Scott Rigell Addresses Blogs United

Congressional candidate Scott Rigell addresses bloggers and others at the Blogs United conference at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia

Scott Rigell (R) announces candidacy for House seat

According to WAVY news 10, Founder of Freedom Automotive Scott Rigell announced Tuesday his intent run for the 2nd Congressional district of Virginia as a Republican.

At the campaign kick-off event, held at the Westin Hotel in Virginia Beach, Rigell spoke about issues such as energy, jobs and health care.

"At a time when one out of ten Americans are out of work and countless others are struggling to pay their bills, we need leaders who have the know-how and entrepreneurial spirit to create jobs in America again," said Rigell, who employs more than 240 people in his car dealerships.

Rigell said he's careful not to mix his business with politics, and is running against Democrat Glenn Nye whom he says won his Congressional seat on the coattails of Mark Warner and President Obama.

But it could prove challenging to Rigell. For his part, Nye has spent the past year crossing the district, and holding small business workshops to help the small business community. Political experts say Nye has spent the last year becoming the most conservative type Democrat you can be, and voted against his own party and his President on health care.

"People are interested in reforming the healthcare system, but they are interested in doing it in a way to increase access to health care but also to keep costs down. That is where this bill failed...it cost too much, and that why I voted no to that one," Nye said.

"There is a great need for accountability in Washington, and my campaign kick-off is the launch of a conversation with voters in Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore on getting America back on track," said Rigell.

Other GOP candidates for the 2nd district seat:
Kenny Golden
Ben Loyola
Ed Maulbeck
Bert Mizusawa
Scott Taylor

Nye says this about his potential opponent, "Until they have decided who their candidate is I have to focus on my job...I have a lot of work to do for the district."

Virginia's General Election Results

In the General Election for the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Bob McDonnell is the clear winner. McDonnell won over 60% of the popular vote and was heavily favored from the start. McDonnell also won both Accomack and Northampton Counties.

In the General Election for the Lieutenant Governor, the winner is Bill Bolling. Bolling won more than 59 % of the vote. Bolling won Accomack County but Northampton County residents favored challenger Jody Wagner.

In the General Election for Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli is the victor. Cuccinelli won just over 60% of the vote. Cuccinelli carried both Accomack and Northampton Counties.

The local election for the next Delegate in the Virginia 100th district was just as lopsided as the previous three. Incumbent Lynwood Lewis won more than 67% percent of the vote, beating challenger Melody Scalley. Lewis won both counties, winning Northampton by a larger margin.

Northampton County Election Results

Northampton County also held its Board of Supervisors Election last night. In District 1 the winner was Willie Randall, edging out opponents W.T. Nottingham and Granville Hogg. Randall won more than 48% of the vote.

In District 2 the winner was Samuel Long. Long won more than 63% of the vote to beat opponent David Burden.

In District 3 the winner was Oliver Bennett, winning more than 60% of the vote to beat Marshall Cox.

Election Turnout

The real story of this year’s election was voter turnout. In Northampton County the voter turnout was only 37%. In Accomack County it was worse than that; there was only a 33% voter turnout. When it was all said and done, approximately 20,000 voters did not head to the polls, which is almost twice the number who showed up to vote.

It's Broke

To President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature,
It is now official—you are ALL corrupt morons:
  • The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775—you have had 234 years to get it right—and it is broke.
  • Social Security was established in 1935—you have had 74 years to get it right—and it is broke.
  • Fannie Mae was established in 1938—you have had 71 years to get it right—and it is broke.
  • War on Poverty started in 1964—you have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor"—and they only want more.
  • Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965—you have had 44 years to get it right—and they are broke.
  • Freddie Mac was established in 1970—you have had 39 years to get it right—and it is broke.
  • The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil, it has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before—you had 32 years to get it right—and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars—AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??
Are you crazy, or do you just believe all Americans are morons too???

Truly, the inmates are running the asylum—and what does this say about us, as voters who put such idiots in office?? If we do not vote against EVERY incumbent currently in office—we are ALL morons, regardless of our political leanings.

Healthcare 101, what's left to say really?

In two minuets and twenty four seconds this lady makes more sense on the obamascare debate then all the demwits in DC.

A little commonsense goes a long way if only our politicians would apply it sometime.

Leftist Organization AARP Loses 60,000 Members Over Obamacare

60,000 Americans have cancelled their AARP memberships over the leftist organization's support of Obamacare.
CBS News reported:

CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group's position on health care.

Elaine Guardiani has been with AARP for 14 years, and said, "I'm extremely disappointed in AARP."

Retired nurse Dale Anderson has 12 years with AARP and said, "I don't wanna be connected with AARP."

Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative as CBS News Investigative Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.
USA Today has more.

John Hawkins adds,

"No wonder people are leaving the AARP. They're backing a plan that would ration tens of 1000s of their members to death."

Armey: We're Marching on Washington Against Obamacare

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey is organizing a march on Washington against the Obama administration’s healthcare plan that he hopes will finally finish off the Democratic push for socialized medicine.

The march, organized by Armey’s political group FreedomWorks, is scheduled for Sept. 12 and is already generating hundreds of thousands of responses, the Texas Republican tells Newsmax.TV. The group isn’t providing transportation, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

“We had a guy the other day from Indiana that said, ‘I want to get there.’ When we explained that we don’t bus people into these things, he said, ‘No, a bunch of us are getting together and renting our own bus. We’re all coming,’” Armey told Newsmax.TV’s Ashley Martella.

“The fact is they want their voices to be heard and they are looking at a venue in which they can express it.”

Armey also told Newsmax that:

  • the agenda of Obama and the liberal leadership of Congress offers the GOP ample opportunity to take back control of the House and build ranks in the Senate in 2010.
  • Because lawmakers continually fear the charge of doing nothing, they can easily be stampeded by mass movements into crafting bad laws that can take years to fix.
  • the Democrat Party continually underestimates the public’s essential desire to be free to run their own healthcare.
  • the resistance to ObamaCare is similar to that of HillaryCare, in which voters revolted against Hillary Clinton’s attempt at healthcare reform in 1993-94.
  • The Democratic playbook is based very much on the teachings of former Obama mentor and radical organizer Saul Alinsky, who stressed that a movement must first create the impression of a crisis, then show the nation how big government and only big government alone has the solution to that crisis.

“The public at large is dealing with the same mass of hostile takeover of the ‘heartfelt sector’ of the economy –– my personal healthcare, Armey said. “They [the government] want to take it over and they want to run it, and that is scary to the public at large.”
