Prior to that barge hitting the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in 1972, the USS Yancey (AKA 93) hit the structure on January 21, 1970. Yancey had been anchored off Little Creek Amphibious Base and the anchor broke loose during a winter gale and snowstorm. Mike Swords was not Officer of the Deck at that time.
