Prostock First Place Winner 2010 At Gumboro

The season of mud racing at the Gumboro Mudbog has now come to an end. Hopefully, within a few days all the points will be added and we will know who all the winners are in all classes that have raced throughout the season.

Points are very important to the drivers of these trucks because caring for one can be quite overwhelming at times and at the end of the year one really needs to know where one stands for the season.

It kind of helps a driver put into perspective all of the hard work, time and expense he or she has put into the machine throughout the year. It doesn't matter if you win or lose...... the time and frustration seems worth it.

For the drivers of the 187 East Performance team no one has to tell them and they don't need to know the numbers to know who the 1st place winner is in Prostock this year.

The first place honor goes to Patrick Long and his truck "All Night Soldier" of the 187 East Performance team.

Here's the video of Patrick's last run for the season this past Saturday.

A very well deserved and well earned win!
Congratulations Patrick!!

More on the Gumboro Mudbog soon...........

More From Gumboro ~ The Sod Buster

Each and every mudbog at Gumboro brings new trucks to area for the fun of racing through the 200 feet of mud. And each and every time the same trucks reappear with the hopes of keeping their points already acheived and gaining more plus getting their thrill for racing. It's also a time for joining friends made at races before and make new ones.

It should always be remembered that the trucks you see on mudbog day were put together with a great deal of expense and time and care. They all want to win.

Some will drive a great distance to Gumboro.....hours. For those of 187 East Peformance it is a 1 1/2 hour drive. Most of us stop for breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evenings before venturing home. It is not an expense free day.
Without these trucks and without these fearless drivers Gumboro would NOT be what it has become. Each and every truck that enters the pit has paid their fair share, just like everyone else, to participate. And it is always a sigh of relief for me knowing that we arrived safely and the rest of the 187 East Peformance would arrive shortly.

Saturday after the mishap of Orange Crush the spectators witnessed another hair raising moment with Sod Buster.

Flips and roll overs and fires may be excitement for the crowd but I can assure you that it most definitely is NOT for those in the pits! The family is there too....not to forget the extended family of the 187 East Performance.

This incident is unsettling with me. I did not like what I saw in the few seconds after this truck caught fire.

Here's the video followed by some photos.

The first one to arrive to the side of the truck was this driver's son! Within seconds other drivers had jumped the fence INCLUDING the driver's WIFE, daughter and daughter's boyfriend followed by my husband and even more.

Then appearing on the scene even seconds later was the staff arriving in their golf cart looking like the Keystone Kops! That's right. I said Keystone Kops! They do a remarkable job measuring distances driven by the trucks in the pit but when it comes to an emergency situation they stink!

Everyone was screaming to remove the driver. Others were screaming for fire extinquishers. They yelled and yelled while this driver's family and friends scrambled to unhook the extinguishers they had................The "staff" had come unprepared! No one on that cart had a fire extinguisher in hand!

And at the same time all of this was happening the daughter of the driver was running towards the pits screaming for a screw driver. I can't imagine that cart not even being equiped with a few tools..... common sense should tell them that a screwdriver and hammer could always come in handy.
And the other racers and racers families even helped clean up. All that was left to be done was to tow the Sod Buster. The driver was not hurt..........but as in any mishap HE COULD HAVE BEEN!

What is it going to take before an ambulance is present at these races? What's it going to take before fire extinguishers are placed ALONG THE FENCE NEAR THE PITS so your summer tanned pretty boys can fight a flame or a flicker in a truck if they know how to!?

Each and every driver is required to have an extinguisher on board his or her truck. THEY can't always get to it in an emergency situation and neither can the first person to the scene.

This isn't the first time this has occured. We witnessed a similar situation on August 28th.

These drivers spend alot money for and on Gumboro. Not because they have to........they want to. They love the sport. Each mudbog these men and women put on one heck of a show for the spectators in hopes that the crowd will spread the word and return the next time and time after that.

So, in appreciation for what these men and women do and for the revenue THEY bring to the Gumboro Mudbog organization don't they deserve to have that extra reassurance? Surely, by now they have made enough money for the Gumboro Mudbog to affored it.

They deserve it and it should NOT be put upon the people in the pits to take care of these situations...........even though they will and with a reaction time so much faster.

Let's not wait for a true horrible disaster to happen...........it can. By then it will be too late.

A little bit of money spent for SAFETY purposes will go a long way.

