A Quarter of Remembrance

By Mike Cope

I actually got to meet Dr. Channing Barrett, though I don't remember the meeting because I was too young. But that doesn't change my picture of him as a young man walking a marathon of miles every weekend. In my mind, I see him returning home to Blissfield, Michigan around the turn of the century.

Channing Barrett was one of eight boys and was the first ever in the Barrett family to go to college. From his medical school, he walked twenty-five miles home each weekend, always returning a couple days later with clean clothes, a food packet, and a dollar. That dollar might have been a bill, but in my mind it was four quarters.

Dr. Barrett became one of the first ob-gyn's in Chicago, practicing at Cook County Hospital. He was known widely both for his innovative surgical techniques and for his ambidextrous skills that allowed him to change hands during long procedures. There was no patient whom he wouldn't accept. He delivered many "tenement babies" for fifty cents and many babies for the wives of Mafia dons for a good bit more!

With a growing, respected medical practice, a wonderful wife, and three children, this young physician seemed to be living the idyllic life. He enjoyed riding horses and lifting weights, and was an early member of the Polar Bear Society-that "unique" group that takes to the chilly waters of Lake Michigan in January each year to prove -- well, who knows what they're trying to prove?

And then World War I interrupted this Norman Rockwell life. Dr. Barrett left Chicago to run a field hospital in France, followed shortly by his 17-year-old son, who fought in the trenches.

As long as he could, Barrett sent money back to his wife and daughters. But by the last year of the war, his funds were nearly exhausted. He had no more to mail home. Mrs. Barrett sold most of what they owned, trying desperately to keep her daughters fed and clothed without having to lose their house.

By the time Christmas rolled around in 1918, there were no presents to place under the tree. They were lucky to have a place to live.

But Mrs. Barrett had managed, despite all the financial scrimping, to save two quarters. So on Christmas morning, when the girls emptied their stockings, under the paper dolls their mother had cut out for them and under a couple pieces of candy, they each found a coin.

Previous Christmas mornings had been more lavish, filled with frilly dresses and expensive toys. And there would be more such mornings in the future. But this was the Christmas the family would always remember.

In the future, even during the years of plenty, when the girls emptied their stockings, they always found -- under the apples, oranges, nuts, and candy -- a quarter.

It was a reminder -- a reminder that some years are good while others aren't too good. Some years deliver new babies, promotions, raises, and great promises. Other years offer sickness, failure, death, and deep disappointment.

The quarter reminded them about both possibilities. It warned them not to write off all the pain of the past as if it didn't exist. It taught them that the sorrows and wounds of their lives had shaped their characters as much as their joys and accomplishments.

Anyone who takes seriously the Christmas stories of Scripture knows that the first Christmas had more than angels, shepherds, wise men, and a mother nursing her baby. There was also the anguish of childbirth. There were the pungent, impolite odors of an animal pen. There was an old man who held the baby and told his mother, "A sword will pierce your own soul too." There were the voices of many mothers screaming for their baby boys being slaughtered by a demented ruler named Herod. There was a breathless escape to Egypt.

The entrance of God's Son into the world meant peace -- but it didn't assure that people would get along. It meant great joy -- but it didn't mean we'd always get to grin. And it meant unconditional love – though it never implied that everyone would act lovingly.

And so one family, year after year, continued dropping a quarter of remembrance into the bottom of each child's stocking.

At least one of Channing Barrett's children picked up that tradition. Every year through the '30s, '40s, and '50s, her five children, Dr. Barrett's grandchildren, pulled their stockings off the chimney on Christmas morning to find quarters buried under fruit, nuts, and candy.

It's the message of Christmas!

The quarter has mysteriously tied this family together -- binding even generations who never met. Together they have remembered that bad year in 1918 and other bad years since.

* One year brought the safe birth of a new nephew; another brought
the self-inflicted death of a relative who couldn't keep fighting
the demons of his life.

* One year brought the thrilling news from the gynecologist that a
baby was on the way; another brought the news from the pediatrician
that the baby wasn't developing right.

* Some years brought joy; others brought deep, deep pain.

The quarter is a remembrance that the meaning of Christmas is deeper than our triumphs and sorrows. It is a joy that can't fully be expressed, a peace that passes understanding.

For years my children have followed this tradition started by their Great, Great Grandmother Barrett. Together, we've experienced the love of God, woven through the fabric of good days and dark days.

But by God's grace we will survive. We're still together, we still love, we still hope, we still believe in that one who was born in Bethlehem. That's the message of our quarter.

And even more, it's the message of Christmas!

Truer words have never been spoken...

HOW SAD BUT TRUE

Friends & Associates,

Please meet Dr Starner Jones from Jackson, Mississippi. [see photo below]. His short 2-paragraph letter to the White House accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis". Its worth a quick read:

Starner Jones, MD
I am a seventh generation Mississippian and wanted to come back here after going somewhere else for college and medical school.. My extracurricular interests are golf, hunting, fishing and college football.

Dear Sirs:

"During my last night's shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with an expensive shiny gold tooth, multiple elaborate expensive tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone.. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer.

And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman's health care? Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture, a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow. Don't you agree?

I feel for the people who need the help because of circumstances they cannot avoid, but for those Americans who are just plain lazy – I have no pity!

