Worcester County Sheriff's Department Makes Drug Arrest

POCOMOKE CITY -- Two men are in police custody after 107.9 grams of marijuana was seized by Worcester County sheriff's detectives after a traffic stop for a broken taillight.

Jarrell Bernard Roberts, 24, of Pocomoke City was charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana in a school zone, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer.

Roderick D. Collier, 20, of Pocomoke City has been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in a school zone, resisting arrest and possession of paraphernalia.

Roberts and Collier were charged after Sheriff's Office Detective Anthony Rhode pulled over the vehicle they were in for an alleged equipment violation on Young Street in Pocomoke City.

Detectives Rodney Wells, Brian Trader and Bethany Ramey then arrived and proceeded to search Roberts and Collier after seeing them make "furtive movements," according to charging documents.

A pat-down was given to ensure officer safety, police said, and officers found a gallon-sized plastic bag containing 20 individually wrapped plastic bags of marijuana as well as a digital scale in Roberts' pants, according to a police statement.

Collier allegedly shouted at the officers that the marijuana found on Roberts was his. Taking him at his word, police say, they searched Collier, finding a plastic sandwich bag allegedly containing 17 individual wrapped plastic bags of suspected marijuana as well as a digital scale, which contained what police say was marijuana and cocaine residue.

Once in custody, Collier and Roberts were unruly and uncooperative, according to police.

The driver of the car, Derrick Smith of Pocomoke City, was not charged nor searched, according to police.

Two Men Convicted For Having Drug Laden Tractor Trailer

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Two Florida men who were stopped in a stolen tractor-trailer carrying more than three tons of marijuana have been convicted of federal drug charges in Pennsylvania.

Thirty-six-year-old Stanley Narcisse and 35-year-old Eric Emmanuel were convicted Friday of conspiracy and drug distribution charges.

Authorities say Emmanuel was behind the wheel of the truck when police stopped it January 31 on Interstate 81 near the border between Dauphin and Lebanon counties. Paperwork problems prompted state police to search the trailer, where they found about 6,500 pounds of marijuana. Investigators put the street value of the drugs at $6.5 million.

Prosecutors say the trailer had been stolen in Georgia, picked up the drugs in Arizona and was heading to Connecticut when it was stopped.

A sentencing date has not been set.

20 TONS Of Pot Found Near Tunnel By U S Border

SAN DIEGO – Federal authorities in San Diego have made one of the largest marijuana seizures in the United States, confiscating 20 tons of pot near an underground tunnel connecting warehouses on either side of California's border with Mexico, officials said Wednesday.

Mexican authorities seized another four tons of pot from the warehouse on their side of the border. Officials said the lightening-speed, 12-hour operation started Tuesday night when U.S. authorities watching a warehouse under surveillance followed a tractor-trailer as it left the building.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents called in the California Highway Patrol, whose officers stopped the rig near Temecula and authorities found 10 tons of marijuana inside. The driver, a U.S. citizen, and his Mexican wife were arrested and will be arraigned in San Diego on Thursday.

Authorities quickly obtained a federal search warrant to go inside the warehouse, where they discovered 10 to 15 tons of marijuana — worth an estimated $20 million, said ICE director John Morton.

They also found a wood door that opened to a hole leading to the tunnel, running the length of six football fields, under the border and into a warehouse in Mexico, Morton said. Officials found packets being ready to be moved into the United States from the tunnel, which had lighting, ventilation and a rail system to send loads of illegal drugs into California.

"This is not a mom-and-pop operation. This is obviously the work of a cartel," said Morton, who held a news conference outside the warehouse in an industrial park near the Otay Mesa truck crossing, across from Tijuana.

Officials said the seizure was the largest ever in California and was believed to be the second-largest in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents seized 33 tons of marijuana in Oregon in 2008, DEA special agent Ralph W. Partridge said.

Drug Smiffing Dog Sniffs Out Pot Hidden In Dog Food Bag

GRANDY, N.C. (WAVY) - Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man for having more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside his car at the Food Lion parking lot in Grandy Saturday.

Currituck County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Lucio Obet-Pasos Barrios of Columbia, N.C. They charged him with two counts of trafficking marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for felony drug distribution.

Acting on a tip, members of the department's Interdiction Narcotics Unit approached Barrios' 2002 Dodge Neon at 11:18 a.m., according to a news release. The unit's drug-sniffing dog alerted deputies to the presence of drugs. A search of the car uncovered a dog food bag in the trunk that contained 10 one-gallon plastic bags filled with marijuana, according to the release.

Barrios is currently being held at the Currituck County jail under $4,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
