Special session approves masks optional for Somerset students

WESTOVER, Md. – The Somerset Board of Education convened in a special closed session meeting on Thursday, to discuss confidential legal matters and to decide if masks will be required for the upcoming school year.

When reconvened in open session, Board Chairperson Penny Nicholson said that the Somerset Board of Education unanimously approved the Masking Policy, which makes masks optional for all students and staff effective immediately.

The new board policy will be posted to the Somerset County Public Schools website on Tuesday, September 7th for public viewing. Comments can be sent to the Somerset Board of Education at boardmeeting@somerset.k12.md.us .

Masks required in Virginia Public Schools

RICHMOND, Va. – Governor Ralph Northam announced on Thursday a Public Health Emergency Order requiring universal masking in all indoor settings in K-12 schools statewide.

SOMERSET COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ENCOURAGES MASKING

Westover, Md. –  The Somerset County Health Department is strongly encouraging county residents to wear a mask indoors in public settings and in situations where physical distancing cannot be maintained, regardless of vaccination status.

MD, DEL, VA, Covid-19 Mandates to be ending

 

State Of Emergency mandates brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic will soon be ending on Delmarva. Mandates from state government will no longer be in effect beginning July 1st in Maryland and Virginia, and July 13th in Delaware.

I find it strange that public officials can predict that the pandemic will suddenly stop being a threat 14 days in the future in Maryland but it will rage on for another two weeks in Delaware.

Mask mandate ending


Governor Larry Hogan announced Friday afternoon that the mask mandate is ending in Maryland with the exception of healthcare settings, schools, and public transportation. It is highly recommended that those who have not been fully vaccinated continue to wear masks.

Virginia is also ending mask requirements now and Delaware is following suit on May 21st.
