PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth Mayor James Holley, whose citizens filed a petition last week calling for his resignation, has filed a challenge petition.The 40-word challenge questioned the "genuineness of the signatures," of which there were nearly 9,000, and the "qualifications of the electors."
A judge will decide the legitimacy of the signatures on May 27.
If the judge rules that the amount of legitimate signatures constitute enough for a recall, Holley will have five days from that date to step down from office.