A comment worthy of a post.

A comment received on the Yes Virginia post that a lot of us grown-ups could learn from.

We asked our students, at The Studio School, NYC, to consider both Virginia O’Hanlon’s letter to The New York Sun and Francis Church’s response, and write their own answers to Virginia’s question.
Here are some of their essays.

Dear Virginia,

In this day and age it is very difficult to know what to believe in. If everyone is
telling you that there is no Santa Claus, you may feel pressured to agree with them.
Virginia, don’t go along with everyone else. Have your own opinions and beliefs! I
believe that there is a Santa Claus, not because someone has told me to, but because
I am a believer in things unseen. I believe in Santa Claus and mythical creatures and
I am not ashamed of that. If you only believe what you see, then you are missing a
whole world out there full of wonderful mystical mysteries. Believing is seeing and
using your imagination. Whether it is looking up at the sky and seeing a new shape
in the clouds or taking an empty space in your mind and seeing a close friend, even
Santa Claus.
Never stop believing in Santa Claus, Virginia, because if you do you will stop seeing
the magic in this world. Grown-ups have become skeptical and are missing all of the
wonderful unseen things in this world. Virginia, there is a Santa Claus - I see him in my
mind and believe in him in my heart.
Much love from your BIG friend,
Leila, age 13

Francis Church is saying that belief is something we all have, but that some of us
may not use it. In the part that he says, “You might get your papa to hire men to
watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did
not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove?” he is saying that some
children need to see, feel, or hear something to believe it’s there. I don’t. Mr. Church
means that Santa is not flesh, bones and blood, or the guy in a red suit. He is joy,
giving, love, peace and happiness.
To me, joy is feeling wind in my face; to me, giving is when I am given respect by an
other person or giving respect to someone else; to me love is being heard and cared
for; to me peace is being free to move and breathe; and to me happiness is being
close to someone and being able to love them. I hope Santa and Christmas live on
forever in the hearts of many people.
I think this editorial is important to people of all ages because it speaks of love,
poetry and hope as being stronger than any man alive.
Lucia, age 9

Dear Virginia,
I too believe in Santa Claus. Although I am at an age where most adolescents
start to become skeptical, I have avoided this as much as I can, and to me Santa
Claus is real.
What makes me believe in Santa Claus are the feelings of confidence and faith
that he gives me. I have confidence in my future, and faith in my abilities. Through
my laughter, joy, and belief in the unseen, he is real to me. That is what Mr. Church
is trying to convey, not only to you but to everyone of all ages. What would we all
do if there were no Santa Claus? He is a beacon that guides us to our bliss and
laughter at Christmas time.
Believe in things you can’t see. It’s great! It puts our imaginations to work,
it leads to discoveries, and most importantly, it may lead to jubilant thoughts!
The editorial response you received from Mr. Church is important because he
wants us all to know that belief plays a big role in our lives and that by believing
we all can be united as one.
So remember, Virginia, seeing isn’t always believing, but as long as your
feelings are passionate, your beliefs are real.
Neyanel, age 12

Yes, Virginia

Christmas Eve is almost here and this morning while trying to get things all prepared for the big holiday I came across this letter written by young Virginia O'Hanlon many years ago. It always amazes me that it's sentiment still holds true and I can remember hearing my father reading it to me for the very first time when I was a child. Ever since that first reading this letter gets read aloud every year on Christmas Eve.

May all of you have a wonderful Christmas that is filled with love and warm hearts and lots of smiles and hugs!

Please remember to say a prayer for our brave men and women in the military at home and abroad that will not be able to be with their families this Christmas.

Teacher Fired for Offering to Pray for Sick Pupil

Yet another indication of how bad it has gotten for the canary in the coalmine of moonbattery, Britain:

A Christian teacher fears she may never work again after she was sacked for offering to pray for a sick pupil.
Olive Jones, 54, said she had been made to feel like a criminal, and claimed that Christians were being persecuted due to 'political correctness'.
Mrs Jones, who taught children not well enough to attend school, said that after she raised the topic of prayer during a visit to a 12-year-old's house, the girl's mother lodged a complaint.
Just hours later, said Mrs Jones, her boss told her she would no longer be working for Oak Hill Short Stay School and Tuition Service, in Nailsea, Somerset.
She said managers had ruled her comments could be perceived as 'bullying'.

Liberals, accusing the Christians they oppress of bullying. At least they have a sense of humor — unless they are wall-bangingly insane enough to be on the level.

Closer to home, here's the story of a teacher who knows how to keep her job:

A third grader was told by a teacher at her New Jersey elementary school that the Bible was not appropriate reading material for quiet time, MyFoxNY.com reported.
The teacher at Madison Park Elementary School in Old Bridge, N.J., ordered the girl, Mariah, to put away her Bible.
Michelle Jordat, Mariah's mother, said her daughter was upset and confused by the incident, MyFoxNY.com reported.

No need to be confused, it's simple. The State will allow no gods before moonbattery.

Officer Draws Gun at Snowball Fight

Officer involved is on "non-contact" status

WASHINGTON - A veteran D.C. Police detective has been assigned to desk duty, his police powers revoked after video footage clearly shows him pulling a gun during a snowball fight.

