Radar Detectors In Virginia

The Virginia Legislature has defeated a bill to legalize radar detectors. Lawmakers admitted repealing this law is a bad idea because it would lead to fewer tickets and thus less revenue for the Commonwealth.

"It is tough to acknowledge that traffic violations are what funds part of our localities budgets," said Delegate Jackson Miller(R-50th).

Virginia is the only state that bans the use of common radar detectors according to, a website supporting the overturn of radar detector laws. The website is run by the National Association of Motorists. According to the site radar detectors do not have a negative effect on safety, banning detectors is an attack on individual liberty and using radar detectors protects citizens from unfair police tactics.
