Let me tell you about used cars. Sometime around 1960 Winnie
Williams and Toby Hallett came to town and decoded they wanted to get into the automobile business. Somehow, they ended up talking to C.K. Duncan of Duncan Brothers fame.

Winnie and Toby were angling to buy the dealership outright but Mr. Duncan was hemming and hawing and just wasn't sure. One day the three of them took a ride out Dividing Creek Road to Mr. Duncan's farm where he had literally hundreds upon hundreds of used cars stockpiled, hoping for an automobile shortage so he could make lots of money. Finally, C.K. says, "Well I guess we probably won't have another war anytime soon, so I guess I might as well sell the whole thing." And that is how the Midway General Motors dealership came to be, and the rest is history.

Your friend,
Slim
(Slim- was reference above to C.K. or Lynwood? tk)

Now that you mention it, I do believe it was Lynwood that Toby and Winnie were negotiating with. Obviously, I was not there for the conversation, but this is how it was told to me by Winnie.

Slim- I wasn't aware that CK was involved in the dealership, but you would know more than me about it.

Below is from a 1963 newspaper ad:

(In later years Winnie was imaged as "General Winnie.")

Your friend,
Slim

Pocomoke Publlic Eye:  Yes, that is Bill Burton.. Outdoor Editor of The Sunpapers.
On the left was a well-known Pocomoke businessman whose son carries on the business today at the same Market Street location.  On the right was the owner of a motel that was just south of Pocomoke.
