Microsoft to XP Users: 'Don't Press F1'
If you're still using Windows XP, Microsoft has a piece of security advice for you: don't hit F1.
A recently discovered vulnerability is disrupting how Windows XP handles VBScripts that are used to load Help files. Hackers could disguise malicious code as a Windows Help file (with the extension ".hlp"), and then launch a pop-up window prompting users to press F1 for help. Pressing F1 would in fact load the malicious file, and execute the code, thus infecting a PC. Fortunately, the vulnerability does require user interaction, so those who refrain from using Help (or who turn it off entirely) will remain safe. Details for how to turn off Help can be found here.
The vulnerability applies to IE6, IE7, and IE8 on Windows XP. Vista and Windows 7 users, meanwhile, are unaffected.
Microsoft is currently working to patch the flaw, but has not announced a time by which to expect a fix. This is just one more reason to join the 21st century, and leave XP behind as the quaint memory of a bygone era that it is. [From: Microsoft, via: Computer World]
Body found in Snow Hill ID'd as missing woman Christine Sheddy
Human remains found in downtown Snow Hill have been identified by authorities as missing woman Christine Marie Sheddy.
Worcester County State's Attorney Joel Todd said in a statement Friday that the state medical examiner's office made the identification using dental records. No cause of death has been determined. Todd declined to comment when asked about possible suspects or pending charges.
"All involved law enforcement agencies are treating this as a suspicious death," he said.
Sheddy, of Frederica, Del., went missing November 14, 2007. The 26-year-old single mother had last been seen at a Pocomoke City-area residence, authorities said. A month later, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation issued a warrant for Sheddy's arrest on charges of child abandonment.
The Worcester County Sheriff's Office and WCBI have been working on the case, with assistance from State Police and the State's Attorney's office. Since her disappearance, some area residents orchestrated their own searches as well, combing the Pocomoke area on foot.
An investigation led police Feb. 19 to the grounds of the River House Inn, a bed and breakfast in downtown Snow Hill, where they unearthed the skeletal remains. Todd said the inn owners were not connected with the missing woman. He declined to explain just what led police to the site.
Sheddy's daughter, 10, and two sons, ages 5 and 6, are currently in the care her mother, Lynn Dodenhoff.
Dodenhoff referred questions to Sean Henady of 3View Search Services, a nonprofit search and rescue foundation acting as a family liaison. Henady said Dodenhoff plans to make a public statement soon.
He said Sheddy's mother is "exhausted," but appreciates the thoughts and prayers of the community.
"This has been a very tough time for the family, understandably," he said. "Lynn right now is actually going through a lot of relief. She is pleased to finally have the answers and know her daughter is coming home. The family knows that the legal process is just starting, and they will be patient through that process to know that justice will be served."

At the dinner table that evening, Mommy asked little Johnny To tell his story.
Johnny started his story,

Citizens Police Academy for Accomack
Accomack County Sheriff Larry J. Giddens, Sr. announced today that the Sheriff's Department will be conducting its 12th Citizens Police Academy.
Sheriff Giddens stated that the Citizens Police Academy will consist of 9 two hour classes involving classroom and practical instruction by certified instructors from the Accomack County Sheriffs Department.
The instruction will consist of an overall view of the operation of the Sheriff's Department including patrol criminal, investigations, courtroom familiarization, jail and communication. Students will receive classroom instruction of laws of arrest, patrol with uniform Deputies, work through a mock crime scene with investigators and crime scene technicians. Citizens will visit the Departments firing range with the opportunity to fire departmental issued specialized weapons. This will be with the supervision of a certified fire arm instructor. Citizens will also witness a demonstration of the Departments Swat Team and K-9 Unit.
Sheriff Giddens stated Academy Classes will be held at the Eastern Shore Community College on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM beginning March 17 and concluding May 12. Anyone interested in applying for the Academy is asked to contact Major Todd Godwin at 787-1131 or 824-5666 for more information. The class will be limited to 20 students.

Gas Explosion At Masonic Lodge
Confirmed reports have been received by a local radio station that there was a gas explosion last night at the Masonic Lodge in Temperanceville, VA. 911 dispatch confirmed that units responded to the scene around 9:00 PM Monday night.
Uncomfirmed reports received by the radio station report there was one badly injured person who had severe burns.
There was an Eastern Shore meeting of the Masons last night at the Lodge and most people were able to get out unharmed.

Salisbury Fined $50,000 For WWTP Problems
I find this ironic, good money for bad.
I don't think I have ever heard of the state imposing a fine on a local municipality. Salisbury must have done something really 'crappy' And they "agreed" on the amount of the fine? WTH?