Charity Event At Gumboro Mud Bog

There was hardly any room left to park Saturday afternoon at the Gumboro Mud Bog Charity Event for the Wounded Soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. Word is that over 2,000 fans were on hand for a day of watching trucks in the various classes make the attempt to get through 200 feet of mud in the least amount of time.

Mudbogging is a very competitive sport at times but Saturday wasn't just about competition. It was about showing the 65 or more guests from Walter Reed Hospital just how enjoyable the sport can be. And afterall, the day was about them and for them.
The wounded warriors, some with family, rolled in by bus with a police escort.

Weather on Delmarva doesn't get any better than what we had Saturday and I know everyone had to notice the clear blue skies, low humidity and wonderful breeze. It was so wonderful to see the grandstands full of fans and fans lined against the fence. The charity race always give the winner in each racing class double points and I am not aware (yet) of any records being broken in speed but I can report to all of you that during the Charity Event For the Wounded Soldiers At Walter Reed Hospital the Gumboro Mud Bog in just FIVE hours of racing in the mud raised FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!

It was an honor for all of those in racing competition on Saturday to be able to entertain America's hero's for a few hours. Each and every one of them had a marvelous day and will be talking about their trip to the Eastern Shore for a very long time.

So to all of you out there that wrinkle your nose at mud racing remember this..... LOOK WHAT MUD CAN DO!!Thankyou to all those men and women serving in the military, recovering in hospitals, retired and to your families for all you have done and continue to do for all of us so that we may remain free. God bless all of you.

GUMBORO MUDBOG WELCOMES OUR SOLDIERS

Charity Event For the Soldiers At Walter Reed Hospital!
Come out and show your support for our wounded warriors. The August 28th Charity Event is for the soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital!
This Saturday roughly 65 soldiers and some family members from the Walter Reed Hospital will roll onto Delmarva and attend the Gumboro Mudbog!

These courageous men and women are the same men and women that risked life and limb so that we remain free today!

And these are the brave men and women that gave their time and dedication to us and to this great country that we all share. It is safe to say that without them, without their sacrifices, without their loyalty and devotion to ALL of us and America, even small events like the races we plan to attend would not be the same.
Make plans Delmarva, to be at the Gumboro Mudbog on Saturday to show these wonderful heroes just how much we appreciate what they have all done. Let's show these fine, devoted people how Delmarva celebrates HEROES!

LET'S GIVE THEM A HEROES WELCOME AND MAKE THEM PROUD OF US! And let's make this the biggest charity Gumboro Mudbog has ever had!

Tractor Pulling And Mud Hop At Melson

Another wonderful crowd at Melson Tractor Pull/Mud Hop Saturday night (August 14)along with some great competition in both groups of racing.

Tractor Pulling If you have never seen tractor pulling before this probably looks like one boring and unexciting sport, but I guarantee that most times this can get quite hair raising and the winner of the event will sometimes surprise you! If you own a tractor and think you can pull a large amount of weight with it, or if you just want to give it a try, bring it to the next event! New entries are always welcomed.......... (I find it amusing when the old clunker looking tractors sometimes suddenly break loose and race down the track making the nicely groomed John Deere tractors look like wimps!)

Mud Hop Another popular event on Saturday nights is the Mud Hop! These trucks will make your heart stop as they move across the top of the hill and down the other side into and through the mud!!!
Speed plays a big part in this competition............... .....because this is what you find at the bottom of the other side of the hill. MUD! Keep in mind that after a rainy week this hole is sometimes covered with water and the driver must get through this with speed and not get stuck!

Think you have a truck that can do this?

By all means please make plans to try it out at the next event. For rules and more info go to http://www.melsontractorpull.webs.com/

Now.......watch what happens!!!

Think you can do it??

Next events are scheduled for September 10th and 11th!
Registration begins at 5:00 PM Races start at 7:00 PM

There's plenty of refreshments.

Bring your own chair and sit back and let these fearless guys entertain you.

We'll see you there..............

Lets Get Down and Dirty, Doing it in the mud.

Mud and sled trucks are coming back!
It was once a very big event here on the shore with boggs in just about every city and town. It's coming back and each year seams to bring more and more trucks to the slippery slopes.

To a motor-head about the only thing better than hearing a finely tuned engine and smelling cam-2 is smelling Alcohol, add mud and it's on.

Below is a video of the big boys toys get'n down and dirty in some good ol' easternshore sticky stuff.

The blue Chevy in the video that seems to just skip across the mud and is owned by a local; Barry Wise. There's no doubt if you've ever been out playing in the mud you will know ..that Chevy is 'hooked-up'
