More Photos From the Back To School Event & A HUGE Thank You To Angel

Back To School Event
Hosted by the
Pocomoke City Police Department

Mrs. Cane stopped by with some very sweet young folks who seems a little shy but were all smiles for the camera.  All the children and parents who stopped by on Sunday were very appreciative...not too many students seemed excited to be going back to school so soon.

Angel Thornes/Pocomoke City Police Dept.
Police Dept. Open House Ceremonies
June 22, 2012
Another wonderfully planned and successful event for the community with many thanks given to Angel Thornes, who wears the title Executive Administrative Assistant for the Pocomoke City Police Department.
I'm going to bypass all the other "powers that be" for the moment and give "some love" to this dedicated person whose job at times could be for many, overwhelming.

For the past few years Angel has handled the police department community events that have taken place in Pocomoke doing a remarkable job every single time! This year, however, her duties included the moving the police department into their new building and organizing the nice Ribbon Cutting Ceremony/Open House held in June.

Some days you could find her in a closet organizing everything she could find to make the move to the new building run smoothly.......and planning ahead for the Open House yet still taking care of her normal everyday responsibilities. Keep in mind that while all this was taking place Angel was making plans for the annual National Night Out AND the Back To School event that took place on Sunday.

She was responsible for ordering the furniture that is now in place in the offices at the new police department. She has limitied funds to use, spent the money wisely and made some beautiful selections. But along with buying new furniture comes the disappointment of it sometimes being damaged in shipment. I happened to be in the new building that day in May when a desk was damaged and several men were struggling to move it. There was no air conditioning in the building at the time yet, as hot as it was in there and as disappointed as Angel was she carried on with a smile, got the job done, managed to proudly show me around. On the day of Open House the police department was in order and beautifully furnished.

And this is just a little of what she does.

I'm sure some of you are saying to yourselves that this is what she is paid to do. Probably so. But she doesn't have to pour her heart into these things like she does. I've seen her in action! And the one thing she is proud of is the support that comes from the local businesses and citizens. In her words the support is "phenomenal". ...and she's right!

Yet while managing all of these back to back events Angel remains focused, determined and dedicated to her job serving the community of Pocomoke City and those she works with.

And last but not least Angel makes a very serious effort to keep me informed so I can keep all of you informed.

So, many thanks Angel for all you do and continue to dofor the citizens of the community and surrounding areas and for me.

From Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell - SCAM ALERT

Scam Alert Press Release

Chief Kelvin Sewell of the Pocomke City Police Department is warning residents about a telephone scam in which callers try to obtain credit card information by telling people they are wanted for arrest or a family member has been arrested and needs bail money.

Police said Thursday they have received complaints about the calls, which come in displaying blocked numbers on caller ID.

The caller tells the resident there is a warrant for his/her arrest or their family member has been arrested and instructs them to pay a certain amount of money by credit card or bank accounty information to avoid arrest or for their family member to be released.

Police advise anyone receiving such a call not to respond to the request but contact local authorities and report the incident along with the phone number supplied by the caller.

Chief Sewell advises citizens to never give your personal information such as social security number, bank information, credit card information etc. over the phone to a suspicious caller

Recent Thefts From Vehicles in Pocomoke City

Due to a number of thefts from vehicles recently Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell would like to remind the citizens of Pocomoke to be sure your vehicle windows are up and locked when the vehicle is not in use. Remove all money- even small amounts of change- from areas such as cup holder or ashtray. LOCK purses, electronic devices and other valuables in the trunk.

If you should discover that your vehicle has been broken into or items have been taken call the police department before you make the attempt to get inside your car. Sometimes thieves leave a pattern or clues that can be easily noticed by an officer that could possibly lead an arrest of the person(s) responsible for these crimes.

National Night Out In Pocomoke City 2012

Pocomoke City's NATIONAL NIGHT OUT  2012
Hosted by the Pocomoke City Police Department

The kids loved this!  But then kids have the energy.  The older I become the more amazed I am with the things children can and will do.  Note:  to enter this house of a thousand bounces you have to crawl through a small door, or so it seemed.  Once inside you just bounce up and down, fall down, get up,  fall down again and continue that same routine for what seemed to me forever.  The amazing part, to me,  is when you have completed all the bouncing you crawl out the small door, get to your feet and continue onto something else.  Amazing!

What an honor it was to have Sen. Jim Mathias (left to right), MD State Police Commander of the Berlin Barracks- Lt. Earl Starner and Worcester County State's Attorney Beau Oglesby  attending the National Night Out in Pocomoke.

Also attending: Investigator for the Wor. Co. State's Attorney  Office- Rick Taylor and Special Investigator fof the Wor. Co. State's Attorney Office.

These 3 were having a great time but didn't stick around longe enough to give me their names.

National Night Out events have proven to be effective all across America.

Each National Night Out is an inexpensive and enjoyable  evening to promote neighborhood spirit and  police/community partnerships.  The outcome is to create a safer and more productive neighborhood, not just in one community but all across the nation.

Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell has certainly kept his word when he wrote in   his Mission Statement "to provide the highest quality of police service" and to "develop a partnership with the community". What he has done in just a few short months with his department and for the great town of Pocomoke City is outstanding.

Be sure to thank them.

Pocomoke City "National Night Out" 2012

Pocomoke City Police Chief Kelvin Sewell and the Pocomoke City Police Department did an excellant job  in hosting the National Night Out in Pocomoke last night.  I'm sure lots of the planning was left up to Angel and some others and they did a marvelous job!  A big thank you to all of you from me.  Great job!!

Pocomoke City certainly has had lots of great things happening in the past few months.  Most of  accomplishments  had been on the drawing board for quite awhile.  New restaurants, ribbon cutting ceremonies, a block party, a new station for the Pocomoke City Police Department, a new Pocomoke City Police Chief....the list goes on.  However, as excited as we all are when these things come around there is always a part in some (including myself)  that think of those that have passed this lifetime and wish so much they were here to enjoy what would have made them so proud also.

Councilman Honis Cane, Mayor Curt Lippoldt and Councilman Bob Hawkins....  They would be excited.  Most of all they would be proud.

The late Councilman Bob Hawkins in a photograph with Retired Pocomoke City Police Chief J.D. Ervin.

Mayor Bruce Morrison with Pocomoke City Chief Kelvin Sewell
Thanks for everything Mr. Mayor and Chief!
Laura and Mayor Morrison
Chief Sewell and Laura.  By the way, that's my husband in the background.  Bless his heart.  I drug him right from work to Cypress Park.  I appreciate the fact that he understands how important it is for me to be in Pocomoke and how much I love these people.....(they let me take their pictures)  Besides, my husband keeps upgrading my cameras so it's partly "his fault".

The first person to greet me at the park yesterday evening was someone I have known forever and had not seen for many years.  That's Oscar Townsend on the left with Councilman Don Malloy, Chief Sewell, and Councilman Rob Clarke.
Most of us were thinking hot dogs for dinner but hamburgers and french fries were served.  These guys did some fast grilling and lots of it.  Thanks to all of you.  It was great!

OC 104 kept the music going....and going....

Pocomoke Karate showed all of us what they could do.  The young people are amazing!  The discipline they have is just amazing...even for the tiny ones.

Not a very nice photo of the small dog.  He was standing in line and seemed to actually have a smile on his tiny face.

I believe this is Pocomoke City Police Lt. Green speaking with a couple of gentlemen who stopped by for National Night Out.

There's more............