The state of Maryland has fined Salisbury for problems at the wastewater treatment plant.
The city and state agreed to a $50,000 fine. The city council got a look at the yearlong payment plan during Monday's worksession. 
The fine covers sewage overflows and permit violations over the last several years. City Administrator John Pick says most of those problems occurred during the $80 million upgrade to the plant which used a new design.
The city of Salisbury says that design was flawed. Officials filed a lawsuit against the company O'Brien & Gere in October.
Salisbury contends the plant upgrade doesn't remove enough nitrogen to meet Maryland permit standards.

At Least Eighty Years of Cookies............
Sometimes on the weekend you just have to give in and visit the Wal*mart store. 
Now I have to admit that the store does look very nice. The openness of the store gives more room to walk and browse and I must admit also the brightness does make it very appealing. Good move on Mal*mart to decide to remodel. The recent fire hasn't seemed to make any setbacks in their work. This is wonderful.
Sometimes though, it's not what is for sale inside the store that is appealing but rather what waits on the outside. Upon leaving I had the wonderful opportunity this weekend during my dreaded visit to meet some of the finest young ladies. The Girl Scouts.
These young ladies were out there in the cold selling their cookies just as hard and fast as they could. It was the first year for the two young ladies who sold me my cookies so I let the younger one give me her sales pitch and tell me all about the two new flavors for this year. Being a Girl Scout many years ago I could appreciate the pitch and was amazed at how she knew so much not just about the cookies but exactly what the Girls Scouts when not selling cookies.
We talked awhile and the Mother chimed in that it was her first year also and how wonderful it has been for all of them. I must admit that a conversation with those girls made my day.
Girl Scout cookies have been a familiar part of America for probably 80 years and I must say the cookies cost more than they did when I went door to door selling them. It's harder today to sell them because people want a whole lot of cookies for that whole lot of money.
But here's the way I look at it...... If my small purchase can help just one young girl in this world today grow to be a better person for life, develop skills she will use her whole life, and show her what life is about the right way then my money was not wasted.
Please order or buy your Girl Scout Cookies. Even if it's only one box. These girls are on the right track to life. Let's help them keep learning and growing in the right direction.

Amidst all the self-indulged pats on the backs, "I did this, and I did that", bull crap I'm reading, and I have even read on another blog that they are taking full credit for finding the missing mother Christine Sheddy. (Liars)
It's the local LE that have been left out of the picture, not only left out, they are now taking heat for not doing their job. Whaaaaat?
Many, many cases of this nature go unsolved or take many years to solve. I think our local LE deserves a grand salute.
I do not know who 'personally' found the missing piece of the puzzle that pointed them to the remains of Christine Sheddy but I can almost gar-dang-t-ya it was the effort of ALL the local agencies unitized as a whole.
I can say from my own personal experience that the office of the SA (Joel Todd) has the Sheddy family's feelings at heart. I commend him for that as everyone else should also.
To all the local authorities that are and have been involved in the case of missing Christine Sheddy I personally thank each and every one of you for your tireless work on this very controversial case.
For those that think that this case was solved in "ten days" because another LE agency stepped in, GET A BRAIN!! they caught a break and someone talked, it just happened to be at this time.
Pocomoke City police, WCBI, Maryland State police, and the office of the States Attorney, you deserve more than is being put out there about you and I hope you will get the praise you have earned.

A Letter From a home grown American citizen
I am a home grown American citizen, 45, registered Republican all my life. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. Instead, we are burdened with Congressional Dukes and Duchesses who think they know better than the citizens they are supposed to represent.
There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now.
You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties.
What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:
One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This is not to be confused with legal immigration.
Two, the STIMULUS bill. I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.
Three: Czars. I want the circumvention of our constitutional checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution, and honor it.
Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There are many conflicting opinions and it is too soon for this radical legislation. Quit throwing our nation into politically-correct quicksand.
Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision that will burden me, my children and grandchildren. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night without even reading it. Slow down! Fix only what is broken -- we have the best health care system in the world -- and test any new program in one or two states first.
Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. More is not better! Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real [Constitutional] obligations. Why don't you start there?
Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time a real estate deal closes -- how did they pull that one off? Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates. We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone... and we are now looking at you.
You have awakened us, the patriotic freedom spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office.

