Accomack County Man Found Guilty
Written by

ACCOMAC — An Accomack County man was found guilty of malicious maiming and a firearms charge after shooting an acquaintance five times in a 2 a.m. dispute over marijuana.
Anthony Wise, 24, of Melfa will be sentenced after a background report is completed. He claimed self-defense in the shooting.
“The defendant fired five times,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Gary Agar. “No other gun was produced.
There is no evidence of self defense.”
The victim, Sedric Dennis, said he was a front seat passenger in a car with two other men. The men were parked in a driveway facing the road in Rolling Acres, near Parksley.
“We were all drinking moonshine from a jug,” Dennis said.
He testified that he had an altercation with Wise earlier in the day while they were together celebrating a birthday. Dennis said Wise accused him of taking marijuana that belonged to him.
Dennis said he denied taking it. Wise seemed to accept that and said no more about it, until later.
“He (Wise) drove into Rolling Acres and got out and walked over to our vehicle,” Dennis said. Wise walked to the driver’s side and kept asking him for the missing marijuana.
Then Wise pulled out his gun pointed it in the window and shot Dennis five times.
“I was hollering,” he said. “I exited the vehicle and tried to run, but I fell because my legs gave out.”
He said Wise ran over to him and said “I might as well finish you off.”
Dennis said Wise pulled the trigger, “but it didn’t go off.”
He said the shooter got into his car and left and he asked the other men to call an ambulance, which they did.
He said he told them instead to take him to Royal Farms.
They met the ambulance there and he was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. From there, Dennis said, he was flown by Nightingale Air Ambulance to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
Accomack County Investigator Earl Drummond read aloud a statement from Anthony Wise, who said Dennis, the victim, brought out a big, black handgun.
“I thought it was him or me,” he told Drummond. “I was scared. I Ann’s never shot nobody.”
“It was a self-defense issue,” defense attorney Thomas Northam told the court.
“He approached the vehicle and had a pistol,” said Lewis in finding him guilty.

Fingerprint Requirement Changes
CHANGE IN FINGERPRINT SERVICES FOR BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS
Effective March 19, 2012, Maryland State Police barracks that have previously provided fingerprinting services to citizens will be unable to do so, at least temporarily. The FBI will no longer accept paper fingerprint cards. All fingerprints submitted to the FBI will need to be taken electronically.
Persons needing fingerprints can visit the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services website at http://www.dpscs.maryland.gov/ and click on the “fingerprinting services” link beneath the “quick links” column. A list of electronic fingerprinting sites is located there.
Maryland State Police barracks are in the process of converting to electronic fingerprinting. That process will not be completed however, for at least several months.

Solar Power ?
The sun, they say, erupted into a solar explosion on Tuesday and those of us on Earth should have felt the effects during daylight hours on Thursday. Scientists predicted that it could possibly disrupt technology....GPS services, satellite networks, etc.
The solar storm ended not being as massive as scientists had stated or possibly had hoped for.
But the solar blast did, however, have an effect of the simple tools in our society.
Namely: The BROOM
For those that are doubtful, I can assure that neither broom is leaning against anything nor holding up a ceiling. Photos were taken in an office and a home - miles apart.
TIME MACHINE ... Down On The Farm!
February, 1886
(Iowa State Reporter- Waterloo, Iowa)
A GOOSE FARM- There is a goose ranch on the eastern shore of Virginia, covering nearly 3,000 acres, over which the feathered occupants, nearly 5,000, are free to roam. The farm is devoted exclusively to producing the raw materials needed for the fine down quilts. Several species of geese are bred, all of them being however of American lineage. The largest specimen of all is of snowy whiteness. The birds are regularly fed with corn or other grains, and are given the utmost freedom consistent with the prevention of straying and loss. Herders are employed to keep a watchful eye on them, and sheds for shelter are provided in case of inclement weather, but the birds very rarely use them.
About every six weeks the plucking takes place. Only the breast and portions of the sides are touched, and feathers of the back, the wings and the tail being left intact. It requires nearly 190 average geese to furnish a pound of the down, though the smaller feathers, which are also taken, weigh much heavier. These feathers, however, form an entirely separate grade from the valuable down.
The average life of a goose is said to be forty years, and they produce from five to ten eggs per annum, a large portion of which are hatched. A bird hatched in February is in condition for plucking the following August, and so on thereafter every six or eight weeks. The feathers are packed in sacks , and sent to the Philadelphia factory, where they are trimmed, washed, steamed and otherwise prepared for their legitimate use.

A Wild Goose Farm
What is said to be the only wild goose farm in the world is located on Chincoteague Island, says the Richmond (Va.) Times. The farm is a never ceasing object of interest to the visitor and of joy and profit to the owner. There are now between 300 and 400 in the flock. The progenitors of this remarkable flock were two which were "winged" in shooting, then tamed and used as decoys. The annual shipments from the farm are now about 400 to 600 fowl. Most of these are wild geese, but there are some Japanese ducks, brant and other game. The geese bring about $5 a pair. In summer they feed on the marshes of Chincoteague and Assateague, but as the cold weather comes on they gradually gather together near the owners residence, where food is provided for them. Mingled with the geese are many kinds of bird and fowl and fancy breeds of chickens and ducks and even some swans. Particular care is being taken with the swans, and the experiment of their culture bids fair to be a success in every way.

July, 1931
(The Morning Herald- Hagerstown, Md)
The Pocomoke Ram Show and Sale was held Saturday at Pocomoke, Md., and thirty pure bred Hampshire, Shropshire and Dorset rams sold for an average of about $13 per head. The event was well attended by nearly 200 farmers and sheep men.
R.P. Grant of Snow Hill expressed expressed satisfaction at the wide distribution of sheep. "The demand was very slack and the prices ranged extremely low considering the quality of the rams offered," stated K.A. Clark, manager of the show and sale. This show and sale was one of five projects being held in different sections of the State during the summer.