Sources have identified the officer as Detective Michael Baylor, a man with more than 25 years on the force including at least ten on the homicide squad. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier called the detective’s actions ”totally inappropriate."

Detective Baylor was off duty driving his Hummer through the snow Saturday when police say his vehicle was hit by snowballs. Obviously enraged, you can see on the tape, the officer gets out of the car and pulls his gun.

As he’s standing next to the car talking on a two-way radio a snowball hits him in the head. The narrator on the video can be heard saying, "He's got a gun in his hand. He's driving a Hummer and people are throwing snowballs at him."

At one point, the crowd begins to chant, "Don't bring a gun to a snowball fight… Don’t bring a gun to a snowball fight."

Police initially said the detective didn’t pull his gun, but that was based on the first video they saw.

"With our training that we have on the Metropolitan Police Department, our training would not provide for you to pull your weapon during a snowball fight,” said Assistant Chief Peter Newsham in a news conference outside police headquarters. ”When you are using your weapon, it's for deadly force."

In a written statement, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier called Detective Baylor's actions “totally inappropriate.”

The confrontation with the crowd went on for quite some time. At one point, the detective can be seen pushing a man. Later, he rushes into the crowd, apparently after a man he believes hit him with a snowball.

"I think the way it's been portrayed and many have seen the video-- it does bring a negative light upon the Metropolitan Police Department," said Assistant Chief Newsham.

Police praised the officers who responded to the incident, saying their professional actions deescalated a tense situation.

Sources familiar with Chief Lanier’s thinking say she is leaning towards firing the officer.

Statement from Chief Cathy L. Lanier, (MPD) DC Police

As Chief of Police, I wanted to respond to the many messages received to our police listserv groups last night in reference to the off-duty police officer’s actions on last Saturday.

I have reviewed the video clips and heard from the public.
It is very obvious to me that the officer pulled his service weapon in response to the snowballs hitting his vehicle.
I have no doubt about this, nor has the officer denied the accusations.

Let me be very clear in stating that I believe the actions of the officer were totally inappropriate!
In no way, should he have handled the situation in this manner.

We have taken swift action by placing him on non-contact status until all the facts are gathered and discipline is handed down.

This officer’s conduct, in no way, reflects the training and the standards we hold each officer to at the Metropolitan Police Department.

During the course of this horrendous snow storm, our officers worked hard and made many significant arrests for drug and burglary crimes, as well as gun recoveries.

What is so disturbing is that, up until this incident, I had received several messages of thanks from the many people our officers assisted when their cars became disabled in the blizzard conditions.

So it does not sit well with me that the negative actions of one officer has become “viral” during a time when so many officers have done so much good.

I can assure you that we do take this matter very seriously and will handle it appropriately.

The video clips and the number of witnesses willing to come forward have proven a point I have reiterated, you are the additional eyes and ears in the community and your feedback in solving criminal complaints is crucial.
My office is receptive to this kind of information.

I encourage all residents to remain active in our fight against crime and to know that at MPD, we believe no one is above the law.

Boom’s Ultimate Turkey Brine

It's almost time to drop the bird in the Brine. If you have never tried this Brine it's awesome. The flavor and moisture it adds is unbelievable.

BRINE: ULTIMATE BRINE FOR TURKEY

1 1/2 cups, Kosher salt** **See notes below regarding amount of salt and types of salt
1 1/4 cups, brown sugar
10 whole cloves
3 teaspoons, black peppercorns
1 1/2 gallons (6 quarts) apple juice or cider (non-alcoholic)
the peel from one orange or one tangerine (colored part only – not white pith)
optional: 3 teaspoons, dried thyme and/or 3 teaspoons, dried sage

Combine all ingredients in a non-reactive pot, bring mixture to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes (partly covered). Allow brine to cool completely. Rinse turkey under cool running water, inside and out (remove giblets from body cavity).
Pat turkey dry with paper towels, then immerse turkey in cooled brine.* Turkey should be completely submerged in liquid (place a plate on top of the bird if necessary to keep it covered with the liquid). Cover the pot and refrigerate for 8-10 hours or up to 24 hours. Remove turkey, rinse, pat dry, and roast as usual.

*Be sure the container used for brining turkey is non-reactive: use enamel, glass or crockery or stainless steel – never cast iron or aluminum. The pot should be just large enough to contain the turkey (so the brine will be sufficient to cover the bird).

** NOTE REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF SALT IN BRINE: A milder brine may be made, which may have a less flavorful result – but if salt is a concern (the entire turkey will absorb only 10-15% of the brine) the amount of salt may be reduced. For the desired chemical effect to take place, however, the proportions cannot be less than 2/3 to 1 cup of salt per gallon (4 quarts) of water or other liquid.

**TYPES OF SALT: Kosher salt is the ONLY type of salt to be used in making brine (it is sweeter and more pure than ordinary table salt). Kosher salt is available in two varieties. The most common is flaked salt (example: Morton Kosher Salt) which has been pressed into flakes by rollers. The other type is a four-sided crystal (example: Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt). The crystal-shaped salt measures differently because of its shape. Use about 25% (one quarter) MORE crystal salt than flaked salt when measuring for brine or other recipes. The formula is: 1 tablespoon of regular table salt is equivalent to 1 ½ tablespoons flaked kosher salt, or 2 tablespoons, diamond crystal kosher salt.