What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:
One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This is not to be confused with legal immigration.
Two, the STIMULUS bill. I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.
Three: Czars. I want the circumvention of our constitutional checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution, and honor it.
Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There are many conflicting opinions and it is too soon for this radical legislation. Quit throwing our nation into politically-correct quicksand.
Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision that will burden me, my children and grandchildren. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night without even reading it. Slow down! Fix only what is broken -- we have the best health care system in the world -- and test any new program in one or two states first.
Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. More is not better! Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real [Constitutional] obligations. Why don't you start there?
Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time a real estate deal closes -- how did they pull that one off? Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates. I do not trust them with taking the census with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with any of our taxpayer money. A Marines Story
A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist who was badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.
The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road. I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scum bag who got what he deserved. And he yelled back that Barack Obama is a lying, good-for-nothing, left wing Commie who isn't even an American. So I said that Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian! He retaliated by yelling, "Oh yeah? Well, so does Nancy Pelosi!"

Remains of Woman Missing (Christine Sheddy) Two Years Found in Snow Hill Maryland
(Feb. 26) -- It has been more than two years since Lynn Dodenhoff has looked into the face of her blond-haired, blue-eyed daughter, Christine Marie Sheddy. The 26-year-old's sudden disappearance in late 2007 remained a mystery until today, when police announced that human remains found last week have been positively identified as Sheddy's.
"We were holding out hope that was her," Dodenhoff told AOL News. "We wanted her children, my grandchildren, to know that their mother did not abandon them."
Sheddy was living with her mother in Bowers Beach, Del., with her three children -- two boys and a girl, ages 2, 4 and 8 -- when she traveled to Pocomoke City, Md., in November 2007, to stay with Clarence Jackson, his girlfriend, Tia Johnson, and their friend, Justin Hadel. Sheddy knew Jackson and his girlfriend through her boyfriend, Levi Hall.
"Christine and I had a fight prior to her trip," Dodenhoff said. "At the time, milk was three dollars and something a gallon, and her youngest son loved milk. He could go through a gallon of milk a day. I mean, this was the dumbest fight on the planet. She was also very stressed out about problems she was having with Levi, so when this milk thing came about, she just exploded and I reacted. She then left with the two boys for Clarence Jackson's Byrd Road farm in Pocomoke City."
Roughly one week after arriving at the farm, Sheddy was ready to return to Bowers Beach. Things were not going well, and an accidental chimney fire that had burned a hole in the roof of the farmhouse only added to her discomfort. As a result, Sheddy was desperate to go home, but she was hesitant to call her mom, because of their argument.
"Christine was a very stubborn and proud girl," Dodenhoff said. "Rather than give in and call me, she reached out to her best friend, Jimmy 'Q' Quail. Following that conversation, Q called me and said, 'Christine wants to come home. Why don't you give her a call?' So I did, and I said, 'Won't you please come home?' She wanted to know why, and I told her, 'You have no heat there. I want you and the boys here.' "
In the end, Sheddy and her mother reached a compromise. She would leave the farm and travel to Philadelphia to stay with her sister, Jennifer.
"Jennifer had already said Christine could stay there," Dodenhoff said. "There are more job opportunities, people, places and things there. From my understanding, Levi was supposed to pick Christine up after work on Nov. 13, but she called Q and made a backup plan because she felt she could not rely on Levi. The last time I spoke with her I told her I loved her and she said the same back."
Unfortunately, something went terribly wrong between Sheddy's Nov. 10 call and Nov. 13, the date she was set to leave the farm.
"On Nov. 13, Jennifer received a phone call from Jackson, saying they had gone to run some errands, and when they got home, Christine was gone and the boys were there alone," Dodenhoff said.
According to Dodenhoff, Jackson told her there were no signs of forced entry. In addition to her two children, Sheddy's belongings were left untouched.
"Jackson called me back later that day and said he had a fight with Christine prior to her disappearance. Apparently, he had concerns that she was not pulling her weight," Dodenhoff said. "He then said, 'I found a letter she wrote, and it was a letter stating thank you for letting me stay.' He called back again a little later and said, 'We had a fifth of vodka and half of it is gone,' and then he called me back yet again and said, 'We had $30 in change and that is gone.'
"He just kept calling and calling and calling. In the end, there were at least three different stories," Dodenhoff continued. "When I confronted him about that, he started screaming at me, and I screamed at him. I said, 'Look, I am just trying to find my daughter.' He then said, 'If you want to talk to me, you will have to do it through my lawyer -- don't ever call here again.' That was the last time I spoke with him."
