Oh yeah that's classy. What can you expect? Read who are on the Board.

Anonymous said...

What in the world is this doing in Pocomoke City?

Anonymous said...

Good question. Wonder if they read what the Bible says.

Anonymous said...

Is this really a movie about male strippers and has nudity in it? Hattie and j. Dawson Clarke wouldn't allow such in the theatre. What pursuing the almighty dollar does.

Awww.... anon 6:33, 6:40, 6:51 You didn't get invited??? Don't be so sad....the Bible also says we shouldn't judge. Keep in mind also, that religion and ones belief in God are between that person and God only! Your opinion doesn't count. And I don't think God liked it when you made the comment about the Board. Shame on you!

And another thing....don't be too concerned about the movie. That stage is certainly big enough to hold the real thing!! Plenty of half naked men dancing!!

Invited? To what? Missing nothing. But definitely laughing. Too POLITICAL! Shows no impartiality. Got to kiss a behind for anything. Not me.

Anonymous said...

So it was politically motivated to not 'invite' certain groups to this activity. 8:43 you verified it.

Anonymous said...

Yeah very classy.

That's okay, it's just a drama/comedy with some semi-nude men and the hero ends up getting the girl after all. I'm sure you would rather watch something like Dawson and Hattie would show. You know, with guns and murder, blood and gore, car chases and beheadings. That's the Christian way. We don't need any naked men, we got dead bodies in our movies.

Slim

I saw you tonight, Brenda.

jmmb said...

Slim- :) Then I guess I should say I saw you too. Hmmm... I was in a couple of places so now I have to just figure which place you saw me- or even both.

Brenda,

At 6:10 pm you were sitting on the sofa.

Slim

OH, snap!! I have no clue. There were lots of people milling around. You know, the circumstances are always so sad and somber but I always see people I know and love and haven't seen in a long time. You were probably one of them. Hope I spoke to you.

6:43 posting 2 attacks the person and the others are about the movie - typical for these sites.

There was nothing political about the booking of the movie. The manager received an overwhelming amount of requests for the film. Since the family friendly films have not been bringing in enough to cover costs, it was decided to pursue this film for our adult audience. The theater is a performing arts center and tries to bring in a variety of offerings for the diverse audience. While this might not be something that everyone likes, there is a huge audience planning to attend. It is not on a normal movie weekend and has been marketed to adults only. The next few films are rated PG, PG-13, and PG. Hopefully attendance will be better with them.

Tragic they are leaving values behind.. So something is okay as long as enough people ask for it ; hope you don't apply this logic to everything.

Think it is sad. Where better yet is the money from this restaurant going and what is the reason the town passed a bill not allowing any other business to sell alcohol near this one. Monopoly. Does the town receive the money it the discovery center or the board? Is it true the town council members, mayor and city manager are on it?

Anonymous said...

Any questions or concerns can be sent to me, Katy, the manager, at katy@marvatheater.com.

We don't apply that logic to everything; however, I feel as though a lot of people assume being a non profit means everything is taken care of for you.

Any scrutiny can be directed my way. Please leave my board members out of it.

Lawson's is gone but this is ok. The town sponsoring alcohol , cosmos at that, with movies that glamourize male strippers with nudity. Are snow hill and Berlin this desperate?

Anonymous said...

Dear, board members are responsible for events the organization holds.

Anon 11:56 and 11:46
You have been given an email address so that you may express your complaints. This is ONE movie, and a restaurant that is trying to be friendly and is very much a part of the downtown community. IF the city became involved in every decision made there would be an entirely different type of government!

You have been given an explanation as to why Magic Mike will be showing tonight- although I don't think it's any of your business. The decisions are left up to a few people. If you don't want to go because you don't want to see that type of movie then don't go. But don't belittle others because they do. I've seen more crap on television that could caulse more harm.

So what's wrong with a night out with a girlfriend or sister to have a couple of drinks and then attend the movie? Or even just attend the movie?

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

Churches need to realize; this is only the beginning.

Anonymous said...

Good turn out?
Nothing to brag about.
Wonder if any of the ministers will take a stand.
Or are they all being romanced by our Mayor.
Beware of wolves in sheep clothing.

Anonymous said...

Actually since the restaurant was built with a grant and tax payer's money (remember Cottman remarking when plans were readjusted?), this IS every tax payer's business.

Get your facts straight.

Anonymous said...

Se goes for marva .... Don't want my tax payer dollars going to this kind of stuff .

To all the anonymous comments posted on here that are so upset about the movie tonight. Instead of worrying so much about what people are doing and stalking the movie theater to see how many are attending why don't you put your energy towards making sure the poor, hungry and elderly in your town are taken care of. There's too much of God's work to be done by helping others. And when you are through crawl back under your rock.

This is so much about absolutely nothing. Have you never heard of a free country?

Anonymous said...

11:46 FYI Berlin allows public consumption of alcohol on the streets at events.

"what is the reason the town passed a bill not allowing any other business to sell alcohol near this one. Monopoly"

Where is this bill 10:34 or are you just making this up?

To the anon commenter who is concerned about the movie-If you were truly concerned about the movie being shown, you would constructively do something about it. As it stands now all you are accomplishing is to get your pent up negativity for all things out in the open. Someone truly concerned would become active and at the very least make a donation to the theater since funds seem to be the reason the movie was choosen to air. That's what true Christians do. They act. They do not harp, complain and judge.
The devil has gotten into someone's heart, and is guiding them towards promoting discourse. Maybe today on the Sabbath you can find it in your heart to act in a Christian manner instead of promoting the devil's work of dividing. It's never too late for you to change.

Mrs. Slim went to the show. She reports the Riverfront Grill was packed from 5:00 till 7:30, the movie was delayed 15 minutes because the box office couldn't handle the huge crowd and there were fewer than a dozen empty seats. Draw your own conclusions. Do you want downtown to be viable or not?

Your friend,
Slim

That's wonderful news!! Thanks for letting us know. Hope Mrs. Slim and all the other ladies had a great time. Nothing like a "girls night out" once in a while!

Anonymous said...

Slim, this might make you feel better. MY mother went to the show and told me it was not that great a movie.
Yes we ladies like to look at nicely chiseled male bodies too!

Wake up people, it's not the 1950's anymore. It was great to see a line of people outside the theater last evening as i was headed to Salisbury. And no, I couldn't have cared less if my mother or my wife went to see the movie. I happened to go see "The Campaign" last night, and be forewarned all ye holy folk, there was a (gasp) part of a nipple shown - and no, i will not be scarred for life.

Hope to see all the protest again if "The Campaign" comes to Pocomoke!

Poor Lynn Duffy has nothing else to do but complain. To bad she does not leave town like the Burkes did!!

Anonymous said...

Poor 10:28 it is so nice when you answer you own comments. Thanks Miss Duffy