How to recycle a snowman

I have acquired a picture sent in by a reader of a recycled snowman. YUP! A "recycled snowman" do to the lack of snow caused by "Boss Hogg's" "flying trash bag" ("UFO") that has been seen in the skies of Pocomoke some of the more astute readers decided to get the most out of our lack of winter white stuff.

The sender of the "recycled snowman" did not elaborate on what was "recycled" to build the recycled snowman but my hours of studying and scientific analysis of this "recycled snowman" I can only conclude that it's parts are made up of;

1) 3 heads of melted snowmen

2) an ear muff from a one eared person

3) the eyes appear to be pieces of "Boss Hogg's" flying trash bag it obviously crashed and was scavenged and put to good use.

4) The hat appears to be that of remnants left over after the tin-foil had worn off.

5) The puny little arms are made from a very rare evergreen that only grows in the garden of Eden. (just south of Salisbury)

6) The stray leaves that make-up the lower festive decorations were donated by the local chapter of leaves for recycled snowmen & women.

7) last but not least, and the most difficult to diagnose are the footprints around the "recycled snowman" They are prints left by moon boots, this is clearly an alien (extraterrestrial) built structure (recycled snowman) more than likely they were attracted by "Boss Hogg's" flying trash bag ("UFO") that was spotted in the skies of Pocomoke a couple days ago.

If anyone else has found a homeless "recycled snowman" that has suddenly appeared in close proximity of their home, approach it with caution but it should be harmless, send in your pictures for an analysis. So far it appears that these extraterrestrial built recycled snowmen are safe but please be careful and keep some distance at first sighting.

Democrat Congresscritter attacks free speech

Demonrat Congresscritter Alan Grayson has become a hero and idol to the far-left nutroots. They don't love him because he is a brilliant legislator (he's not), or because he proposes innovative policy solutions that meet the challenges of the 21st century (he doesn't). No, they love him because he's a loudmouth hack politician who gives voice to the deranged hatred they feel for all who disagree with them.

Grayson called Federal Reserve senior adviser Linda Robertson a whore (He must be taking lessons from Chuck Schumer). He has declared that Republicans want sick people to die quickly and compared the American health care system to the Holocaust and 9/11. He has referred to a disabled Marine as "white trash." (My mistake, that was Democrat Congressman Dennis Moore.)

Now, Crazy Al Grayson is angry because someone started a website called "Mycongressmanisnuts.com" in his honor. He has written a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding that the person who set up the site be criminally prosecuted.

Like most progressive leftists, Al Grayson can dish it out, but he can't take it.

"Boss Hogg" redirects winter storm with flying trash bag ("UFO") Pocomoke kids are pissed

"Boss Hogg's" flying trash bag ("UFO") ruins snow for children in Pocomoke while the "People of Pocomoke" turn a blind eye.

That's right you heard it here first, let it be known that a flying trash bag (actually a flying spy camera) has created a weather phenomenon over the skies of Pocomoke that held off the snow we were susposed to receive on Friday 12/18.

Weather forecasters and radar tracking were proof positive that we would accumulate snow up to and possibly over a foot here in the Pocomoke area, yet we only saw a small dusting.

It has been confirmed that a ("UFO") flying trash bag launched with a spy camera by Pocomoke's leader "Boss Hogg" had more of an effect than anticipated and actually caused the winter storm to unleash it's fury on surrounding areas while leaving Pocomoke clear of the wonderful white merical we call snow.

This has left the children of Pocomoke without the joy of snow Angels, sledding, building snowmen, and the classic snowball fights.

It's also reported that this flying trash bag ("UFO") was captured on film in the local area and has also had mental effects on those that studied it while they had no idea they were being surveyed by the flying trash bag. This is not of concern as 'negative' effects of the flying trash bag is not reported but yet to be seen.

So there you have it kids, It is the "people of Pocomoke" and "Boss Hogg's" fault that the first part of this winter storm (the first of the season) has bypassed Pocomoke.

Hopefully now that this flying trash bag has been spotted due to an astute local eye that "Boss Hogg" has aborted his project 'code name flying Pocomoke eye in the sky, AKA flying trash bag' and we may receive the trailing edge of the storm tonight and possibly get some snow for the children of Pocomoke to enjoy.

"It's Pocomoke" no snow for you.

Killer Tripped Up by His Own Baggy Pants

A career criminal massacred three members of a family in their apartment but fell to his death when he tripped over his own baggy pants.

The massacre occurred Thursday afternoon near a string of upscale shops on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Police said the attack apparently stemmed from botched drug ripoff.

"There is a significant amount of heroin found in the apartment," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told the Daily News.

Police said Hector Quinones, 44, shot and killed Carlos Rodriguez Sr., 52, and his 24-year-old son, Carlos Rodriguez Jr., then stabbed to death the younger Rodriguez's grandfather, Fernando Gonzalez, 87, according to reports in the Daily News and the New York Post.

The elder Rodriguez's wife, Gisela Rodriguez, 49, and her daughter, Leyanis, 28, walked in on the carnage. Quinones heard keys in the lock and opened the door for the women, police said.