Concerned about her daughter's safety, Dodenhoff contacted the Pocomoke City Police Department to file a missing-person report.
"I called Pocomoke police because she was in Pocomoke City when she went missing," Dodenhoff said. "They told me to call the police in Delaware because Christine was from Delaware. So I did, and Delaware police said that since she went missing from down there, I would need to call them. So after getting the runaround from everyone the first day, I was finally put in touch with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation on Nov. 14."
Dodenhoff says a sheriff's deputy went to the Byrd Road farm and spoke with Jackson and Johnson, but nothing relevant was learned during the conversation.
"We still don't know where she is," Detective Robert Trautman of the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said in a November 2007 interview with The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times. "We've expanded our search to Delaware and Virginia."
Trautman also said he did not suspect any foul play in Sheddy's disappearance.
Investigators conducted a search at the Byrd Road farm but came up empty. According to Dodenhoff, police treated her daughter's case as a runaway investigation and ultimately issued a warrant for Sheddy's arrest for child abandonment.
"I was angry with the way the case was being handled, so I took it into my own hands," Dodenhoff said. "I posted fliers and spent a lot of time online trying to track down leads. I made contact with some people who had been at the farm during the time Christine went missing, and they were telling me stuff I was forwarding back to law enforcement. I angered a lot of people, but I didn't care. I wanted answers."
One of the people Dodenhoff reached out to was Mandy Albritton, co-founder of the nonprofit missing-person search and recovery group 3View Search Services.
"I can tell you, after working with Lynn for 10 months, there have been times she has called me and said, 'I am about to do this,' and I go, 'Oh crap,' " Albritton told AOL News. "I tried to tell her, 'Lynn, I think we need to stay calm and quiet on this,' but she would do it anyway. I did not always approve of her tactics, but each time she seemed to uncover another piece of information in the case."
Albritton said she was also concerned with Dodenhoff's unwillingness to accept the reality that she might never find her daughter.
"I was worried about that position she took, because in this business less than 10 percent of missing persons are ever located," Albritton said. "The odds are stacked against you, so I wanted to prepare her for the likelihood that she would not be found, but she just kept telling me, 'I am gonna find her, I will find her.' "
In January 2008, Dodenhoff thought the search for her daughter was over when she learned that human remains had been found in Westminster, Md. The find, however, proved to be a false alarm, when authorities later determined they did not belong to Sheddy.
"It was difficult," Dodenhoff said. "You don't ever want to hope your child is found dead, but at the same time, you are so desperate for answers."
However, the find did prove to be helpful, as shortly thereafter Dodenhoff learned that her daughter's dental records and DNA had not been entered into the National Crime Information Center database. The information was not officially entered until a year later.
In September 2009, Jackson was arrested in Rogersville, Tenn., and charged with aggravated burglary and arson for allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's former house and setting the shower curtain on fire. Fortunately for the homeowner, the fire extinguished itself before spreading. Jackson was held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond.
With Jackson behind bars, Dodenhoff and the police continued to work their own angles in the case.
"You can't put all your faith in the police," Dodenhoff said. "They are gonna do what they are gonna do. You have to keep pushing if you know in your heart that there is not enough being done. You push, you shove, you speak and you talk to anybody that will sit down and listen to you and tell them."
The case took yet another turn earlier this month when, according to a source close to the investigation, police received a tip. Authorities are not yet commenting on what the "tip" was; however, SbyNews.com has reported that it was credible enough for investigators to travel to Tennessee.
"They flew to Tennessee to speak with [Jackson]," an unnamed source told SbyNews.
Upon arriving back in town from that trip, authorities went to a location in Snow Hill, Md., and found human female skeletal remains next to the River House Inn. The location is roughly 10 miles from the Byrd Road farm. Jackson is a former handyman at the inn.
In an interview with WMDT.com, Worcester County Deputy State's Attorney Mike Farlow confirmed that his office had received "information that there were remains at a location in Snow Hill," but he declined to say how authorities got that tip.
The owners of the River House Inn were out of town at the time Sheddy disappeared. Authorities say they were unaware the remains were there and are not considered people of interest.
According to Albritton, the remains were found buried between a couple of cottages at the inn.
"They were in a side yard that backs up to a huge municipal parking lot that the post office is on," Albritton said. "It was a 15-by-15-foot area with sandy soil surrounded by evergreen trees."
Clothing and a shoe were the only known items found with the remains.
Based on authorities' trip to Tennessee and the sudden find thereafter, Dodenhoff and Albritton felt it likely that the remains would be identified as Sheddy's.
Sheddy's 10-year-old daughter, Hailey, was also resigned to the belief that she would not see her mom again. Last week she wrote the following poem for Albritton:

