Pocomoke has a historic district?
That reminds me of the time City Council was asked to fund conversion of Duncan Brother building into the Discovery Center. Barbara Tull said she needed $25,000 to fix the roof on the existing building to which Councilman Joe Jackson replied, "The whole damn building isn't worth $25,000!"
One of the more historic buildings in Pocomoke is the railroad station but it was left to wrack and ruin so it's hard for me to have any sympathy for anything on Second Street being called historic.

"Carlos Ayala, 52, was formerly listed as an employee at Perdue Farms in Salisbury. In 2019, he was moved to the role of Vice President of New Business Ventures, according to an archived version of Perdue’s website.
When WBOC reached out to Perdue to confirm Ayala was an employee, a Perdue spokesperson said Ayala had resigned in May of 2021. WBOC also asked about the allegations against and arrest of Ayala, but were told it was a personal family matter."

PUBLIC NOTICE of MUNICIPAL ELECTION CANDIDACY FILING DEADLINE
The deadline to file as a candidate for this year’s municipal election in Pocomoke City will be at 4:30p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024. Candidates for City Councilmember Districts 4 and District 5 must file in person with the City Clerk at City Hall, 101 Clarke Ave, Pocomoke City, MD. The fee for filing for the office of Councilmember is $25.00. A City Councilmember candidate must be at least 21 years of age, a registered voter of the County and a resident of the District of which they will represent for at least one (1) year immediately preceding their election. The successful candidates will take office on April 9th, 2024 and serve for a four (4) year term. The election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2020. The last day to register to vote in this year’s election will be Monday, March 4, 2024.

Worcester County Public Schools will open one-hour late Thursday, January 11, 2024, due to continued flooding in areas. Buses will operate accordingly, and all school programs will begin following the delay.
Somerset County Public Schools
Schools will be closed for an asynchronous virtual school day Thursday, January 11, 2024. Essential & 12 month staff should report to their buildings by 8:30 AM.

Time Machine: 100 years ago this week in Pocomoke's newspaper; 1990 mystery and concern; Pocomoke in the 1970's.

Mystery and concern.
It was 24-years ago in early January that the discovery of powerful homemade, but sophisticated, explosive devices in a ditch near Princess Anne created large concern for local, state, and federal authorities.
Was there an intended target for these explosives?

It was unclear how the materials were placed in the roadside ditch or to whom they belonged, officials said. They said it was too early to determine if the homemade bombs found in the chests could be linked to the Dec. 22 bombing of a state judge in Hagerstown, Md., or to bombings in the Southeast that killed an Alabama federal appeals court judge and a Georgia alderman.
In searching newspaper archives the last reference we could find regarding this incident was about six weeks later in which reference was made that the investigation was continuing.
