5 p.m. UPDATE: Virginia State Police say one person was killed and a second was injured in Thursday’s crash.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2007 Dodge Nitro, driven by 61-year-old Veronica Milboune, was traveling north on Route 13 when she failed to yield to the traffic signal at the intersection with Route 175, hitting a 2020 Chevrolet Impala. Police say the Impala, driven by 66-year-old Sheryl Lewis, had the right of way.
At the time of the incident, Lewis suffered serious injuries, as well as her 15-year-old passenger. Lewis later died from her injuries at the scene, and her passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. Notification has been made to next of kin and family members.
Milboune suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police say charges are forthcoming.