As Sheddy's family agonized over the possibility that she had finally been found, authorities Thursday reportedly arrested Justin Hadel, one of Jackson's guests at the Byrd Road farm when Sheddy was staying there. Hadel was reportedly picked up by police in Tomball County, Texas, on a child obligation and fugitive warrant.
The timing of Hadel's arrest has raised eyebrows; however, authorities will not say if there is any connection to Sheddy's case.
"I don't talk about pending investigations," Worcester County State's Attorney Joel J. Todd told AOL News.
So while a connection to Hadel remains unclear, Sheddy's family did finally receive the news they were hoping for today, when Todd announced that the remains found in Snow Hill had been positively identified as those of Christine Marie Sheddy.
"No cause of death has yet been determined," Todd said. "All involved law enforcement agencies are treating this as a suspicious death."
The news came as a bittersweet relief to Dodenhoff.
"I knew she was no longer with us, I just knew it," Dodenhoff said. "I felt in my heart that Christine had been dead and with Jesus ever since she went missing, because she would never ever leave her children. I kept telling myself it would all come out in God's time. I was right and that time is today."
The investigation into the Sheddy case continues. No suspects or people of interest have been named.

"Christine and I had a fight prior to her trip," Dodenhoff said. "At the time, milk was three dollars and something a gallon, and her youngest son loved milk. He could go through a gallon of milk a day. I mean, this was the dumbest fight on the planet. She was also very stressed out about problems she was having with Levi, so when this milk thing came about, she just exploded and I reacted. She then left with the two boys for Clarence Jackson's Byrd Road farm in Pocomoke City."
Roughly one week after arriving at the farm, Sheddy was ready to return to Bowers Beach. Things were not going well, and an accidental chimney fire that had burned a hole in the roof of the farmhouse only added to her discomfort. As a result, Sheddy was desperate to go home, but she was hesitant to call her mom, because of their argument.
"Christine was a very stubborn and proud girl," Dodenhoff said. "Rather than give in and call me, she reached out to her best friend, Jimmy 'Q' Quail. Following that conversation, Q called me and said, 'Christine wants to come home. Why don't you give her a call?' So I did, and I said, 'Won't you please come home?' She wanted to know why, and I told her, 'You have no heat there. I want you and the boys here.' "
In the end, Sheddy and her mother reached a compromise. She would leave the farm and travel to Philadelphia to stay with her sister, Jennifer.
"Jennifer had already said Christine could stay there," Dodenhoff said. "There are more job opportunities, people, places and things there. From my understanding, Levi was supposed to pick Christine up after work on Nov. 13, but she called Q and made a backup plan because she felt she could not rely on Levi. The last time I spoke with her I told her I loved her and she said the same back."
Unfortunately, something went terribly wrong between Sheddy's Nov. 10 call and Nov. 13, the date she was set to leave the farm.
"On Nov. 13, Jennifer received a phone call from Jackson, saying they had gone to run some errands, and when they got home, Christine was gone and the boys were there alone," Dodenhoff said.
According to Dodenhoff, Jackson told her there were no signs of forced entry. In addition to her two children, Sheddy's belongings were left untouched.
"Jackson called me back later that day and said he had a fight with Christine prior to her disappearance. Apparently, he had concerns that she was not pulling her weight," Dodenhoff said. "He then said, 'I found a letter she wrote, and it was a letter stating thank you for letting me stay.' He called back again a little later and said, 'We had a fifth of vodka and half of it is gone,' and then he called me back yet again and said, 'We had $30 in change and that is gone.'
"He just kept calling and calling and calling. In the end, there were at least three different stories," Dodenhoff continued. "When I confronted him about that, he started screaming at me, and I screamed at him. I said, 'Look, I am just trying to find my daughter.' He then said, 'If you want to talk to me, you will have to do it through my lawyer -- don't ever call here again.' That was the last time I spoke with him."
Concerned about her daughter's safety, Dodenhoff contacted the Pocomoke City Police Department to file a missing-person report.
"I called Pocomoke police because she was in Pocomoke City when she went missing," Dodenhoff said. "They told me to call the police in Delaware because Christine was from Delaware. So I did, and Delaware police said that since she went missing from down there, I would need to call them. So after getting the runaround from everyone the first day, I was finally put in touch with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation on Nov. 14."
Dodenhoff says a sheriff's deputy went to the Byrd Road farm and spoke with Jackson and Johnson, but nothing relevant was learned during the conversation.
"We still don't know where she is," Detective Robert Trautman of the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said in a November 2007 interview with The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times. "We've expanded our search to Delaware and Virginia."
Trautman also said he did not suspect any foul play in Sheddy's disappearance.
Investigators conducted a search at the Byrd Road farm but came up empty. According to Dodenhoff, police treated her daughter's case as a runaway investigation and ultimately issued a warrant for Sheddy's arrest for child abandonment.