He shot the mother, who was grazed on the head by a bullet but managed to run from the apartment. The killer was just about the grab the daughter when his low-slung pants fell down and he tripped, the Post said. That gave the young woman the chance to run into a back room, where she found the bodies of her brother and father.

Quinones yanked up his pants and scrambled after Leyanis Rodriguez, who climbed onto a fire escape, screaming for help to construction workers on the roof of a nearby building, the Post said. The attacker followed her onto the fire escape, but once again his drooping pants fell and he tripped, plunging three stories to his death.

Estella Carrino, who manages a street-level bicycle store in the building, said she heard the body hit the ground.

"He had no jacket on and his pants were down. He was very dead," she told the Daily News.

Medical Journal: Santa Needs to Clean Up His Act

Oh good-grief, enough with the liberal PC BS

With his portly belly and a fondness for a brandy-fuelled spin on the sleigh, Santa Claus is hardly the picture of health or safety.

Now his wild ways are catching up with him, with calls for a radical overhaul of his bad boy image. A study by Monash University public health expert Dr. Nathan Grills found Santa could be promoting obesity and speeding — and damaging millions of lives.

The childhood legend should be used to promote a healthy lifestyle, the study, published in the British Medical Journal, found.

It suggested Santa slim down by ditching the cookies, mince pies and milk, and snack instead on his reindeers' carrots and celery sticks. His reckless behavior could also encourage extreme sports such as roof surfing and chimney jumping — not to mention speeding.

At the very least he should buckle up or don a helmet, the study says.

"I wouldn't go as far as saying that Santa causes obesity — it's more about raising wider issues around advertising and public health," he said.

A study of American school kids shows Santa Claus is the only fictional character more highly recognized than Ronald McDonald.

The Racism of the Black Community

According to allies of President Obama, all opposition to Obama's policies is driven by racism. "We think all of it is!" shouts Gwen Dawkins, a Democratic "activist" from Michigan. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) explains that "As far as African-Americans are concerned, we think most of it is." Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) agrees, stating that "There's a very angry, small group of folks that just didn't like the fact that Barack Obama won the presidency. With some, I think it is [about race]." As Jimmy Carter famously stated, "I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American."

Apparently, racism must be spreading like wildfire. According to a Gallup poll released this week, only 47 percent of Americans now approve of President Obama's job performance. Only 42 percent of independents approve. In the white community, according to a Nov. 24 Gallup poll, his approval rating has slipped from 61 percent in January to 39 percent. In the black community, his support has actually increased, from 90 percent to 91 percent.

The fact is that it isn't the racism of the white community that explains President Obama's plummeting job approval -- the skyrocketing deficit, unemployment rate and inflation take care of that.

It's the racism of the black community that explains his approval rating's continued buoyancy.

How can blacks truly approve of Obama more highly than they did when he was elected? The black unemployment rate is 15.6 percent today, as opposed to 11.9 percent in December 2008, over 50 percent higher than the white unemployment rate. There is no rhyme or reason to the continued support for a man who has driven the economy off the rails.

But there is racism.

President Obama fulfills the three requirements to receive the approval of the black community: he is black; he is not currently having sex with a white woman; and he is liberal. And he receives the lifelong and unwavering loyalty of the black community for it.

By contrast, the black community hates another prominent half-black man. This half-black man happens to be a political independent who has sex with white women. His name is Tiger Woods.

Just listen to the black community's evisceration of Woods. Tom Joyner, a syndicated black radio host, ran a parody suggesting, "Thankfully, Tiger, you didn't marry a black woman. Because if a sister caught you running around with a bunch of white hoochie-mamas." Then there's Denene Millner, author of books on black relationships, who writes, "Why is it when they get to this level … they tend to go directly for the nearest blonde?"

There seems to be less consternation in the black community about the fact that Woods cheated on his wife than the fact that his wife is white and his mistresses are white. Nobody in the black community has claimed that Shawn Kemp, the former NBA star who famously sired seven children out of wedlock, is a racial sellout. But according to the Associate Press, 26-year-old black woman Ebonie Johnson Cooper says that Tiger, who has so far fathered zero children out of wedlock, is "quote-unquote not really black." That's because "we still see [Tiger] as a black man with a white woman, and it makes a difference."

Not coincidentally, Cooper explains, "Had Barack had a white wife, I would have thought twice about voting for him."

This is a country still torn apart by racial tensions. But those tensions largely spring from the black community these days, not from the white community. It is approval for President Obama that evidences greater racial animosity these days than opposition to President Obama's policies.

This bill was introduced on February 24, 2009, by the Obama staff. BUT, this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law becomes effective! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee has passed this without the Senate voting on it at all. Trust Obama? You must be kidding!
The full text of the IRS amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage: U.S. Senate. You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099. You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know.
Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009: Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - U.S.... OpenCongress
Obama's Congress is now starting on the firearms confiscation bill. If it passes, gun owners will become criminals if you don't fully comply.

It has begun... Whatever Obama's "Secret Master Plan" is... this is just the 'tip of the iceberg!'

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.

Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because the government is trying to fly it under the radar as a 'minor' IRS revision, and, as usual, the 'political' lawmakers did not read this bill before signing and approving it!

