$50,000 Pocomoke City lottery winner-

 (delmarvanow.com)

A Pocomoke City woman scanned her instant scratch-off ticket Monday at a store to make sure her $50,000 winnings weren't an April Fool's joke.

Fast-food worker Jukira Cordell, 21, won the money playing the Maryland Lottery's fairly new Power Cash scratch-off game, according to a Lottery announcement.

Cordell bought several Power Cash tickets and told Lottery officials her "hand started to itch" as she got a good feeling before scratching the last ticket.

She found an "autowin" symbol and won the $50,000, which is the top prize for the game.

Cordell credits her lucky 2011 penny, which she uses to play scratch-off tickets, according to the Lottery news release.

She plans to put her winnings in the bank.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Sunoco Duck In at 607 Lynnhaven Drive in Pocomoke City.

Because it was a top-prize ticket, the store will get a $500 bonus.

Worcester's Teacher Of The Year named.

Kudos on editorial, but--

If you're over 40 you might hardily agree with this week's editorial piece in The Eastern Shore Post titled: "Language of locker rooms, language of leadership."  But some under 40 might be thinking 'I don't get it, what's the concern?'

In any event today's reality, in general, is that the toothpaste is out of the tube and it can't go back.

For safety- Accomack public schools will dismiss early on partial-eclipse date, April 8.

(Shore Daily News)

At Tuesday’s (3/26) meeting of the Accomack County School Board, April 17, originally scheduled as a half day, was switched to April 8 due to the total eclipse which will be visible in the Eastern United States.

Superintendent Rhonda Hall said she proposed the change out of concern that students would be getting out of school at the time of the eclipse which could be a safety issue.  She is concerned that the kids would look up at the sun.  Middle Schools and High Schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on April 8 with elementary schools getting out at 12:30.

The eclipse on the East Coast will be partial with a swath of total eclipse across the mid-west.
