The workshop is called Cancer: Thriving and Surviving. It runs for six weeks, starting Tuesday, September 29, and ending November 3, 2026.
Sessions will be held every Tuesday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The workshop will take place at MAC, located at 909 Progress Circle in Salisbury.
The program was developed by Stanford University. It is designed to give participants tools to handle the physical and emotional side of cancer.
The goal is to help people live healthier, more active lives while managing their diagnosis. Each week focuses on a different challenge that cancer patients and caregivers often face.
Topics will include sleep problems, pain, stress, and anxiety. Other sessions will cover living with uncertainty, emotions and depression, and changes to the body.
The workshop will also touch on healthy eating, exercise, and fatigue.
These are common struggles for both patients and the people caring for them.

MAC is the Area Agency on Aging for the Lower Eastern Shore. The organization works to help older adults live with dignity, independence, and good health.

Pocomoke City, Md.- The Pocomoke City Fairgrounds was issued Title 4 and Title 5 violations from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).
Mayor Todd Nock, along with city officials, held a council meeting (9/8), bringing up the fairgrounds in their agenda. The Mayor called for more organization and transparency in how the fairgrounds hosts their events.

Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Somerset County.
Maryland State Police say they were called to a home on Dividing Creek Road near Pocomoke City for a welfare check around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The area is near the Worcester-Somerset County line.
Troopers say they found an unresponsive woman, identified as Christine Wells, 67. Police also found Robert Dehart, 66, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Both died at the scene.
Investigators believe Wells and Dehart were previously in a relationship and Wells was acting as Dehart's Caretaker.
The drawbridge at Pocomoke City is scheduled to be closed to vehicular traffic for about two months beginning September 8th while a work project is in progress. Downtown Pocomoke will still be easily accessible with detour signs pointing the way and with no significant delays anticipated.

There are several upcoming State Highway Administration projects planned for Downtown Pocomoke City. Here’s what residents, businesses, and visitors need to know.
DOWNTOWN DRAWBRIDGE CLOSURE – BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 8
The US 13 Business drawbridge over the Pocomoke River is expected to close to vehicle traffic beginning September 8 for approximately 60 days while the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration completes cleaning and painting of the bridge.
The project is expected to be completed around November 8, weather permitting.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured using MD 364 (Market Street), US 13 (Ocean Highway), MD 250A (Old Virginia Road), and US 13 Business (Market Street). Detour signage will be posted to assist motorists.
The drawbridge will remain open during the project, allowing marine traffic to continue along the Pocomoke River.
ADA COMPLIANCE SIDEWALK UPGRADES
SHA is also planning pedestrian accessibility improvements along US 13 Business between the Pocomoke River and Front Street.
The project will reconstruct existing sidewalk ramps and construct new ramps at several locations near Vine Street and Front Street. These improvements will bring pedestrian access along this section of US 13 Business into compliance with State and Federal accessibility requirements.
Residents, businesses, and visitors should anticipate temporary changes to traffic patterns and pedestrian access as these projects move forward.
Downtown Pocomoke City businesses will remain accessible throughout these improvements. We encourage everyone to continue visiting, shopping, dining, and supporting our downtown businesses during construction.