"I was angry with the way the case was being handled, so I took it into my own hands," Dodenhoff said. "I posted fliers and spent a lot of time online trying to track down leads. I made contact with some people who had been at the farm during the time Christine went missing, and they were telling me stuff I was forwarding back to law enforcement. I angered a lot of people, but I didn't care. I wanted answers."
One of the people Dodenhoff reached out to was Mandy Albritton, co-founder of the nonprofit missing-person search and recovery group 3View Search Services.
"I can tell you, after working with Lynn for 10 months, there have been times she has called me and said, 'I am about to do this,' and I go, 'Oh crap,' " Albritton told AOL News. "I tried to tell her, 'Lynn, I think we need to stay calm and quiet on this,' but she would do it anyway. I did not always approve of her tactics, but each time she seemed to uncover another piece of information in the case."
Albritton said she was also concerned with Dodenhoff's unwillingness to accept the reality that she might never find her daughter.
"I was worried about that position she took, because in this business less than 10 percent of missing persons are ever located," Albritton said. "The odds are stacked against you, so I wanted to prepare her for the likelihood that she would not be found, but she just kept telling me, 'I am gonna find her, I will find her.' "
In January 2008, Dodenhoff thought the search for her daughter was over when she learned that human remains had been found in Westminster, Md. The find, however, proved to be a false alarm, when authorities later determined they did not belong to Sheddy.
"It was difficult," Dodenhoff said. "You don't ever want to hope your child is found dead, but at the same time, you are so desperate for answers."
However, the find did prove to be helpful, as shortly thereafter Dodenhoff learned that her daughter's dental records and DNA had not been entered into the National Crime Information Center database. The information was not officially entered until a year later.
In September 2009, Jackson was arrested in Rogersville, Tenn., and charged with aggravated burglary and arson for allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's former house and setting the shower curtain on fire. Fortunately for the homeowner, the fire extinguished itself before spreading. Jackson was held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond.
With Jackson behind bars, Dodenhoff and the police continued to work their own angles in the case.
"You can't put all your faith in the police," Dodenhoff said. "They are gonna do what they are gonna do. You have to keep pushing if you know in your heart that there is not enough being done. You push, you shove, you speak and you talk to anybody that will sit down and listen to you and tell them."
The case took yet another turn earlier this month when, according to a source close to the investigation, police received a tip. Authorities are not yet commenting on what the "tip" was; however, SbyNews.com has reported that it was credible enough for investigators to travel to Tennessee.
"They flew to Tennessee to speak with [Jackson]," an unnamed source told SbyNews.
Upon arriving back in town from that trip, authorities went to a location in Snow Hill, Md., and found human female skeletal remains next to the River House Inn. The location is roughly 10 miles from the Byrd Road farm. Jackson is a former handyman at the inn.
In an interview with WMDT.com, Worcester County Deputy State's Attorney Mike Farlow confirmed that his office had received "information that there were remains at a location in Snow Hill," but he declined to say how authorities got that tip.
The owners of the River House Inn were out of town at the time Sheddy disappeared. Authorities say they were unaware the remains were there and are not considered people of interest.
According to Albritton, the remains were found buried between a couple of cottages at the inn.
"They were in a side yard that backs up to a huge municipal parking lot that the post office is on," Albritton said. "It was a 15-by-15-foot area with sandy soil surrounded by evergreen trees."
Clothing and a shoe were the only known items found with the remains.
Based on authorities' trip to Tennessee and the sudden find thereafter, Dodenhoff and Albritton felt it likely that the remains would be identified as Sheddy's.
Sheddy's 10-year-old daughter, Hailey, was also resigned to the belief that she would not see her mom again. Last week she wrote the following poem for Albritton:

As Sheddy's family agonized over the possibility that she had finally been found, authorities Thursday reportedly arrested Justin Hadel, one of Jackson's guests at the Byrd Road farm when Sheddy was staying there. Hadel was reportedly picked up by police in Tomball County, Texas, on a child obligation and fugitive warrant.
The timing of Hadel's arrest has raised eyebrows; however, authorities will not say if there is any connection to Sheddy's case.
"I don't talk about pending investigations," Worcester County State's Attorney Joel J. Todd told AOL News.
So while a connection to Hadel remains unclear, Sheddy's family did finally receive the news they were hoping for today, when Todd announced that the remains found in Snow Hill had been positively identified as those of Christine Marie Sheddy.
"No cause of death has yet been determined," Todd said. "All involved law enforcement agencies are treating this as a suspicious death."
The news came as a bittersweet relief to Dodenhoff.
"I knew she was no longer with us, I just knew it," Dodenhoff said. "I felt in my heart that Christine had been dead and with Jesus ever since she went missing, because she would never ever leave her children. I kept telling myself it would all come out in God's time. I was right and that time is today."
The investigation into the Sheddy case continues. No suspects or people of interest have been named.

