Heavy Snowing To Continue


The heavy snow that started early Sunday morning continues to fall as it begins to pile up.


As of noon, almost 6 inches had fallen and we may see as much as 4 to6 inches more before it all ends overnight.


VDOT is working the main roads including Rt. 13, The Chincoteague Road and the roads leading into the main towns on the Eastern Shore.


The back roads however are unplowed and increasing winds this afternoon and evening as the low pressure moves past could result in serious drifting before morning.


Therefore Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect until 5 AM Monday. Church services were cancelled both Sunday and Sunday evening as motorists were advised to stay off the roads as much as possible.

The Dialysis Center in Nassawadox has closed for the day and they're advising their patients to call Monday morning at 7:30 for a treatment time. They're also asking individuals with big trucks willint to transport patients to and from the Dialysis center to call 442-4966.

Closings for Monday include Mosher Physical, both offices, Accomack Convenience Centers closed til noon, and Cardiac Rehab in Onley and Nassawadox, closed.

Accident On Eastern Shore Kills One


ACCOMACK, Va. - Police are investigating a deadly accident on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.


The accident happened around 2:08 am on June 16 on Rt. 13 just south of Rt. 677.


Police say there was a head-on collision between a Subaru and a Toyota Tacoma.


Subaru passenger, John R. Lutz Jr. of Hazeltown, Pennyslvania died on the scene. He was 32 years old.


Subaru driver, Brooke Evans, is being charged with reckless driving.

MISSING: Temperanceville Resident John Benjamin Thornton Still Missing

UPDATE: As of Thursday afternoon Accomack County Sheriff's Department has conducted a search of the surrounding areas and has found no trace of Thornton.






The Accomack County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in locating John Benjamin Thornton, III of Temperanceville, Virginia. Thornton was last seen around
3:00 a.m. on Monday January 11, 2010 by his girlfriend.

Thornton is 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches tall with blue eyes and fair reddish complextion. He was last seen wearing light blue jeans, white tennis shoes,a red shirt with black and white on it, long johns, also a dark colored t-shirt. Thornton sometimes wears glasses.

The Accomack County Sheriff's Department conducted searches on Monday and Tuesday but were unable to find any trace of the missing man.

Searching For Temperanceville Man

Law enforcement officials have been searching since Monday for a 55 year old man by the name of John Benjamin Thornton III. He was reported missing around noon on Monday by his girlfriend. According to Accomack County Sheriff Larry Giddens, Thornton's vehicle remained at the house and he did leave a note but did not disclose his whereabouts.

On Monday afternoon and Tuesday sheriff's deputies along with Flatland Search and Rescue team conducted a search of the woods near Thornton's house which is located near Tyson's Foods on U.S. Route 13. On Tuesday a plane from the Virginia Marine Resources Comission helped in the search.

Thornton is a white male, 55 years of age. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a fair reddish complexion.