To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Goggle HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless: 1) It is registered 2) You are fingerprinted 3) You supply a current Driver's License 4) You supply your Social Security number 5) You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing.

Each update change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25. Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18. They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 years in prison.

If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this.. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family pass this along.

This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.

This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not..

Tennessee Boy, 4, Found Near Home With Stolen Presents, Drinking Beer

Tennessee investigators say a 4-year-old boy was found roaming his neighborhood in the night, drinking beer and wearing a little girl's dress taken from under a neighbor's Christmas tree.

The child's mother, 21-year-old April Wright, tells WTVC-TV the boy "wants to go to jail because that's where his daddy is." Wright says she and the boy's father are going though a divorce.

The boy, found outside his house in Chatanooga on Tuesday, was taken to a hospital and treated for alcohol consumption.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Janice Atkinson says the incident is being investigated but the department declined to release the report.

The boy's mother says she met with child protective services and was told she will get to keep custody of her son.

Boy Scout Returns Purse Containing $2,000

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 16) -- An 11-year-old North Carolina boy has found and returned a stolen purse with nearly $2,000 inside.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that Edward Myers and his siblings were helping neighbors plant trees in a Greensboro park when he spotted a purse on the creek bank.

The Boy Scout and his mother called the police, and the purse's owner showed up to collect.

The owner told police her car was broken into on Thanksgiving. Police say the thief took $30 out of the main billfold but missed $1,900 in another compartment before flinging the purse into the creek.

The owner rewarded Edward with one of the $100 bills. He gave $40 of it to his mother and spent the other $60 on a Carolina Panthers jersey.

More Country Art Work

Seems like everyone is trying to jump into the scene of claiming to have "the Tiger by the tail".

Please do your part and speak out to your members of Congress today:

The US Senate will be voting again in the next few days on the pending health care "reform" bill and, despite what you may hear, little has changed.

The bottom line is that we are still looking at a government takeover of an estimated one-sixth of the US economy.

We still have no prohibition of any of your tax-dollars being used to fund abortions under the bill.

We still have no legal protections for the religious convictions of doctors and nurses who would refuse to participate in abortions or euthanasia.

We know that it creates a huge bureaucracy with over a hundred new federal boards and commissions that will make decisions about our health care.

We know that it will add untold amounts to our national debt.

And we know that it does nothing to provide more choice for consumers or eliminate the junk lawsuits that drive up our health care costs.

To put it simply, we must stop the bill.

Time is growing short, but we can still be heard.

Please do your part and speak out to your members of Congress today:

Also, please be sure to visit our Health Care Action Center and get other key facts and information to stay informed throughout the ongoing debate.

It is critical that conservatives stand together and let our elected officials feel the heat on this issue!

Google Street View Captures Public Defecation on H Street

Props to Frozen Tropics for sharing this Google Street View image of a man who appears to be trying to take a dump on a busy sidewalk in the 500 block of H Street NE. "WOW" is right.

There are several remarkable things about this image: 1) that it was captured by Google's Street View team in such clarity; 2) that it's the middle of the day, in absolutely plain view, and 3) that there are five other people strolling by like it's no big thing. Do we really live in a city where the sight of a grown man squatting on the sidewalk with his pants down around his ankles is zero cause for concern?

First-Grade Teacher Cuts Off Student's Braid

Milwaukee first grader Lamya Cammon was told by her teacher to stop playing with her hair. When she kept doing it, the teacher cut off the 7-year-old's braid.

The little girl told Milwaukee's News12 that the teacher, whose name was not revealed in the report, called her over to the desk, said that she was going to give her candy, then cut the braid and threw it in the trash while the entire class watched and laughed. Lamya went back to her desk in tears. She says that the teacher asked her, "'Now what you gonna go home and say to your momma?,'" to which she sensibly replied, "'That you cut off my hair,'" according to News12.
At the start of the news report, the anchor says that the story is also about, "the growing concern over teacher stress." Lamya's mother, Helen Cunningham, told News12 that the teacher apologized when confronted, and explained her actions by saying that she was "frustrated." A News12 reporter spoke to an expert who agreed that teacher stress was a problem.

Although the local school district would not comment on the specifics of the case, an apology was given.

The News12 report says that the District Attorney has decided not to press charges, but police did issue a $175 fine for Disorderly Conduct.

What would you do if this happened to your child?

ABC News Big Mistake

STAND BY YOUR GOD !
Jim Neugent A Coach In Childress , Texas Writes To ABC Network Jim Writes: My name is Jim Neugent. I wrote to ABC (on-line) concerning a program called 'THE PRACTICE.' In last nights episode, one of the lawyer's mothers decided she is gay and wanted her son to go to court and help her get a marriage license so she could marry her 'partner.'

I sent the following letter to ABC yesterday and really did not expect a reply, but I did get one..

My original message was: ABC is obsessed with the subject of homosexuality. I will no longer watch any of your attempts to convince the world that homosexuality is OK.

' THE PRACTICE' can be a fairly good show, but last night's program was so typical of your agenda. You picked the 'dufus' of the office to be the one who was against the idea of his mother being gay, and made him look like a whiner because he had convictions.

