(Updated) The Associated Press reported Tuesday (9/5) that Jackson Holliday has been promoted to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.

Jackson Holliday this spring in Salisbury.

PHOENIX - Baseball's No. 1 prospect is moving on up. Again. Shortstop Jackson Holliday will play for his fourth team of the minor league season when he joins Triple-A Norfolk from Double-A Bowie this week, according to a source.

LONG AGO BUT NOT FAR AWAY- THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS OF OUR SOUTHERN PENINSULA 

From a 1951 feature article in the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot.  The author, Leonora W. Wood, (1892-1989) wrote articles of regional historic interest for Virginia newspapers and authored "Guide To Virginia's Eastern Shore" in 1952.  She was an inspiration for the novel "Christy" written by her daughter Catherine Marshall, a well-known author.  Mrs. Wood's husband was a minister who had served Holmes Presbyterian Church in Cheriton.

New system for holding Worcester students accountable

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. -- The Worcester County Sheriff's Office has a new operating procedure. It will involve handcuffing a student in extreme cases.

Students under the age of 10 will not be handcuffed. Students ages 10-12 could be arrested for violent crimes or possessing a firearm. Students ages 13-17 could be arrested for the previously mentioned violent crimes, or for serious misdemeanors like threats of mass violence, sexual offenses, threats of arson and violations of a protective order.

Do you know when your student's first day of school is?

Students of Somerset County Public Schools will begin 2023-2024 year in a "staggered" fashion again this year, welcoming back all comprehensive special education students and students who are new to their school on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. 

Reporting on Tuesday, September 5:

Deal Island Elementary: PreK-3, PreK-4
Crisfield Academy & High: 8th Grade
Greenwood Elementary: 2nd Grade
Princess Anne Elementary: PreK-3, PreK-4
Somerset Intermediate: 6th Grade
Washington Academy & High: 8th Grade
Woodson Elementary: PreK-3, PreK-4
*Comprehensive special education students, all schools/grades*

This allows students who are new to their school an opportunity to familiarize themselves with a new environment and routine, with fewer distractions and more one-on-one help from staff. Parents and guardians can be assured that this schedule change will have no effect on a student’s attendance record, and it will not require the addition of a day to the end of the school year.

All other students will report for their first day of school on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Parents and guardians with additional questions should contact their student's school for more information.
