“Just Walk for Men’s Health” Returns to Pocomoke June 1 | Latest News | wboc.com

In celebration of Men’s Health Month, the Worcester County Health Department in collaboration with the City of Pocomoke will be hosting their first Just Walk for Men’s Health event on June 10th.
The event will take place at Cypress Park in Pocomoke City. It will include a walk, no-cost health screenings, health education, and more. This family and pet-friendly event is open to all county residents.
Registration and check-in will start at 8:30 a.m. followed by opening remarks at 9:00 a.m. by special guests Pocomoke City Mayor Todd Nock and Al “Hondo” Handy. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a pre-walk warm-up with Gary Press, owner of G Fit Boot Camp, followed by a walk through the park. After the walk, participants are encouraged to visit health vendors and participate in free health screenings, including blood pressure and a diabetes risk assessment.

Welcome back spring with the 26 the Annual Tortoise and Hare Dare 5K walk/run. The 5k will take place at the Pocomoke River State Park-Shad Landing in Snow Hill on Saturday, April 15th.
Registration begins at 8:30 am and the walk/run will begin at 9:15am. This is a FREE event and is pet friendly. The first 100 runners/walkers to register for the event will receive a free commemorative T-shirt. This 5k is sponsored by The Worcester County Health Department, Worcester County Department of Recreation & Parks, and Pocomoke River State Park.
“The 26th Annual Tortoise and Hare Dare 5k is the perfect opportunity to get out and get active in our county and explore the lovely Shad Landing,” said Mimi Dean, Director of Prevention Services for Worcester County Health Department. “Whether you walk or run, this event is a fun, accessible way to welcome spring back to Worcester.”
After the walk, participants are encouraged to visit local health, recreation, and community vendors. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while getting some physical activity with friends, family, and other community residents. Pre-registration is encouraged. Students at Stephen Decatur High School learn about the impacts of substance abuse from speaker Jenalie Raphelt, a paramedic and director of events for Medical Inflatables, with the help of a larger-than-life inflatable brain and lungs. The interactive display traveled to multiple schools through out the county this week.
The Mega Brain and Mega Lungs was also displayed at Snow Hill Middle School, Snow Hill High School, Pocomoke Middle School and on Friday, will be at Pocomoke High School.