This type of mentality calls people like me a 'gay basher.' Read the first chapter of Romans (that's in the Bible); and see what the apostle Paul had to say about it..... He, God and Jesus were all 'gay bashers'. What if she'd fallen in love with her cocker spaniel? Is that an alternative life style? (By the way, the Bible speaks against that, too..)

Jim Neugent
Here is ABC's reply from the ABC on-line webmaster:

How about getting your nose out of the Bible (which is ONLY a book of stories compiled by MANY different writers hundreds of years ago) and read the declaration of independence (what our nation is built on), where it says 'All Men are Created equal,' and try treating them that way for a change!

Or better yet, try thinking for yourself and stop using an archaic book of stories as your lame crutch for your existence. You are in the minority in this country, and your boycott will not affect us at ABC or our freedom of statement.

Jim Neugent's second response to ABC:
Thanks for your reply. From your harsh reply, evidently I hit a nerve.. I will share it with all with whom I come in contact. Hopefully, the Arkansas Democrat Newspaper will include it in one of their columns and I will be praying for you.

- -Jim Neugent- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Note: Wouldn't Satan just love it if people stopped using the Bible for a crutch?

Jim Neugent

I wonder if the person from ABC considered how many people would eventually read this! Please, if you are a Christian, pass this on to others so they may be aware. WE NEED TO SAVE WHAT WE HAVE LEFT OF THIS COUNTRY

Our Overpaid Military

SHAMEFUL HOW WE TREAT OUR SERVICE MEN/WOMEN AND FAMILIES
CINDY WILLIAMS was appointed by Obama as an Assistant Director for NATIONAL SECURITY in the Congressional Budget Office..... Military Pay

This is an Airman's response to Cindy Williams' editorial piece in the Washington Times about MILITARY PAY, it should be printed in all newspapers across America. Ms. Cindy William wrote a piece for the Washington Times denouncing the pay raise(s) coming service members' way this year citing that she stated a 13% wage increase was more than they deserve.

A young airman from Hill AFB responds to her article below.. He ought to get a bonus for this. "Ms Williams: I just had the pleasure of reading your column, "Our GI's earn enough" and I am a bit confused. Frankly, I'm wondering where this vaunted overpayment is going, because as far as I can tell, it disappears every month between DFAS (The Defense Finance and Accounting Service) and my bank account. Checking my latest earnings statement I see that I make $1,117.80 before taxes per month. After taxes, I take home $874.20. When I run that through the calculator, I come up with an annual salary of $13,413.60 before taxes, and $10,490.40 after.

I work in the Air Force Network Control Center where I am part of the team responsible for a 5,000 host computer network. I am involved with infrastructure segments, specifically with Cisco Systems equipment. A quick check under jobs for "Network Technicians" in the Washington, D.C. area reveals a position in my career field, requiring three years experience in my job. Amazingly, this job does NOT pay $13,413..60 a year. No, this job is being offered at $70,000 to $80,000 per annum............. I'm sure you can draw the obvious conclusions.

Given the tenor of your column, I would assume that you NEVER had the pleasure of serving your country in her armed forces. Before you take it upon yourself to once more castigate congressional and DOD leadership for attempting to get the families in the military's lowest pay brackets off of WIC and food stamps, I suggest that you join a group of deploying soldiers headed for AFGHANISTAN; I leave the choice of service branch up to you. Whatever choice you make though, opt for the SIX month rotation: it will guarantee you the longest possible time away from your family and friends, thus giving you full "deployment experience."

As your group prepares to board the plane, make sure to note the spouses and children who are saying good-bye to their loved ones. Also take care to note that several families are still unsure of how they'll be able to make ends meet while the primary breadwinner is gone. Obviously they've been squandering the "vast" piles of cash the government has been giving them.

Try to deploy over a major holiday; Christmas and Thanksgiving are perennial favorites. And when you're actually over there, sitting in a foxhole, shivering against the cold desert night, and the flight sergeant tells you that there aren't enough people on shift to relieve you for chow, remember this: trade whatever MRE's (meal-ready-to-eat) you manage to get for the tuna noodle casserole or cheese tortellini, and add Tabasco to everything. This gives some flavor.

Talk to your loved ones as often as you are permitted; it won't be nearly long enough or often enough, but take what you can get and be thankful for it. You may have picked up on the fact that I disagree with most of the points you present in your open piece.

But, tomorrow from KABUL, I will defend to the death your right to say it.

You see, I am an American fighting man, a guarantor of your First Amendment right and every other right you cherish...On a daily basis, my brother and sister soldiers worldwide ensure that you and people like you can thumb your collective noses at us, all on a salary that is nothing short of pitiful and under conditions that would make most people cringe. We hemorrhage our best and brightest into the private sector because we can't offer the stability and pay of civilian companies.

And you, Ms. Williams, have the gall to say that we make more than we deserve?

Pocomoke Detective (Scott Mitchell) allegedly botches sex offender case

Today the Daily Times has an article about Detective Scott Mitchell allegedly protecting a local child sex offender.

There has been many twist to this story thrown around without all the facts.

Personally I cannot and will not judge until I know the total truth but lets take the Daily Times article that I would assume is the closes to the facts.

