.

AMBER ALERT

WILMINGTON - Police in New Castle County have issued an Amber Alert after a 3-year-old was reportedly abducted from a Delaware home at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the Murray Manor Trailer Park on the 500 block of 6th Avenue at about 2:20 a.m. following reports of a child being abducted by three gunmen.

The child's 24-year-old father said he awoke to three males assaulting him with the butt of a handgun. He was knocked unconscious during the attack and when he arose, he discovered his son and the child's mother were missing.

The victim told police he believes the mother, 24-year-old Ashlie Stumbers, has full custody of his child and she may have played a role in the incident.

The missing child, identified as Brian Kenney, is said to be 3-foot-tall and weighs 45 pounds. He has blond hair, blue eyes and was last wearing blue and yellow pajamas with a print on the front.

Stumbers is said to be 5-foot-4, 135 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.
