POCOMOKE CITY -- Mike McDermott will oversee his last City Council meeting as mayor, resigning the position as he moves into the role of state delegate. Scheduled for the meeting is routine business, including the review of minutes, a second reading of legislation and the city manager presenting project bids.
Also on the agenda is discussion of the 2011 Cypress Festival. Denise Wagner, executive director of the Pocomoke City Chamber of Commerce and event organizer, said the Chamber had previously spoken with the council and is expected to return with more information.
"It's more preliminary than anything," Wagner said. "(The council) asked for some additional information. ... We didn't have the sketches with us before."
The Cypress Festival is scheduled to enter its 37th year this summer, expanding once again, according to Wagner. She hopes to include life-saving demonstrations from the U.S. Coast Guard, expanded food and craft booths as well as a fishing tournament in Cypress Park.
"We haven't had our first Cypress meeting yet," Wagner said. "But we would like some additional space and to rearrange some things."
The council is also scheduled to discuss incentives for new homebuilders who install sprinkler systems in single family homes.
McDermott is specifically scheduled to present a deed for industrial property at the corner of Broad and Eighth streets to Dan Boyle of Beretta and Benelli Corp. The property was originally sold to Beretta on a lease-purchase contract in 1990.
After McDermott resigns, Robert Hawkins will fill in as mayor until city elections are held in April.

Put his buddies on committee after committee, heaven's to declare he should dare have to listen to somebody who doesnt agree with HIS point of view, and dont even get me started on all those promises he made to so many people...precisely how many did he keep?

Oh, by the way, the signature page for the Chief's contract ended up in one of Boss Hoggs' papers or rather 'newsletters' printed way back yonder...now i just wonder which one gave it to the Burkes to publish?

Mercy, if they had access after the elections of a 'new day' for mike and bruce to the Chief's contract, did they have access to the City Manager's too?
How did they get hold of a copy to 'print' the signature lines?
How did this get 'taken' out of City Hall where all contracts should be securely kept?
Who gave it to the Burke's for publication is the 'real' question?

Pocomoke was only a 'stepping' stone for him. Guess what, he quit/resigned whatever you want to call it to move on and he didn't do what he promised Pocomoke that he would do.

Wonder what the good ole' boy's club wants of him that they sent him to Annapolis. Mike got what he wanted. But what did the good ole' boy's club want?
What happened to the letter that the ACLU sent to Mike dated April 18, 2008 about our voting system?

I wouldn't trust those currently in office or sitting on a committee. They've broken too many promises to this community.

Things seem to be going ok in Pocomoke since there have been no takers on wanting the info you say you have.
One thing for sure....Mike is no longer Mayor of Pocomoke. That should mean, and I am sure it does to alot of people, that whatever he did or did not do is history. Let it go and stop giving him "free rent" of your feelings.
As of today (Wednesday) he will be sworn in under a new title. Let him start his new chapter in life with some peace and with the feeling that he can and will do well.
Delegate McDermott will do a wonderful job for this district.
