Accomack County Police Announce Citizen's Police Academy
Students will receive classrom instruction on laws of arrest, patrol with uniformed deputies, work through a mock crime scene with Investigators and crime scene technicians.
Citizens will also visit the department's firing range with the opportunity to fire department issued specialized weapons. This will be with the supervision of a Certified Fire Arm Instructor. Citizens will also witness a demonstration of the department's Swat Team and K-9 Unit.
The Academy Classes will be held at the Eastern Shore Community College Workforce Development Center on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM beginning March 30, 2011 and concluding May 25, 2011. Anyone interested in applying for the Academy is asked to contact Lieutenant David A. Rogers at 787-1131 or 824-5666.
The class will be limited to 20 students.

Alleged Va. Child Sex Crimes Spark Investigation
Accomack Sheriff Larry Giddens said his agency received a report of the multiple accounts of child sexual abuse on Wednesday at 9:35 a.m. and launched an investigation.
Further details are being withheld at this time, as investigators are still working the case.
Giddens issued a statement Thursday saying his agency is conducting a "thorough investigation regarding this case."

Man Shoots Himself After Being Wanted In Slaying Girlfriend
Clarence Justin Clayton, 29, of Nelsonia, was pronounced dead at the scene, Accomack County Sheriff Larry Giddens said.
Authorities had been searching for Clayton, who was driving a red 2006 Mercedes-Benz, since the Thursday night shooting of his former girlfriend in the city of Portsmouth.
The woman, Mary Jane C. Abad, 22, of Virginia Beach, had two young children and was three months pregnant, according to reports. She had been shot several times.
Giddens said Clayton was believed to be armed and dangerous and faced a charge of first-degree murder and a weapons charge. He also was charged with stealing the vehicle.
The vehicle was observed at 9:20 a.m. Friday on Nelsonia Road. Accomack deputies initiated a traffic stop on Lankford Highway.
Before they could converge on the vehicle, Clayton shot himself, Giddens said.
The incident took place near the highway’s intersection with Whites Neck Road.
Investigators from the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and Detectives from the Portsmouth Police Department are currently processing the 2006 red Mercedes-Benz and surrounding area.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this case by the Virginia Department of Transportation and Parksley Police Department.

Saturday Night Shooting In New Church
The victims injured during this incident consist of a 17 year old juvenile, whose name was not released, and two adults. The adults injured were Alnisa Crosland, age 22 of Berlin, MD and Mike Harmon, age 37 of New Church.
The Accomack County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Virginia State Police and the Onancock, Parksley, Bloxom, and Hallwood Police Departments.

SUSPECT CHARGED IN MURDER
ACCOMAC, Va.- An 23-year-old man is behind bars for the murder of an Accomack County man.
The Accomack County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday announced that 23-year-old Fernando Carrillo Sanchez of Accomac, has been charged with the second-degree murder of 49-year-old Johnny Strand, whose body was found inside his Melfa home on Saturday afternoon.
Strand, who was the manager of the Pizza Hut in Onley, was last seen by his colleagues closing up the restaurant the night before. His vehicle, a Ford Expedition, was missing from his home when police arrived on the scene.
During the homicide investigation, the Sheriff's Office traced Strand's vehicle to the Dreamland mobile home park on Route 13 in Accomack County. A late Tuesday night search of the mobile home park by investigators, deputies, and Virginia State Police troopers uncovered Strand's vehicle at a home there. Police say the home's occupants cooperated with authorities in bring the investigation to a close.
Sanchez is being held in the Accomack County Jail with bond denied. Police have not yet released how Strand was murdered or the motive for the crime.

Accomack County Sheriff"s Dept. Needs Help In Finding These Men
Keshawn Kellam, age 21, and Keyron Bess, age 27, are wanted for robbery and using a gun in a felony.
Jermaine Blake, age 21, and Keenen Goodwine, age 18, face the same charges, and 21-year-old Juarez Barrios is wanted for attempted robbery.
