·Thursday night, members of the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Co. completed our monthly apparatus and equipment checks to ensure everything is ready and in proper working order when called upon.
Following truck checks, Captain Noah King led members through our monthly drill, focusing on forcible entry methods and techniques.
Regular training and equipment checks help ensure our members and apparatus are prepared when our community needs us most.

Before sharing those adorable first-day-of-school photos, take a moment to look at what’s in the picture and what you’re sharing.
A child’s name, teacher, grade, school, favorite things, sports, or other personal details may seem harmless on their own. But when combined, they can give someone with bad intentions more information than they should have.
Celebrate the milestone and share those special memories—but consider leaving the unique details off social media. When possible, share those moments privately with family and friends instead.
Think before you post. Protect what matters most. 💙
With the school year getting into full swing over the next week and a half, we will be taking a break from our Ask Us Anything neighborhood walks until spring.
We want to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to talk with us during our walks. We have appreciated the conversations, questions, ideas, and feedback you've shared with us. These conversations are exactly why we started this initiative.
Even though the walks are taking a break, we still want to hear from you!

A little over a month ago, Chief Rudy Hancock announced his retirement, with his final day being August 31. As we prepare for this transition, the application for Pocomoke City’s next Chief of Police is now available online.
We are still in the early stages of the process. Applications are still being accepted, and no applications have been reviewed at this time. In the meantime, we want to hear from you: What qualities, priorities, and leadership style do you want to see in our next Police Chief?
I plan to recommend to the City Council that, once the field is narrowed, we provide an opportunity for the public to hear from at least the final three candidates before a final selection is made.
With Chief Hancock’s retirement approaching, we will also need to name an Interim Chief to provide continuity while the search continues.

..... I convened a regional conversation (Friday, Aug. 7) focused on youth violence, public safety, prevention, accountability, and the future of our young people. This meeting came directly from the open letter I sent following the recent shooting of a 15-year-old in our community, and I was encouraged by the response. Every elected official addressed in my letter either personally participated or sent representation from their office, with the exception of Delegate Kevin Anderson.

Preliminary work is underway for intersection improvements at Route 13 and Stockton Road in Pocomoke City. MDOT officials say this project will begin in earnest next week and includes:
Work will be done between 9 and 3pm Monday through Friday and drivers should expect single-lane closures and traffic cones and arrow boards. Also expect traffic to be impacted with delays during work hours.
Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
(The Maryland Department of Transportation places the cost of the project at just over 450-thousand dollars.)
