Board of Supervisors Announce Cuts
The Accomack County Board of Supervisors met in a budget meeting Wednesday night in Accomac and announced the cuts they would be making to balance the revenue shortfall.
Currently, the County pays $50,000 per year for health insurance for the Board of Supervisors members. A motion was made to drop coverage for the families of the Board Members, which was voted against.
The Board also announced what departments would lose positions. The County Administrator will lose one part time position. Among the Departments losing one full time position will be the Commissioner of Revenue, the Building and Zoning Department and EMS. The Economic Development Department and the Convenience Centers will lose one full time position and one part time position. The Building and Grounds Department will lose two positions. The Youth Services will lose five positions, but currently only two are filled.
Donald Hart made a motion to raise real estate taxes by 4 cents and was voted down 7-2. Another motion was made to cut tourism funds by $20,000 and that vote was approved 6-3.