POCOMOKE CITY -- A former Pocomoke police officer has been accused of lying about his investigation of a child sex abuse case after a state's attorney's probe showed he failed to press charges against a suspect even after months of prodding.

Sgt. Scott Mitchell was asked six times to charge a 15-year-old boy with the sexual assault of a minor, according to the report. Each time, the report says, Mitchell "failed or refused to charge" the boy, despite evidence that had been reviewed by the officer, Social Services and prosecutors.

Who asked the officer to "to charge a 15-year-old boy" and after the charges were not filed why didn't they step up and charge them?

The internal report was obtained after The Daily Times invoked the Public Information Act in requesting it from the Office of the State's Attorney in Worcester County. Public court filings in another case mention the internal report in explaining why Mitchell will not be testifying in that case.

Mitchell resigned from the force at the beginning of November. In an interview, he said he doesn't agree with the report's conclusions.

"Mitchell resigned from the force at the beginning of November"
Why did Mitchell resign if he committed insubordination and why was he not fired?

In an Aug. 8 meeting at the county's Child Advocacy Center, the report says, Mitchell was reminded that the victim, a 7-year-old girl, named her abuser in a taped interview and described the abuse, which prosecutors felt warranted second-degree rape charges. However, according to the report, Mitchell again failed to press charges.

In October, apparently fed up with the delay, investigator Shawn Sarver met with the suspect's mother, explaining that prosecutors would charge her son directly. The mother told the prosecutor that Mitchell had "promised her that (her son) would not be charged if he completed six months of probation and six months of counseling."

3 months later? This is not something that should be waiting on the books for 3 months, we are talking about a child sex offender being left to walk the streets. I ask, where were the superiors?

Later that day, Sarver wrote, he spoke to Mitchell by phone. Mitchell assured Sarver he had already charged the boy with rape. Prosecutors called the Department of Juvenile Justice to verify Mitchell's claim and were told that no such charging documents could be found anywhere in their files.

An officer of 10 years that knows the system said; "he had already charged the boy with rape" If Mitchell had not filed these charges or taken legal action why would he say this knowing it's public record and easily obtained?

That afternoon, prosecutors went to the Pocomoke City Police Department and were allowed by Police Chief J.D. Ervin free reign to search for "evidence of the crime of rape or misconduct in office," the report states.

OK? And what did they find?

Mitchell met with Worcester County State's Attorney Joel Todd and the assistant prosecutor, Diane Cuilhe, who had been pressing him to make the arrest. He maintained that he had charged the boy, producing a police file showing that the suspect had been fingerprinted. But Sarver noted that the file did not go as far as indicating the filing of criminal charges.

If this person was fingerprinted he must have been arrested and charged with something, or at least been a suspect.

Prosecutors concluded that Mitchell had lied in police reports and other documentation when he claimed the Child Advocacy Center had decided not to take action on the boy's case.

More un-conclusive dribble, how do we know that the Child Advocacy Center had decided not to take action?

Mitchell, a 10-year veteran of the Pocomoke City Police Department, said that he did charge the boy in August.

"It's more an unfortunate set of circumstances and confusion," he said Friday. "I did charge him. I've always done my job professionally."

OK, lets see it. Who has this documentation?

He declined to say much more, having not seen the report.

"I've not quit or walked away from anything," Mitchell said. "I've had a good career, a long career. I'm satisfied."

I do believe that Mitchell has "quit" the reason is still un-answered.

Todd said there was no evidence that Mitchell had acted similarly on any other cases and said no charges would be filed against him.

WHOA!! "no charges would be filed against him"?? This is BIG, real BIG and if an officer of the law has disrespected the badge this deep (s)he is as guilty as the offender. This is the statement that makes me question this whole thing.

"He's not in a position where he is going to repeat this behavior," Todd said. "The fact he has left police work is the most that I can hope for, so I'm satisfied that justice has been done."

"justice has been done"? when/where? If Mitchell has done what he has been accused of, this is criminal, and just stepping down is not justice.

Todd said WCBI has filed charges against the 15-year-old boy, and the 7-year-old girl was placed into a safe environment by Social Services, Todd said.

Where are the charges against Mitchell? It's just too many variables to this story so far and that's why I'm not jumping the gun and throwing the blame game out.

The state will terminate cases in which Mitchell was to be the only testifying witness, Todd said, and the Pocomoke City Police Department has turned over the cases Mitchell was involved with to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation.

To me this looks like "the State" does not want Mitchell to testify on some other cases and they have invented a reason to suppress his testimony. This makes me wonder.

Pocomoke police had been very cooperative with the investigation, Todd said.

"This was a police issue, not a mayor and council issue, and I think the police department has acted appropriately," he said.

Ervin could not be reached by phone late Friday. Mayor Michael McDermott said as far as he knew, Mitchell had been "a good employee" who had done a lot for the city. He said he could not release the reason for the officer's resignation, saying it was a confidential personnel issue, and added that he and the council knew little about the investigation.

"Nothing has been brought to our attention. This is something the state's attorney is involved in," McDermott said. "We were not aware this was going on."

It's very clear that "the people of Pocomoke" do not have anything to do with this and it's real clear they are tired of being blamed for every pot hole in Pocomoke. The "people" want justice and the real person(s) involved behind bars.
