The Eastern Shore is paralyzed this morning following the snowstorm that dropped as much as 9.5 inches of snow yesterday. The snow was originally predicted to have amounted to about 4 inches started falling early Saturday morning and before it ended early this morning, roads were blocked and events cancelled all over the area.
VDOT crews are manning the snow plows but attempting to keep Rt. 13 clear is a daunting task. As far as the back roads are concerned, many are impassable and you are urged not to attempt to drive on them unless absolutely necessary. Adding to the problems are the winds, predicted to be as high as 20 mph today which will cause drifting in many open areas and will keep the road crews busy.
Throughout the Eastern Shore, churches have cancelled services and it is fairly safe to assume your church will not have services today.
This is the worst snow storm in over 20 years. State spending cuts have resulted in VDOT being only able early on to try to keep RT. 13 and perhaps the roads leading to the towns. It will take warmer weather to get the snow and ice off the back roads and thats not expected until mid week.