Our Words have consequences
It has taken me two days to write this letter regarding the recent events that have transpired in Snow Hill, Maryland. I’ll begin with explaining why I have been involved with this case and why it has given me a great deal of heartache as of lately. We were asked nearly 10 months ago if we could assist in searching for Christine Sheddy. I’ll fully admit from day 1, I honestly didn’t see how our foundation could be of any more benefit or success than the groups of officials and volunteers that had spend countless hours already trying to find the answer. Although along with so many others, we were at least willing to do our best, and simply try. To this point our only involvement with the direct search for Christine has been with a minor amount of studying aerial mapping and imagery from late 2007 and early 2008, along with deriving theories as to where the next search effort could be conducted.
Outside of this minimal involvement, our official capacity has been of no benefit or consequence to the agencies handling the proper investigations. However, for the last 10 months my partner Mandy Albritton and I have stood beside Lynn Dodenhoff, a mother that has put her life on hold because she has had no answers as to what happened to her daughter that November night back in 2007. In working with Lynn throughout the last several months, we have coached her through events as we have felt most appropriate and sometimes stumbling along the way. While we didn’t always agree with her actions and reactions, we continued to try and provide additional support across each road bump that would surface. We listened when she yelled; sympathized when she cried, and tried to understand the pain and frustration she was enduring through her nightmare. I make no proclamation that I could ever truly understand what this mother has endured. I can tell you however after meeting Lynn in person this last weekend, I have never met a mother so dedicated, so strong or so passionate about continuing the fight.
Last weekend, I also had the true honor of meeting Christine’s children. To look into their eyes and listen to their voices, I could not fathom the questions they would have regarding their mother or where she has been for the last two years, three months and 12 days. Every single day, these kids hope and pray that their mother is going to walk through the front door and their nightmare would end. I have 3 children of my own; a 19 year old step daughter, a 9 year old son, and a 5 year old daughter. It’s hard enough for me to explain to my youngest why I had to stay at the office all night and couldn’t be there to tuck her in bed. What I witnessed a few days ago, was a dedicated mother who would never stop fighting for the answers regarding her daughter. In addition I was inspired by how this grandmother was now protecting Christine’s children through all of the unknowns and chaos. Lynn has been so careful with these innocent kids and has tried in every way imaginable to protect and block them from the recent news and speculations around town. She is determined to hold true and not jump to conclusions until official word comes.
Every newspaper, every blog and every conversation around the community is consumed with the question. Is this Christine? Most of you feel it may be, while some of you actually state it as fact, even before there has been any medical declaration stating so. Let me give you very clear facts right now. I want you to understand and fully comprehend what I am about to write and take it to heart. Because of speculation, media sensationalism, blogger indiscrimination, leaks within the investigation and a rush to blast information, just over 48 hours ago, a ten year old girl read online that the skeletal remains of her mother had in fact been found and would never be walking through that front door again. I’ll state it again. Christine’s ten year old daughter has read online that her mother is in fact dead. Over 2 years ago three children were robbed of the chance to spend another night with their mother. Two days ago, Lynn was robbed of the chance to explain to her grand daughter on her own terms that this may be Christine. Through the advice of law enforcement and to protect her grandchildren, Lynn was trying so hard to keep the children from the news. She has been waiting in seclusion for official word since the news broke as to the identification of the body. She wanted 100% confirmation before she would have to explain anything to the kids. Unfortunately with Lynn only dropping guard for a few minutes, Christine’s daughter just over 48 hours ago, did get onto a computer and read information that was stated as fact, even though the true results have not yet been determined.
I have listened to some of you preach about your personal journalistic integrity or rights to deliver the news, and I have watched as others hide behind anonymous posts or made up names and locations. I have witnessed people patting themselves on the back for solving this or crediting others that have done little more than spread gossip. While it is apparent to everyone that the blogs and media outlets covering Christine’s case each display their own views regarding the events, circumstances and the investigation as well as opinions regarding the other blog owners. The simple fact remains that only one person has pushed hard enough for long enough and has never waivered in her quest for answers. Rest assured if you are stating something as fact prior to official confirmation or if you are hindering this investigation by reporting information detrimental to the case, your words will have consequences. If you are in official capacity and leaking information to the media pertinent to this investigation, then there can be a completely separate level of action and judgment. Even fake names or anonymous posts can be tracked by an ISP address through official subpoena.
I am pleading with you in the news, and with each of you blog owners along with those posting comments within these blogs on Face book, MySpace or any other social media. Please consider what you are writing before you submit. Yes, it is your first amendment right as a journalist to report on the news. And yes, It is each citizen’s right to have an independent voice stating personal beliefs. But the moral rights of this family and the children of Christine Sheddy should be given proper consideration before you ever comment on this case. Your words do have consequences and the results can cut deep into the heart of a child.

