Saturday Rain or Shine Events!

 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH
11am-2pm

Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company2023 Open House & 1923 American LaFrance 100th Birthday

This event is RAIN OR SHINE!  Most of our displays & exhibits are indoors.

The car show will be called on Friday. In the event of a cancelation due to rain, the car show will be rescheduled.

The Chicken BBQ has been rescheduled for Saturday October 21st with dinners serving at 11am. We are still planning to offer food & drinks at the open house on the 14th.

Instead of a fire extinguisher prop - the fire marshal's office will have their fire safety trailer available for us (it will be indoors)

We will make a determination on pumping the 1923 on the day of the event based on conditions.

New Chamber Program, Merit Award

The Pocomoke Area Chamber of Commerce recently instituted the Merit Award program in which owners of improved properties, both residences and commercial, would be recognized publicly for their outstanding efforts. Improvements can include exterior renovations, rehabilitation, general clean up, landscaping, or really any activity that improves the property and the neighborhood.

Nominations are accepted at the Chamber Office at any time and we are currently working on a digital form with link to make this process a bit easier. For now, nominations can be sent to pocomokechamber@gmail.com at any time. Before and after photographs are appreciated.

Our first winning nomination of this award goes to Israel Buenrostro Alvarez and Jose Erick Chavez with the property address of 424 Bank Street, Pocomoke City, MD.  This property's before and after shots are pictured here.

This house was considered a long term abandoned dwelling and was purchased by the owners in 2022. Renovations included a complete gutting of the interior with substantial framing.

A Merit Award sign will be placed on the property for a period of time to recognize the transformation and the owners for their extensive efforts.  Congratulations to Israel Alvarez and Jose Erick Chavez!

We think that you will agree, we all benefit from the improvement of properties in our town.

Electricity for Smith and Tangier Islands

The following news items bring attention that providing and updating electrical service to Smith and Tangier Islands is an ongoing endeavor.

The first item below is from today's Shore Daily News.

The second is a news story from 1947 that, coincidentally, we had just come across this past weekend while researching archives for our weekly Pocomoke Public Eye "Time Machine" feature.
