Be part of the first stop on Pocomoke City's new Neighborhood Outreach Initiative.

On Thursday, July 2, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, city staff and officials will be visiting the neighborhoods surrounding:

• Bishop Isaac Jenkins Street

• Sixth Street

• Bonneville Avenue

• Moore Street

• Fourth Street

• Young Street

We're stepping out of City Hall and into our neighborhoods because your voice matters. Whether you have questions, concerns, ideas, or simply want to learn more about what's happening in Pocomoke City, we want to hear from you.

This is the first of several neighborhood visits planned throughout the community, and we hope you'll join us as we begin this new effort to connect directly with residents.

Somerset outdoor burn ban lifted-

    SOMERSET COUNTY

UPDATE: Somerset County has lifted its burn ban, but still strongly recommends caution when burning outdoors.

President Charles Laird of the Somerset County Commissioners says that, upon the advisement of the Somerset County Fire Chiefs, Somerset County has lifted the imposed moratorium on all outdoor burning.

However, authorities maintain it is strongly recommended that extreme caution is used if choosing to burn outdoors.

Introducing the Mayor’s 50 Mile Challenge

Pocomoke, it’s time to get moving.

I am excited to launch the Mayor’s 50 Mile Challenge, a community-wide fitness initiative designed to encourage healthy living, friendly competition, and community engagement. The challenge is simple: log 50 miles between July 1, 2026 and July 31, 2026 using the Nike Run Club app. Whether you walk, jog, run, or do a combination of all three, every mile counts.

This challenge is for everyone. You do not have to be a runner to participate. The goal is to get outside, stay active, and challenge yourself while joining fellow residents in a citywide movement toward better health and wellness.

Challenge Details

• Dates: July 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026

• Goal: 50 Miles

• Track your miles using the Nike Run Club app

• Walkers, joggers, and runners are all welcome

• Open to residents of all ages

Grab a friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or church member and participate together. Walk or run in groups, encourage one another, and enjoy everything our community has to offer. We want to see Pocomoke outside, active, and moving together.

As Mayor, I will be participating right alongside you. Throughout the month, I will share updates, highlight participants, and encourage our community as we work toward our goals.

At the end of the challenge, participants who complete the full 50 miles will receive special recognition, and we will celebrate the accomplishments of our community together.

The Mayor’s 50 Mile Challenge is about more than fitness. It is about building community, creating healthy habits, and demonstrating what we can accomplish when we come together with a common purpose.

Mini mystery in the Pocomoke at Snow Hill-

 (WMDT)

SNOW HILL, Md. – Emergency responders were on scene at Byrd Park in Snow Hill Friday evening.

The Snow Hill Police Department says an individual reported that his magnetic fishing equipment had attached to something heavy and metal next to the southern portion of the boat ramp at the park.

A side sonar scan was conducted and revealed a frame that appeared to be some type of vehicle.

As a result, the Ocean City Dive Team was called in, and after 2 hours of searching, a large wooden frame with metal cross supports was removed from the river.

Some locals believe it may be the remnants of an old box car, but authorities are not certain.

Police say additional scans of the bulkhead surrounding the boat ramp will be conducted in the near future to rule out any vehicles.

Pocomoke City SAFE PATH project to start-

I am excited to announce that Phase 1 of the Mayor’s Safe Path Initiative will officially begin on June 22, 2026, and continue through July 17, 2026. This is a major investment in our infrastructure and a commitment to improving the safety, appearance, and quality of life throughout Pocomoke City.

During this phase, crews will be milling, repaving, and completing related roadway improvements in the following areas:

• Winter Quarters

• Beech Street

• Sixth Street

• Fifth Street

• Fourteenth Street

• Linden Drive

• Princess Anne Lane

• Fifteenth Street

• Moore Street

• Bonneville Avenue

• Bishop Isaac Jenkins Street

Residents should expect heavy equipment, construction activity, and occasional traffic delays while work is underway. A detailed construction schedule for each area will be released by the City.

Please note that vehicles will not be permitted to park on streets during scheduled construction periods. Vehicles that obstruct construction operations may be towed at the owner’s expense.

This project represents the first phase of a larger vision to create safer streets, sidewalks, and pathways throughout our community. Phase 2 of the Mayor’s Safe Path Initiative will begin immediately following the completion of Phase 1, as we continue moving Pocomoke City forward one street, one sidewalk, and one neighborhood at a time.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and support as we make these long-overdue improvements. The future of Pocomoke is being built today, and we’re just getting started.

SOMERSET COUNTY, MD - The Somerset County Public School Board of Education plans to eliminate 8 learning support assistance roles for the fiscal year 2027 budget. 

Members of the Somerset Education Association tell WBOC that those 8 teachers were notified on Friday, less than a week before the start of summer vacation.