Seatbelt/Cellphone Bills Remain Unchanged
Virginia drivers will continue to have the liberty to talk on cell phones and not wear seat belts while driving.A House subcommittee Thursday killed bills that would have banned talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving and made not wearing a seat belt a primary offense. Currently, police can only issue citations for not wearing a seat belt if the driver is pulled over for another reason.
It also killed a bill to make talking on a cell phone while driving with a provisional license a primary offense.
The subcommittee voted in favor of a bill that would require anyone under the age of 18 to wear a seat belt in the rear seat of a vehicle. Currently, only those under 16 must wear seat belts in the rear seats.

Summer And the Beach
Last Sunday my husband and I took a ride to Assateague on the Virginia side. To most of you that have live in the surrounding areas all of your lives you know that the beach is very much a huge part of your summer life.
What I saw on the beach that day simply broke my heart. I have walked that beach so many times in my life I once felt I new every pebble by name. Many of you will agree. Please take a moment to see what it looked liked on February 21, 2010.
Unless you own a camel and that camel can walk a great distance don't plan on any parking. The parking lots are gone. The circle that once gave us the option for "north end" or "south end" is gone. The ocean has moved in and though the Yield sign still stands there is no reason to.
This electric wire cables were probably connected to the electric poles that once ran along the paved road and now sit almost at the waters edge. The gas line is in the water and I am sure upon hide tide the copper tubing cannot be seen.
We all thought at the time Assateague would always be there. And it has been. I toted both of my children as toddlers to the beach. As they grew they knew on my days off from work we would be going to the beach. When they became older so did their friends and I ended taking all the kids to Assateague. Then in their teens the ideas of beach parties came along. And because they loved the beach as I do we had one beach party to start the summer and one to end it. Thank goodness by this time all of them could drive.
Oh, I have seen the changes. But the one thing that put an end to the enjoyment of the sand, sun and ocean was the sudden popularity of the beach. None of us could ever get used to the feeling of strangers being so close on the beach. When you're used to having all that sand for yourself for all those years and suddenly can't seem to stretch out and relax it's no fun. Tourism had hit the beach! By this time my kids were grown and could go alone and sit in line behind them and fight over a spot in the sand. I wasn't. But I have.
I've left lots of memories on that beach. I've cried alot of tears, had alot of kisses from old boyfriends and chatted many many hours with friends. I've made sand castles, dug holes, dug for sand crabs, picked up shells and jumped the breakers with my kids. I've explained sea nettles and porpoises and fish and crabs to the tourists. I've seen some of the most beautiful kites snap and fly into the ocean. And I wondered if
we were supposed to return the sand our kids took home in their bathing suits. I've seen beautiful sunsets and, yes, sunrises.
And through the years I learned that the ocean was NOT the best place to be during a thunderstorm. But I never once came home with a bad sunburn. And I learned at a young age what undertow is without almost drowing simply by watching others.
I have no idea what lies ahead for my dear friend Assateague. I can tell you that there were pieces of heavy equipment there and as you can see in the photos they have been working to restore some dunes. Other than that time will tell and I guess it just depends how many more nor'easters we have this season. After all we don't
own the ocean and we sure can't tame it.
But there is one very good thing to report about the day. The Chicoteague ponies were out strolling. Now that's a peaceful thought.

sand with the radio on, baby oil and iodine, swapping stories with my best friends, and napping. Those were the days when
we all thought the sun was our best friend and a good beach day was from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.
No need to take a cooler with food. There was a resturant right there on the beach! Yep. The resturant even had a gift shop.
No need to worry about tourist too much. And can you acutally believe that once you parked
your car in the morning you could leave for lunch on Chicoteague and go back to beach and park in the
original parking spot! You sure could.
