The MPSSAA's Class 1A Field Hockey State Championship is headed back home to Pocomoke City, as the Pocomoke Warriors won the state championship Saturday afternoon, their second in a row.
The Warriors clinched the back-to-back state championship with a 5-1 win over South Carroll at Stevenson University, dominating the second half en route to their win.
The game was tied 1-1 at half, with the Warriors' lone goal coming from Marli McDorman. But the second half was all Pocomoke, as they scored four goals unanswered, with two of them coming from McDorman to complete the hat trick. And Dakota Trader would put the finishing touches on their championship victory, adding two more goals of her own.
Along with the Warriors winning back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022, this is also the 21st state title in program history, continuing the Pocomoke field hockey dynasty. They rank second all-time in Maryland in total state titles, behind only Severna Park.
