Pictured is an early store operated by Sam Walton in Bentonville, Arkansas. He previously operated a chain of Ben Franklin 5 & 10's. His first Wal-Mart store, called Wal-Mart Discount City, opened in Rogers City, Arkansas in July, 1962.

Time Machine Preview

This Sunday here at The Pocomoke Public Eye..

1959..  A Salisbury history professor writes of a long and glorious history of the Academy that later became Washington High School in Princess Anne.

1940..  (Ad) A Pocomoke City bank says why pay rent when you can own your own home.. total price is $1,000 and $250 cash will make it yours.

1893..  "Every one was mean and hungry, and seemed to want a square meal...".  Lower Eastern Shore mosquitoes are what's bugging the writer.

1950..  Wal-Mart would come later but Sam Walton's 5 & 10 store (picture) was a building block pointing the way.

1937..  Monthly old age pensions in Worcester County are averaging $13.25 per person.

1946..  "Teen Town" is a new club providing activities for Pocomoke City's youth.

1887..  Scott's Ocean House hotel on the Worcester County coast offers accommodations for 250 guests at $7 a week.
